Mod Author/OP

Has anyone ever suggested adding a little graphic or icon to the postbit to show when a person posting in a thread is the Mod Author or the OP? Just thought it would be something nice to have. Something like:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/55.png https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/56.png

Shelley_c 01-10-2009 04:50 AM

Good idea.

Ziki 01-10-2009 06:41 AM

And also co-author or co-supporter?

Digital Jedi 01-10-2009 08:35 AM

I was thinking author only to distinguish and make it more obvious when it's the author posting in the thread. Co-Author/Supporter might make it confusing, as sometimes a supporter is just someone who's donated or a lot of people could have contributed to a project and then everyone has got an image. Not to mention it'd be a bit more complex to do.

Interesting idea, where in the postbit would you suggest (remember we use both legacy and normal here).

Sorry, no, that wont happen.

My first inclination is to say to the bottom left, right across from the editor buttons on postbit, and that same area, maybe beside the Report Post button on postbit_legacy.

ForumsMods 01-10-2009 01:43 PM

Great Ide.
I sigest put it only for author in the same place where the installed button is now.

Alfa1 01-10-2009 05:58 PM

This would be very useful! I have gone up to the first post many times, to check who was the author, when following a mod thread.

Magnumutz 01-10-2009 06:26 PM

Pretty good idea, since a mod page has 100 replies, having an image to show who's the Author will help.

Paul M 01-10-2009 06:51 PM

We would need an image more consistant with the current "Installed" image.

Same here. It's a good idea.

You mean something translucent, right? I was thinking something more like a tiny badge, but whatever you think works. I forgot the installed image was right in the same area. Maybe something can be crafted from the original PSDs used to make Installed (if they're still around).

Shelley_c 01-11-2009 08:22 AM

I would suggest in the top right hand corner in the post data. Maybe in the way of an icon or as DJ stated a text based image which would probably be better.

I know from experience I have to scroll back up in threads and check who is the author, Most of the time it's me who's the author.

Anyway, my suggestion on placement and the best location to insert the image would be in the top right hand side.

If this get's the go ahead, I'd be more than happy to design an image although I'm sure there are better designers who would like to also but I agree it should be consistent with the other images in the way of visuals.

>> I designed it as the same colour theme as the installed icon.https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/73.jpg https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/50.png https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/51.png https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/52.png https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/01/53.pngAnyway, I noticed roms posted an effort so I guess I gave it a shot also.

Just a note, I don't require any linkback or any acknowledgement if on the offchance you find that you want to use these. Furthermore, Pending you use them I'll pass the psd onto a staff member.

Yes, I was thinking that "Installed" would simply be replaced by "Developer" in posts by the mod author.

Paul M 01-12-2009 05:32 PM

This has been implemented (as above).

Roms 01-12-2009 05:42 PM

Looks great Paul.

Good idea Digital Jedi, very helpful. :D

Lynne 01-12-2009 05:53 PM

Very cool! Great idea and thanks for the install!

That looks really nice. And I see it overrides the Installed graphic if I'm the mod author with my own modification marked as installed. Thanks for implementing this. It's a small tweak, but it will save quite a bit of browsing time in the long run.

TheLastSuperman 01-13-2009 12:28 AM

I have not had time to notice any new tweaks here lol but I did today lol, I said... I need to go say something... I bet they have a thread up already!

GREAT SUGGESTION and IMPLEMENTATION IMO!!!!!

Mike

KevinL 01-13-2009 03:05 AM

I like it :)

Dean C 01-13-2009 09:28 AM

I like the suggestion. I'm not so keen on the implementation. I'm not a big fan of the graphics being used now as they're rather big and make the postbit that little bit taller on ALL mod threads. As 90% of people replying to a mod have installed it. I think a better idea would be to change the hue of the background of the developers postbit to a different colour. A lot of wordpress blogs use this idea, and it works extremely well. It's far easier to see a difference in contrast when scrolling through a thread, than it is to see this image. Gestalt Laws - for those not in the know ;)

Shelley_c 01-13-2009 09:46 AM

I agree with dean with the implementation of the developer image. It's far to big and for me it needs spacing on the left hand side and to the bottom (like the quote, m-quote & quickreply buttons). Keeping everything uniformed and tidy would have been a good thing to keep on board.

If the hue highlighting recommendation doesn't pass that dean suggested, at least re-size the developer image (height re-sizing) and add padding to the left/bottom of the image so it's in alignment with the rest of the images. Re-sizing it down would look so much better and (doubtful the postbit re-colour recommendation will pass) re-colour the blue border to another coloured hue like red, green or another colour.

There's no rule that states consistency means using the same exact colour as the installed image.

SEOvB 01-13-2009 03:04 PM

Great addition, looks wonderful!

I dont think it makes anything taller, since its in the same row as the edit and quote buttons which are already in the replies?

Marco van Herwaarden 01-13-2009 03:16 PM

That will depend on what postbit you are using. ;)

Digital Jedi 01-13-2009 04:34 PM

Aren't the editor buttons in the same place on both postbits?

Roms 01-13-2009 07:33 PM

Yes, its in the same row as the edit and quote buttons which are already in the replies and replaces where an image would be anyways in both postbits (and no one has ever complained about the "installed" image before).. :p

Yeah, I was just about to say roms. Sarcasm shouldn't be thrown to members who make suggestions that's exactly how my suggestions were met when i first joined. You did a good thing editing your post.

Suggestions should be welcomed and if the implementations need refined it should be just as warmly welcomed without the sarcasm.

Paul M 01-13-2009 09:56 PM

The feature has been added, no further changes to it are planned.

Some people are never happy of course, but we can live with that. :)

Shelley_c 01-13-2009 10:17 PM

viper357 06-04-2009 10:22 AM

Is this a mod that we can install on our forums? I have searched everywhere but can't find any mods relating to this, thanks.

Paul M 06-04-2009 01:00 PM

To what exactly are you referring ?

tipoboy 06-04-2009 01:04 PM

i think she's reffering to having developer or installed in the post

viper357 06-04-2009 01:24 PM

Sorry Paul, the word Developer that is placed below the signature in certain members posts.

This image - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/06/33.gif

Is there an addon that does this?

Thanks.

Paul M 06-04-2009 03:19 PM

Nope, sorry, its custom vb.org code.

lasto 06-05-2009 05:45 PM

not exactly hard to do is it - just use an If statement to show a gfx if such a person in a certain usergroup.

Paul M 06-06-2009 08:57 AM

Well its userid based, not usergroup, but pretty much yes.
