New Server, site works for some and not for others
Just bought a new server.. transferred all the files and everything but the site works fine for me and a couple other members but not for other members, telling me that they get this: http://i40.tinypic.com/2nkhv7m.jpg
link: http://www.inthagame.com/forums/index.php Can someone plz help! thanks, ryan |
Need to check your email to find out why the database error occurred.
edit: I just checked the link to your site and get the database error but also I am seeing 404 errors if I try to access register.php and I would expect to get the database error but get a file not found? |
email? why would i check that? do u think i might of not installed it right?
|
Because that's how vBulletin works. It give you a totally generic message on the screen but sends you an email to your administrative email address to tell you what the error was.

ok, ill check it and i checked my ftp there was some missing files, i uploaded them and one member said it still doesnt work.
|
Good stuff, now you need to find that email to see why the database is croaking... That's better, now I get the database error when I tried to run the register.php file which is what I expected. Are you on GoDaddy?
|
Unless you have your email address set in config.php, you WON'T get error emails & having it set while getting errors will fill you email box rather quickly.
You can easily check the screen as well by right clicking the page and selecting "view source" from the drop menu, that will also tell you the database error. Paste the db error msg here. |
Yea im on godaddy.
edit: dont think im getting the emails and @snakes im not getting the error screen so i cant do that. Can some plz do that for me. |
this is your error

Thanks, ok with go daddy do i have make a mySQL database? and how?
|
I think you need to get GoDaddy to help you fix the mysql configuration problem.
I don't understand the last question, did you not import your database from the old site? |
Do you think that could be the problem? I uploaded the vbulletin.sql file to the directory folder and never made a mySQL database, if so is there anything special i need to do? The co-owner of the site set everything up last time and he isnt on the site anymore so this is my first time doing this..
btw thx for everyones help appreciate it. |
you got to setup your database first.Import the database,Then go to your config.php put your database info then you are set.
|
ok made my database,
it says MySQL Database Information Status: Pending Setup Host Name: Pending Setup Database Version: 5.0 Description: Inthagame I put that info in config.php ? (when its finished setting up) |
Well, godaddy, they are about the nicest host when it comes to importing db backup files, they have to many limits and you will most likely have to use "bigdump" to import the backup anyways if its over say 32mb in size.
You can setup a new db in the godaddy control pane l of your account, add a user and passwd as well, as pb2k3 stated you will need to add that info after you setup the new user, passwd & db. to the config.php file of vb. Edit to add: As you posted while i was typing, you can ignore some of my post, add the username, passwd & databse name to your config.php file and resave it to the server. You can try importing thru phpmyadmin which is also in your hosting panel, import the db file from your computer, as i said tho, if its to large, its going to fail. |
ok i tried to import through phpmyadmin but didnt work so how do i edit/add the info to my config.php file?
|
You will need to remove that vbulletin.sql file you uploaded, that is a bad thing to have on your server loose like that ... anyone can access it where it is.
Edit: Sorry I was away for a few minutes, if you are going to use BigDump to import your database, you can use the file you have already uploaded and move it to a folder called bigdump. here is the download link for bigdump |

Use bigdump to import it, adding anything to config.php at this point is doesnt really matter until u import the db. |

good luck |
ok thanks, going to try it now
--------------- Added [DATE]1234161579[/DATE] at [TIME]1234161579[/TIME] --------------- Its not opening for me: Not Found The requested URL /forums/Dump/bigdump.php was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. |
did you actually upload the file bigdump.php to your ftp?
|
yea, its not working, is there anything i have to do to the file before i upload it to the ftp?
|
well a 404 error states its not there, are you sure you uploaded it to forums/dump/ ?
|
Yea, im 100% sure even re-uploaded it like 4 times
|
well as long as the file perms (chmod 644) are right and you uploaded it there, without looking for myself, its hard to say why its spitting out a 404 error.

Did you change your DNS nameservers? Your uploading to one place but its still calling on another??
That would explain why some users could get on the site and others couldnt. New DNS's have to propagate like a new domain. Sometimes it gets wacky when it bounces around. calling on the DB from one server and files from the other  If you updated the proper DNS stuff then your users can clear the DNS for your site on their computers. This problem should self correct though, it could be a PITA for some users. If this is happening, it would explain your 404 error on a file you swear is there. haha I've had issues with it myself over the years. LOL |

All the tables and everything are there in phpmyadmin and im still getting this: <!-- Database error in vBulletin : mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) /home/content/i/t/g/itgadmin/html/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 311 MySQL Error : Error Number : Request Date : Monday, February 9th 2009 @ 10:57:00 AM Error Date : Monday, February 9th 2009 @ 10:57:00 AM Script : http://www.inthagame.com/forums/index.php Referrer : IP Address : 72.148.168.26 Username : Classname : vB_Database MySQL Version : --> |
