April Fools Day
 

April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day, although not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. ;)

The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. :eek:

Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon. If you play a trick on someone after this time you are the April Fool. Elsewhere, for example in Ireland or France, the jokes may last all day. :D

How about if we set a challenge and come up with an april fools Hack or mod that will allow admins to play a trick on their members.

Closing Date for this Challenge is the 28th March 2009 That gives everyone 5 weeks and that would give admins a few good days to load up their trick on their forums.

So start thinking Guys and post here if you want to take part, If we all post our hacks on the same day 28th March, Then we could hold a vote for the Best one :D

Anyone up for a challenge and remember Keep it secret, you wouldn't want anyone stealing your ideas :D

I used this one last year. My Mods are thinking there is no way we can possibly beat it this year - April Fools - Ban User

I had this last year... wouldn't want to fool the users twice with the same prank :p

Hopefully some will come up with a new idea a day or two before April 1-st.

In that way we can test and get the best out of it, on April 1.

My team and I are looking at various ideas right now. One would be for me to have a public falling-out with a few of them over the next four weeks and announce a major restructuring on 1st April whereby I'd be the only admin and moderator on the board. I'd move them into a ninja-mod group I have so they can still do the work. It's not a hack, but possibly an idea that could go too far.

It's like valentine, halloween etc. A 1 day event for creating something isn't worth the weeks, days of effort going into a project just for one day. It's not efficient in my books to create something for 1 day of the year.

Like one of the volunteers say here. Time is money. Though I'm sure the people using your script will thank you for it.

Mine took a couple of hours to set up, but I like doing things like this for my users. We also do a Halloween skin and Holiday skin (usually from here and then modified with our modifications). I don't care that it's just for one day - it's fun!

Its just a bit of fun, for one day, let your hair down and wind the members up ;)

To be honest mines just a bit of html and a button on the postbit ;) the idea was a few days in the pipeline, to do it and the code took a few hours at most.

At least this year we'll have a nice selection of April fools Tricks and a little competition between us with a vote for the best :cool:

You don't have to explain your intentions to me, I'm sure they are good. I'm one of those type and speaking from a developers stance I suppose is that it wouldn't be worth my time just for one day to create something. Xmas on the other hand, Because it spans for a month or so I'll go out my way and create something for the community but for one day I wouldn't.

Well, I'll thank you if they don't like I mentioned in another thread. Your a good contributor here and we need more light hearted people around just to keep those morons (shelley) in check. :mad:

Looking at your other thread don't let others deter you from releasing I'm sure the community appreciate your ubundance of contributions even if it's not in text. Anyway, I'll stop typing now before this gets mistaken for a serious ass kissing response.

Thanks for that, When i first came on VB.org i took inspiration from a few guys and i'm i'm honest, from you also.

There are a lot of decent guys here which give ordinary VB owners brilliant additions to their VB sites, Me, just being a newbie of sorts, has a long way to go before i can even begin to equal the experiance of some you you more hardened members.

Like you, i'd better go before this gets mistaken for a serious ass kissing response, which might be fun :D

I don't think I could write anything but our users really do enjoy it when we cause havoc. :)

Ha Ha, Sounds fun on your forum, I Think this weekend we'll do a round up and perhaps get some April fools day hacks posted in the mod forum, we'll be able to vote here when they've all been released and tested.

This years April Fools day will definately be one to remember :D

Last year I did an april fools on my members, it kinda backfired coz I had members think the site was down for good and didnt come back for several months. (I was actually doing server maintenance while the site was down it just happened to be on April fools lol, but I did leave a message beforehand making them think otherwise. I thought it was funny at the time but in hind site it probably wasnt lol).

this year I might be more careful what kind of prank I pull.
