Hi , well... Lets see, i like to be truthful so here it goes.

its not attractive whatsoever , the logo is unprofessional , in terms of what you are trying to accomplish or the type of audience you want to attract.. the website is boring ( look wise ) its dull , dead looking , i suggest buying a skin , or hiring a designer to spice up the website.

So far looks like your own efforts have not rendered much results ..

For a car forum , it REALLY needs to kick butt in my perspective ..

4/10 , if that .. but hey you can always improve!.

Regards

ok, lets be honest, its a bit bland for my taste, the portal need to catch your attention, maybe try adding some images to the welcome module.

you could do with a new header image/banner doesnt look to professional IMO.

maybe invest in a skin, vbskinworks do 2 car skins, i use one for my own car forum

it needs 'jazzed' up but its only my opinion :D

kNeeLy 04-03-2009 09:03 PM

i dont know guys...

I asked a few other car forum people...they said the complete opposite..

But thats cool..

I have a few skins...Theres already one loaded on there at the time of the viewing.

How could you not see that it wasnt the default vb skin?

Thanks for the honesty...but remember what opinons are like!! lol

briansol 04-03-2009 09:05 PM

the big killer is the link to the forum on the top nav doesn't even take you to the forum...

people from car forums will say your site is good because their own is crap... you can't ask lower level users to rate your style, you need to ask the guys who make real sites -- sorry, but not hard feelings, you're in the world where people compete a lot here!

a website is never personal, even your own blog, so take advantage of the reviews, not being frustrated by them.

you use a 3rd party style with no real change aside of your header which look like 90% of all the cars forum i've visited in the last 5 years.

your portal is pointless... a clean forumhome will give more results.

avoid bold in your posts, avoid black text too... people are already going to read your text, no need to make them bold.

thank you...

i'm definity not frustrated yet..one thing I do understand is that a good forum takes years to surface. I knew this going into it.

One thing I dont like is when people give you reviews based off their opinon only. When they do that it goes in one ear and out the other. But when I see sumones site with thousands of active members...i study there site, and see what I can adapt into mine.

nexialys 04-06-2009 05:44 PM

ok so, do not go to my forum, you would have a hard time adapt everything from it.. lol

A review is a opinion, a brand new vb admin might think you site looks "cool" someone that is not a webmaster might think you did a "good job" but i would like to think the people here know a bit more.

It takes a while to get your site perfect, maybe years, but to get a site online and looking good should be a week, month tops.

Here is my review, opinion if you will...

1. why is your logo hosted on photobucket? behind my work firewall i cant even see it....host it onsite.

2. skins too dark and not very "car-y" IMO, toyota is a kind of light hearted, earth friendly, vibrant brand, reflect that on your site.

3. dark blue on black in the welcome message on the homepage is super hard to read, welcome message is bland, like someone said above, add a image or something there.

4. I see under the welcome on the homepage "You don't have permission to see the Chatbox." well that sucks, it is offputting for a guest to see that IMO....people aren't going to register just to see that...

5. homepage in general is off balance with a tall right side with thread and a short left side column, fill up that blank space.

6. guests see a "new post" link in the sidebar on the hompage that take you to a no permissions menu, again, off-putting. same with usercp link, you can hide/change this for guests so there aren't so many bumps in the road. same with the top navbar "quicklinks" "search" and "content" don't work for guests, fix them or remove them. also why have a "logout" button when you are not even logged in.

7. "tune my toyota" is the name, yet we have a multitude of corolla sections and not any other models, that is strange......

That's about all the major points, should give you plenty to do. You came here and made this thread to get advice, every post in the thread so far has had good advice in it, take the advice, make your site better, thank the posters here, and prosper.

1. cuz i cant figure out how to host it..lol..

Commenting on 1st appearances and Overall look of your forum:
You could very well benefit by having a custom theme made - Yes you have a ton of skins -- They are obviously premade skins. They are all boring, bland and have nothing to do with Toyota - Even the header is a bit bla... The text does not stand out and is not memorable - In fact - There's nothing memorable about your forum and there's nothing that really says "Toyota!"

Um - about your header image - You should truly upload it to your images folder or something - because hosting your main site banner on PhotoBucket is a bit tacky... And what if PhotoBucket is down? Then your header will not show.

First impressions, It's dull, bland and visually nothing that says much work went into the design.

The logo - Hosted on photobucket (I know it's been said numerous times) why have you still got it hosted on an image hosting site when you have your own host? Many people like to browse from their workplace and many firms have image hosting sites on their block list. Another reason why you shouldn't use an image hosting site (or third party site for hosting images) if it goes down your images hosted there will not show. Listen to the feedback instead of ignoring it and host your images on your paid hosting.

The gradient in the thead are falling short in the height department resulting in the alternative background colour to show. This looks terrible and visually an eyesore. Increase the height of the gradients to a larger scale so the background alternative colour isn't showing.

Graphically, there's nothing i like much about the style. Icons and gradients look bland and nothing says to me this is a car related site apart from the domain and logo which don't look that great. In the design department, I suggest going back to the drawing board and start again but only this time with some motivation and creativity put into the design.
