Many here won't celebrate it until the 17th of March, so I cannot really comment there - unless I'm missing something.

In 2008 the Roman Catholic Church celebrated the holiday on March 15 to avoid a conflict with Holy Week. Maybe he is just having a flashback? :D

Quote:

Two Irishmen, Patrick Murphy and Shawn O'Brian grew up together and were lifelong friends. But alas, Patrick developed cancer, and was dying. While on his deathbed, Patrick called to his buddy, Shawn, "O'Brian, come 'ere. I 'ave a request for ye." Shawn walked to his friend's bedside and kneels.

"Shawny ole boy, we've been friends all our lives, and now I'm leaving 'ere. I 'ave one last request fir ye to do."

O'Brian burst into tears, "Anything Patrick, anything ye wish. It's done."

"Well, under me bed is a box containing a bottle of the finest whiskey in all of Ireland. Bottled the year I was born it was. After I die, and they plant me in the ground, I want you to pour that fine whiskey over me grave so it might soak into me bones and I'll be able to enjoy it for all eternity."

O'Brian was overcome by the beauty and in the true Irish spirit of his friend's request, he asked, "Aye, tis a fine thing you ask of me, and I will pour the whiskey. But, might I strain it through me kidneys first?"
and the final one from me for today :D

An Irishman and an American were sitting in the bar at Shannon Airport.

"I've come to meet my brother," said the Irishman. "He's due to fly in from
America in an hour's time. It's his first trip home in forty years".

"Will you be able to recognize him?" asked the American.

"I'm sure I won't," said the Irishman, "after all, he's been away for a long time".

"I wonder if he'll recognize you?" said the American.

"Of course he will," said the Irishman. "Sure, an' I haven't been away at all".

We could always celebrate St Pancake day. Making pancakes, tossing them on our loved ones faces and watch them running around screaming with pancake and syrup on their faces.

hmmmm Pancakes.

The only reason I'll know it's St Patricks day is when google change their google images each year (day of celebration).

What annoys me more than the British celebrating this day like idiots, is the Americans. What is up with dyeing the river in Chicago green. Surely that's not environmentally friendly even if you do use a natural colouring. Idiots.

Nevertheless, I'm too busy to celebrate it this year :(

Shelley_c 03-15-2009 09:11 PM

LOL

Don't you hold back Dean.

Dean C 03-16-2009 12:28 AM

C'mon just look at it. Frickin' ridiculous:

They should be ashamed. Think of all the fishes dying because of that. No pun intended.

I was going to say something similiar. The rivers and ponds around where I am are that colour especially in the winter months. That said, It is americans so anything is possible. Anything.

I'm wondering if patrick from patricks pantry was there for the celebrations. Remember? the anglian news with his 10 minute stint of cookery fame on how to cook sausages. :D

Now where's me pot of gold. :erm:

Too true, I only got the remote of the TV when i was 18, By then it was too late, the damage was done.

I guess if we, were lucky enough to meet, we'd end up doing that crazy eye brow thing those kids do for that cadbury's ad, God knows what sane people would think :D:D

Please show me a river that is that colour. I have never seen such a thing. Ponds yes, lakes yes, but flowing freshwater won't have an algae build-up that would cause it to turn that colour naturally. Alas, that picture is from wikipedia, and wikipedia is never wrong :)

Shelley_c 03-16-2009 08:59 PM

Actually, Rivers can gain a build up of algae. Not all rivers are in constant flow and the river 2 miles away from me (river weldon) has build up of green coloured scum. It does happen especially when the river (long stretches of it) are built up or obstructed.

I'm sure if rivers can run red they can run green which they do. Probably not as bad as that picture but true noneoftheless. Ask patrick, he'll confirm this and probably cook you some sausages. A better service than wiki will ever provide. :)
