ragtek Botscout Register Check
This add-on will compare the new users on registration with the data from botscout (botscout is a big botdatabase)
So if the user is a bot, he'll get an errormessage instead of being registered How it's working: The Ip and mailadress of the user who tries to register there will be send to botscout now botscout sends an answer and you will know whetere if its a bot or not the provider allows 20 requests per day For more you have to organize a API key which you can get at www.botscout.com/getkey in the VB Settings by the Userregistry options you have to enter the key(if you have one) The second function against bots is the timecheck. This modification is checking the timedifferenz between the call of the registerform and the submiting. If it is sent to fast, you can be sure that it's a bot. In the dontuploadfolder you'll find the english language file. You'll find the seetings in the acp -> vBulletin Options ->User Registration Options German Info: http://ragtek.org/blog/vbulletin/rag...egister-check/ History: 1.0.0 Added registrationtime check Added registrationsupport if botscout is down |
Looks good, I've installed without any problems. I already use recaptcha, so bots weren't really a problem, but you can never be too safe.
|
If its working its outstanding.

Hi
Have been looking to code something like this for a while, so many thanks for doing the hard work for me. Seems to have installed ok, just waiting the api key to come to me. One question, in ACP>User reg option, I see only one option related to this, for the API key Is this right, in other words, no other options to config, such as turning on or off etc. Also, roll on the submission parts, its about time us forum owners were able to fight back a little. Many thanks tony |
Yes, there are no other options.
[offtopic] I never make a option like "turn add-on on/off" this setting makes no sense to me. Why i should install something when it's turned off?*g* And you can turn every modifiction off when you deactivate it in the acp^^[/offtopic] |
Getting a 404 when going to:
http://www.botscout.com/getkey |
Just goto http://www.botscout.com and click on get a free API key

oh
thx 4 info it seems they changed it |
Nice mod. Seems to be working fine for me.
I've been looking for something like this for a while. Could you also make it check the 'stop forum spam' site too? If it checked both of those databases then there is very little chance of a spammer getting through. They also have a API query. I was thinking, what would happen if for some reason the botscout site was down? Would that mean legit people couldnt register as it cant access the API? |
atm yes
there is a new version i'm working on which will include a option for this |
Tagged, will check out @ home - Good Idea btw :D
