Outside The Box - a clean professional theme with side column

1 Attachment(s)
Out Of The Box is a free vBulletin style that is designed for a business or professional-type forum, altho anyone can use it!

This styles features -
  • a relocated navigation bar and login/member info
  • optimized for postbit legacy
  • a side column for ads, links, affiliates, partners, etc.
  • valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional

Installation Instructions -
  1. Click on the "Install" button on the right of this post, then download the zip file to your computer and extract it (I put it on my desktop, it's easier to remember where I put it!).
  2. Open your ftp client to your server. Go to your forum's images folder, open it, and create a styles folder.
  3. Next, upload the redbox folder via FTP to your server, into the styles folder, so that your image path is images/styles/redbox/buttons, for example.
  4. After you've uploaded the folder, open your admin control panel on your forum, and import the xml file, by going to Styles & Templates > Download / Upload styles > Import Style XML File.
  5. Click on the Browse button, locate the redbox-style.xml, and double-click it, so it loads in that box, then hit the Import button.

You'll find a blank images folder in the zip file, containing blank buttons and the logo for the header, all in PNG format for easy editing.

If you would like this style customized for your forum, please read here.

NOTES: Don't forget to replace the Google Adsense code with your own. You'll find it in the navbar template, in the breadcrumb code.

The side column code is in the the FORUMHOME template, and clearly marked.
I have placed our affiliates ads and our partner links on the demo so that you can see how it looks. When you install this style, you'll see "Text Goes Here".

You also have alot of space to the right of the logo, in the header template, to place banner ads.

Enjoy! https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

I love the simple look.

I have a few questions tho. how Can i remove the Left Column and put te "user cp, new posts, calendar" bar back in it's default location?

Ohiosweetheart 03-15-2009 09:06 PM

Revert the header and navbar templates. This will take the navbar out of the header and put it back in the navbar template.

To remove the side column, open the FORUMHOME template and find <!-- Start of Side Menu -->. Delete all the way down to, and including, <!-- /End of Side Menu -->

I've installed the style and would have to say its the best of see'n. I've been looking for ages to find a style that would work for my new forum VLAERO.

One question i have installed the arcarde and was wondering how i get the button on the top nav bar.

Also i'd be interested in getting some custom work done email me at info@vlaero.com.au

Ohiosweetheart 03-22-2009 01:14 AM

The navigation bar is at the top of the header template in this style, so you'll have to add the link manually.

Thanks for the compliments, and don't forget to mark Installed :)

I use Cybernetec's Subforum Manager. You can set it to 2 or 3 columns, I think.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=201294

as for the arcade link, it should look something like this -
Code:

<td class="thead"><a href="http://www.vlaero.com.au/arcade.php" accesskey="5">Arcade</a></td>

86AERO 03-26-2009 06:36 PM

You are a legend the forum looks and works great i think its time to get some members. Email me a web banner 480 x 60 and i'll add it to the site for you.

Ohiosweetheart 03-26-2009 06:58 PM

ah yes, that looks much better. more organized.

Good luck with your site!

ahmer 04-12-2009 08:53 PM

very nice thank you

Ohiosweetheart 04-17-2009 09:54 PM

Thank you ahmer!

Madbatty 04-25-2009 12:53 PM

Could someone please be so kind and tell me what I need to do, to change the colum from the left to the right side? I tried a few things to do that myself but without success xD

Ohiosweetheart 04-25-2009 06:17 PM

You can't. My column is specifically for the left side of the forum. You can always remove the code from forumhome template and install one of the mods here on .org.

I like this, Thanks

You're welcome :)

Any chance of a release for 3.8.2?

Ohiosweetheart 05-03-2009 08:37 PM

I hadn't planned on it, no. But the 3.8.1 version works just fine on 3.8.2 as there was no change in the templates involved.

v12kid 05-05-2009 02:15 AM

any chance we can get a fixed width? Nice work btw :)

Ohiosweetheart 05-05-2009 02:47 AM

Thank you.

I'm sorry but these are offered as is.

Jari37 08-12-2009 08:06 PM

I would like to have the column on every page, so I copied the side bar code from 'forumhome' and put it into the 'showthread' template, figuring it would achieve the same result it has on 'forumhome'.

The column showed up, but for some reason the main content part of the page was not filling the rest of the space, it was a reduced size, taking up something like 60% of the space. This doesn't happen on the 'forumhome' pages, the content is spread nicely across the space with no gaps either side.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.

Ohiosweetheart 08-12-2009 09:23 PM

Nope, sorry. The side column is only for the forumhome. I've never used one on every page so I don't know how to fix this for you.

ShawneyJ 08-19-2009 12:08 AM

Excellent ;)

DsmNikki 08-24-2009 01:35 AM

Go to --> Styles & Templates --> Outside The Box --> click on the << >> button over on the far right.

Find the header template in the list, then on the far right again, click on the Revert button. This will take the header back to it's original state.

Then scroll down to Navigation/Breadcrumb templates and double-click on that. In the list that appears beneath it, find the navbar template (the title should appear in red). To the right, click on revert button. This will put the navigation bar back down under the breadcrumb box.

If you need more help, feel free to visit my site and post on the release thread there. :)

First and foremost, thank you ever so much for making this free to everyone! What a wonderful person you are :-)

I'm using this skin and have a very slight problem. The top navigation bar is missing the little black arrows after I edited the left hand column out. What code did I mess up and what should I do in order to get those neat little arrows back? :-)

Thank you!

Wabuf 11-17-2009 06:06 PM

Awesome skin! Love the side column.

Wingz 03-06-2010 07:57 AM

Thanks for this; I notice it's made for VB v3.8.1 will it work OK with v3.8.4 ?

DarthCoder 03-06-2010 02:08 PM

this craptheme is another proof that females are not good for anything but fu**ing :- )
