User Countdowns & Countups

1 Attachment(s)
Got the inspiration for this mod here. Problem is, that mod does not work anymore. We decided to write our own.

This product allows users to set up a countdown timer or countup timer. The timer can run in real time with the javascript counter, or just static. Admin can choose to show the timer in users sigs or in the postbit user info area.

Usergroup permissions are handled in the options area so you do not have to modify many usergroups one at a time.

This product was developed for Andy R from Social Knowledge and released here for others to enjoy.

Enjoy!

Time for the Countdown till Spring.
Thanks

Internetcafe 02-18-2009 10:15 PM

Works in 3.7.4 .. thanks for a useful addition.

Hasann 02-18-2009 11:08 PM

Very Nice
How many queries does this add to each postbit+signature?

very interesting , thanks

Andrew johnson 02-19-2009 12:43 AM

looks great - i will install in our forums

oly51 02-19-2009 12:59 AM

Interesting mod. Is there any way it could be set up so certain Usergroups (say Mods & Admins) could place the countdown timer into a post or a way limit the forums where it can be added to a post (or their sig/postbit) by members?

Members on my site often start threads about an event they are running or will be attending. The first post usually contains the event details. It would be nice to have the countdown in that post.

Jafo232 02-19-2009 01:41 AM

Not a way to do that with this mod, no.

Hornstar 02-19-2009 05:33 AM

thats a shame, that would be a wonderful feature!

zelnik 02-19-2009 07:22 AM

Simply does not work on 3.8.1 for me..

Installed properly, shows up in USER CP, set the countdown and nothing shows in either signature or postbit depending what you chose.. set it to active=yes also.

Using default vB style so it can't be hooks issue...

Any ideas?

Daoism 02-19-2009 08:44 AM

yeah. A countdown in a post would be nice :D

TandyServices 02-19-2009 08:49 AM

Works for me.. But is there a way to center it in the sig or bold or colors?? You know all the options?? If so this would be great add.

newmasalaboard 02-19-2009 09:10 AM

Very usefull MOD for various events in our forum :)

"Marked as Installed"

zelnik 02-19-2009 09:38 AM

I've installed it just fine on my fresh install test forum and it works fine..

So it must be conflicting with other add-ons/mods?

I have it working on a 3.8.1 forum, so I would suggest its most definitely a conflict on your forum somewhere with another hack :)

I 2nd this suggestion! They don't really stand out enough at the moment, and also the text spaced out over numerous lines - would prefer to have it on just one line, or two max.

Cheers :)

MindTrix 02-19-2009 11:25 AM

Installed and seemed to be working ok. Just two problems:

1) Not very clear to use if you want to have the counter count UP.
2) I set a time to count up from, then edited it and now the counter does not show in the post bit anymore, possible bug?

You can edit the sk-timer_countdownbit to add more styling.

bw1 02-19-2009 02:29 PM

Great! Thx :)

l_amhed 02-19-2009 03:42 PM

Hi,

I've just tested it on my localhost to see how it would react. This is a good addon but I like when there is only one signature per page/per user so I've installed the hack "Display only one signature per member per thread". But yours display the countdown all the time, in each posts. So there is a sort of "conflict" between them. Or is there a file modification to apply to solve this ?

Thanks.

bestword 02-19-2009 09:45 PM

It's a good mod.

But i think it would have more useful if it could shown in more area not only in users sigs and users info area

Hi Jafo,

Could you please give some support on how to make the countdown appear on one line.

Example:

Quote:

My birthday is in:
8 Days, 4 Hours
52 Minutes, 31 seconds
To:

Quote:

I've looked at the template and can't work out how to change this. I did work out how to add the colour/bold etc. effects though!

Cheers :)

If you edit the plugin called: "Handle timer in postbit", just delete"<br />" then click save. :)

JayEss 02-20-2009 11:50 AM

Hi there, great mod, thanks. Is it possible to have more than one countdown per member? My members like to count down to their kids' birthdays and obviously most have more than one kid... :) Cheers.

soundbarrierpro 02-20-2009 12:10 PM

Not working in 3.7.2 PL1 in either signature or messagebit

Merrit 02-20-2009 12:18 PM

Can anybody let me know where I can translate the output data? I am running a German board with this counter. The displayed text in user info is "701 days 3 hours".

I also need to translate the text in ucp "Edit countdown/countup" to German.

Any idea?

Thx in advance!

MindTrix 02-20-2009 08:21 PM

Any news/update on the message i posted before with the errors?

I have the same problem, some have 5 or more :)

Thank you, that did the trick :)

ottawamom 02-21-2009 09:59 PM

Um... it's giving me errors - is there a quick way to uninstall or disable? I can't seem to find for some reason right now. It seems good but just need to tweak my set up before I take this live.

jellykelly 02-22-2009 03:35 AM

Having issues. Followed instructions for installation. The prompt appears in the UCP. Clicking on the prompt only brings up a 404 error. Any ideas? Thank you!

Jafo232 02-22-2009 11:27 AM

Yeah, you didn't upload all the files, or you didn't upload them correctly. You have to upload the CONTENTS of the upload directory, not the upload directory itself.

The days, hours, secs, etc can be found in the clientscript/sktimer.js file:

Code:

DisplayFormat = "%%D%% Days, %%H%% Hours, %%M%% Minutes, %%S%% Seconds.";
Or in "Handle timer in postbit" plugin.

As for the rest, it is phrased. Do a search in phrases.

jellykelly 02-22-2009 08:38 PM

Thank you. I'll try again.

odln018 02-22-2009 08:54 PM

I've got a forum where we are running a special event, each thread will need to have the same timer.

Can this be done wit this mod?

Ex.

Thread Vote 1 - ends on A
THread Vote 2 - Ends on A

Merrit 02-23-2009 12:48 AM

Thx for your support!

Wunderlust 02-23-2009 12:52 AM

Can't get it to work on 3.8.1. Does anyone know what the conflict with another mod might be?

jellykelly 02-23-2009 01:29 AM

Thank you. It worked. My husband had me second guessing myself.

meissenation 02-23-2009 11:37 AM

Can anyone confirm that it causes issues in Firefox? I've confirmed this on two different computers and it only happens to the person who has a count-down timer in their sig. I have this product installed so that only the Administrators can use it per the usergroup permissions in the Options. I have it displayed in my signature. While using Firefox, if I reply to a post using Quick Reply the reloading of the page is broken... That is, it will post the reply and instead of refreshing the page to show my post it sits at a blank screen saying "Loading..." and never loads. This happens on two separate machines using Firefox. Seems to work OK in Chrome and Internet Explorer.
