Monthly 75% of 60 GB?! Yikes!

My household, has 3 computers, and sometimes 4. I have my personal laptop, my grandparents have their computer (they live upstairs), and my sister/mom have a computer. My dad is in the military, but when he's home (rarely), his laptop is also in use.

We have a total of 60 GB Memory, monthly. I just received a notice, saying 75% of this 60 GB was being used?! YIKES!

I text messaged my dad, and asked him if this was a huge problem (considering it's only the 3rd day of the month!), and he asked me if I was downloading stupid sh-t like porn or something. To be honest, I'm not right now, but I am downloading the X-Files... All 9 seasons. Yikes, who knew it took up so much memory! Anyways, downloads were canceled, and hopefully we can live with the 25% we have left for the rest of the month...

Your referring to your ISP? And the bandwidth you've used? Looks like your on a capped service, 75% of 60 is 45gig. hmmm what ISP are you with? You should think about changing with the HD revolution coming not nearly enough to get by with so many computers in the household.

Yes, I am. I am with Rogers.

Magnumutz 02-03-2009 08:38 PM

What the heck, there still are ISPs with limited traffic? OMG!!

nexialys 02-03-2009 09:57 PM

if you are just browsing the net and watching 2 or 3 youtube videos per month, no biggy to be locked at 10Gigs... i have a T1 with 100Gigs limit, and hopefully i have that limit, or i would play online 24/7 ... lol

Limits are so yesterday.
Bit like Betamax / Chopper bikes / Action Man / Tonka Trucks

They served their purpose at one time but we moved on since then :)

Oh my god, i download and upload about 500GB per month easily... not to talk about browsing, YouTube and my dad & bro online games...
That's sick man... ISPs in Romania don't have download limits for years now.
Only wireless ones.

Hmmm.. I don't know how much we download every month. Never kept track. Five computers and a Wii all connected to the internet. We have four World of Warcraft accounts in the house plus stream a fair amount of video online (television and movies in HD) as well as stream music on at least two computers up to six hours a day. Add in normal web browsing and I guess it could be a fair amount. We don't have a download limit, though we have the "Xtreme" package from our provider which includes traffic preference and a higher speed than their other packages.

All very well for those that live in areas where the telephone exchanges have been unbundled and ISP's have added their services/equipment but for the vast majority of exchanges in the UK there is no such option and services are limited by BT Wholesale rates,ISP's are charged per GB and so users are capped by ??'s.

Cable services are only seen in major cities or large conurbations so again are not available here for many people.

Where unbundled services are available you get so called "unlimited" packages but all carry vague Fair Usage Policies which dictate bandwidth at peak times and every "unlimited" service listed has a minimum 12 month tie in contract so if your provider is garbage you are stuck with it.

Umm... then i should consider us lucky?
We got cables and even optic fiber in small villages, at the country side.
People wanna stay online anywhere they go :D

Almost everyUK ISP has a cap, and those few that don't advertise a cap all have fair usage policies where if you go about a certain threshold, they will send you a letter telling you to cut down or you'll be cut off.

Magnumutz 02-06-2009 10:39 AM

Geez that sounds awful...
In romania, only wireless providers have a cap.
But once you reach that, you don't get cut off, your speed goes down to 56k or something like that...

Winterworks 02-07-2009 12:13 AM

We've used up 100% now... In 5 days into the month, we used 60 Gbs. We found out that my sister left Limewire turned on for about a week, and it was sharing files... It now costs me 2.5$ for every GB I go over.

Magnumutz 02-07-2009 07:11 AM

Oh man, that's HUGE...
