Pirated vb.org mods..

Is there ANYTHING we (vb.org community) can do about pirated vb.org mods??

:confused::confused::confused:

The author can request that his work is removed if it is ditributed without his permission. There is nothing the community can do as only the author has a say about where his work is distributed.

I don't think anything can be done to stop it. If the whole mother product, vbulletin, is available to download anytime for free, then forget about mods.

I have seen torrent sites giving a RAR pack of ALL vb.org mods to download with an extra bonus of vbulletin 3.8.1 lol, what can be worse.

If complete suite of products from companies like Microsoft, Adobe can be cracked and available at such sites, via torrents etc, I doubt vbulletin stands somewhere.

Sad but true.

That is the only argument to give about piracy... i vote for you !

The love of the community won't cut it. Even if (and that's a big if) you managed to close one site down, 5 others would pop up in it's place. Then we would need a round table (much like the one in the tales of king Arthur) we haven't got that, nor the finest oak and expertise to assemble such a table. We would be loosing money not making any. Which is, the achiveable goal.

You could always dabble in reverse psychology... Example!! (take my script, heck steal it I want you to, distribute it make money from it) and this might deter them. It might. :)

Is this another forum or just website doing thing? Please tell me it's a forum, that would be fun to mess with them, if that were the case. Bastads!

iogames 02-09-2009 12:04 PM

Old issue... we have to put it on the FAQ :D

smacklan 02-09-2009 02:06 PM

You mean to tell me there are actually people out there stealing our work???...oh the horror! :p

UKBusinessLive 02-09-2009 02:35 PM

When i did the DivX BBcode with help from Dangerousdale ;) I was shocked to see it on a dodgy Priate VB site coded by some equally dodgy chinese guy, Yeah right

All i can say is what we do must be good if someone copies it ;)

Never the less they still deserve a slap, anyone going to viet nam on vacation this year???:cool:

My suggestion is that you contact the hosting provider. But if the host is an off shore company in some unknown part of asia - good luck. From previous results, most hosting providers do not want to get involved in a copyright dispute.

We need big Jack.

If demand was not there then there would be no boards offering Hacks.
So what does that say....................

actually, webhosts are not lawyers, it's not their job to apply any copyrights, and they have no power to protect you. If someone steal your work, engage a lawyer, that is your only solution...

some countries have laws regarding hosting of illegal resources, but you have to proove that your stuff is illegally hosted, that means you have to protect yourself legally too... iogames can say a lot about that... :)

They have the power to protect theirselves. If the hosting provider thinks that they will get pulled into a lawsuit, some of them will shut the offending site down.

I have been through this before. One of my members posted some copyrighted material on my forum. The owner of the material contacted my host and threatened to sue everyone involved. My host contacted me saying either I remove the content or my account would be closed.

So I removed the content and gave that member a 5 day ban. In the end everyone was happy (hopefully), besides the member that got banned, he was not too happy.
