spamming user hitting the boards
dunno if any of you have noticed, there is a user registering on msg boards posting a REALLY retarded message:
Quote:
http://www.google.com/search?q=downl...e7&rlz=1I7DMUS so, go ahead and delete these posts of ur forum. nothing but retarded spam. |
I got this one on 2 of my forums. No links so I let them be. They both were in the correct forum so I didn't have a problem with it.
|
I'd assume it's supposed to be used as a cue for another spammer account to post a link to a spammy website that 'answers' said users question, I've heard of that technique in spamming before, especially with a certain kind of spambot program that had one user register and post a question about it, then another user register to post a link to said spam program/site.
|
we see this for ages on IRC, where two users log onto a channel, chat regularly, and then at a 30 seconds interval, one is asking something, and the other answers... then the guy ask "where did you hear about this".. and then, tada, a url... :)
|
i know exactly what this is suppose to do. asking for the driver for this item is suppose to make you search for it, and there is only a select few of websites offering the driver for it, and also offering you the item and type. on the sites if you try to request the driver it asks for your email information and name, you know details, so if you input it, it gets your email address and so on, then once you receive the driver or whatever it might send you, your prolly going to be spread among a spam list. thats the goal for this "question".
|
actually it is more insidious... if you just go search via Google, you help indexing that response site... and if you click the resulted link, you double the chance that the site raise in ranking even more, because you found what you were searching for....

Stupid spam bots :(
Got this on my site as well. |
Bot spamming as never been a problem for me. It's member spamming that was a problem trying to get x amount of posts. Thankyou, yes, no. psd not speak english.

for those of you wanting to stop alot of spamming accounts, i have compiled a small list of domains where registerations are coming from.
match them to your boards users and see if you have registered users on there. 99% chance youve banned them for spamming. Code:

here is another one i got today:

I still strongly recommend Is Bot (this catches about 100 signups a day) and the One Touch Spam Ban and Cleanup. We have those two mods and hardly ever see any spam (maybe once a week).
|
Will there come a day when there will be no spam?
Sadly i don't think so :( |

what are these your referencing to lynne? |

I've been using Is bot as long as I can remember which is a while (I can't remember) but it's a nice prevention and if memory recalls it requires a file edit.
*Looks at some of the recommendations being recommended* |
This is one under-rated mod, but its really the best one out there. Works wonders for me.
