Force New Users!
Hi All,
Been looking around and cannot find such a modification or Im blind :) I need to force new registered users to make a post in one section first before they can make further posts within the rest of the forum, is there such a hack? I've tried using the promotions part of VB but when I lower the time to 1 minute its not working hence another way request. Anyone? Regards |
I found this hack by typing in "force" > All Mods > Titles only
Force Users to Read Thread Not sure if there's a way to force them to post (havent read it myself) - but I now quite a few people who have this mod, and like it quite a bit. Hope that helps some |

I don't use it but I presume that you could make it fit your needs. |
What is wrong with the promotions system? I'm sure users "worth having" wouldn't mind a little wait.
|
The promotions system I've tried but the cron does not work for some unknown reason. I've lowered the update from default of 25 minutes to 1 minute and its not working, hence a hack is requested.
Regards and thanks all. |
Please elaborate on the "does not work". what doesn't work. Is the Sched. Task not running? Isn't it doing what you intended? Is this on a production board with members online all the time?
|
The task just does not update automatically, it works if I manually run it but not automatic.
Regards |
But it does run?
|
Just checked the logs and its only ever run once and thats when I manually clicked run from the Scheduled Task Manager.
So no its not running? Regards |
If you view the source of any normal forum page, do you see this near the end? (It will not be exactly the same.)
HTML Code:
<img src="http://www.yoursite.com/forum/cron.php?rand=XXXXXXX" alt="" width="1" height="1" border="0" /> |
If I look at the source for the main front page I see:
<div class="smallfont" align="center"> <!-- Do not remove <img src="http://www.xxxxxxx.co.uk/cron.php?rand=1232275033" alt="" width="1" height="1" border="0" /> or your scheduled tasks will cease to function --> <img src="http://www.xxxxxxx.co.uk/cron.php?rand=1232275033" alt="" width="1" height="1" border="0" /> <!-- Do not remove <img src="http://www.xxxxxxx.co.uk/cron.php?rand=1232275033" alt="" width="1" height="1" border="0" /> or your scheduled tasks will cease to function --> Does that look ok? Regards PS, Cron.php is in the root but the permissions are set at 644 is that right? |
Ok I have this installed.. I'm fairly new at this but HOW do I find the thread id so I can put this to use?
TIA |
Why dont you ask within the hack thread itself but just go into...
Forums & Moderators, Forum Manager and and put your mouse over the section you need and the ID will show up at the end of the URL or click the actual section as if yo edit it and at the top it will show the ID like: Forum: Welcome Section (id: 4). Regards Quote:
