Wow a lot of forum pages :D

I just wanted to know if you could just upload a piece of html code to the 3.5.x header template and would it work like it does in 3.8.x

Reason being is i've had a couple of people say to me its a shame my tabs don't work with 3.5.x ( See here https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=200686)

But its only basic HTML and so easy to just paste to the Header Template, Just wanted to be sure that it would work, before finally adding it as a stable 3.5 hack.

Don't want anyone to mess up their 3.5.x if its not usable.

It depends on what you are adding, and what (if any) PHP code is running.

Just wanted to know Dismounted, if my menu tabs hack would work, like it does in 3.6.x upwords, I wasn't 100% sure if the 3.5 Header Template setup was slightly different to the newer versons??

Its just that i had a a few emails from members using 3.5 saying its a shame it won't work for them, I just really need to know before i offer it to them, Its very basic HTML, nothing specatular ;)

Dismounted 01-07-2009 05:43 AM

If it is just HTML (no conditionals, etc.), then it should work.

UKBusinessLive 01-07-2009 04:15 PM

Thanks, I'll add it to the 3.5 template edit forum now, Still mustn't forget the hundreds of members using 3.5 :D

You can download 3.5 from member area and install in localhost or in testvb folder.

Thanks :D, but as its only basic html, it should work in the header as dismounted pointed out, so i'm happy with that. ;)

3.5 is (nearly) at end-of-life. So people still using it should upgrade if possible.

Actually, end-of-life for 3.5 was last April.

Dismounted 01-08-2009 03:02 AM

Hmm - I've always thought the last three branches were supported. I guess not. (I went and dug for the EOL thread.)

People will stick with 3.5 and not upgrade though. Alot of work goes into getting your forum how you want (with regard to templates etc.). I myself run 3.7 but can't ever see me upgrading to 3.8. Really don't see the extra features of any benefit to me or my members. So for the work involved i'll stick it out with 3.7

When vB 4 goes gold i may upgrade who knows until i see it. But my gut feeling is i won't bother.

Sorry bit off topic there.

I can see myself sticking with 3.7.3 on my main forum until something like 4.2:D

UKBusinessLive 01-08-2009 05:28 PM

Like Punchbowl, I'm still using 3.7.3, and i guess its gonna take me a while before i upgrade.

I don't know what it is, I don't think i'm worried about upgrading, its just that i'm happy with what i've got so far, until theres an improvement that justifies all the hassle of an upgrade, then i'll hang back for a while
In a few years time Ver.5.0.0 will be out so whats the rush :D

Dismounted 01-09-2009 04:00 AM

I think a lot of people are underestimating vBulletin 4 just because it is not the full rewrite that was promised. I personally believe that the devs will pull out something great, and a lot of things inside the software will change.
