My first computer was a Commodore Vic 20. That was in 1982.
Went up that line for a while then got a Apple IIc clone. Eventually moved to a second hand Mac Plus. Stayed with Apple until the Performa series. When Windows 95 came out, I switched to a PC because I felt Windows was superior than System 7. Simply got tired of seeing sad mac faces and bomb icons all the time. Built my own PCs until about 2005. Got my current computer in 2007. Its a prebuilt HP computer similar to their current 6700 line. It has a 2.6 Ghz AMD Dual core processor and 3 GB of RAM. Currently using Windows 7 beta on it. I'll have to say that in the ten years of building my own computers and now using HP computers, I have seen the "Blue Screen of Death" less than 5 times. |
Mine was an Apple II, in 1980, cost me £800.

@Wayne
I think that one came out before the commodore 64, I was looking at that as an alternative to the amstrad, but after seeing a demo in the local camera shop, I thought the Amstrad complete with Monitor was a far superior machine. Not sure who was more happy about not plugging the PC into the Television, me or my parents :D Certainly brings back memories ;) --------------- Added [DATE]1233950938[/DATE] at [TIME]1233950938[/TIME] --------------- Quote:

As for the Vic20. My dad bought that one day on the way home from work. Now my dad is not an impulsive shopper by any means but he saw this and felt that his kids needed to learn how to use computers. Of course he probably changed his mind when he came home one day and the television was showing this seizure inducing mass of colored blocks from my first self-written program. |

But those were the early days of PC's and it was us shoppers that kept the dream going, I think that it was the president of IBM that once said that PC's would never kick off in the home :eek: Can't imagine how many times he kicked himself over that comment lol |
