You may have to use tools.php to reset your access (although, the original symptoms sound very weird - I wonder if you have been hacked).

1. Download a copy of the vBulletin zip file from vBulletin.com (if you don't already have it).
2. Once you have done so, extract the contents and navigate to the do_not_upload folder, from this folder select the file named tools.php and upload this to your /admincp/ directory on your board (via. FTP).
3. Type in the path to the file in your address bar, e.g. http://www.yourboard.com/forums/admincp/tools.php
4. Enter the details required.
5. You will then be presented with a list of options, you'll need to look for one which says 'Reset Admin Access' and follow the on screen instructions.

Once this has been done, remove tools.php from your AdminCP folder.

I tried to login with my old password but it doesnt work

--------------- Added [DATE]1231012254[/DATE] at [TIME]1231012254[/TIME] ---------------

Ok, i tried to login with another old password and im in !!!

Thanks for the help. I hope this was just a bug and i wasnt hacked
Is there a way to check if i was or still am?

Ack!!! You would think three cups of coffee should have woken me up!!!

I think what you need to do is create a new user. Then do the Reset Admin Access for this new user. Then you should be able to login to the admin panel and change the email addy for your admin (and the password). If you can't change it, it may be because you have the admin set to be unalterable in the config.php file, so you may have to change that also.

tiekie 01-03-2009 07:57 PM

Guess what .... I cant login again. I tried to reset the admin and i used all the passwords i could think of but it doesnt work

I can see other members is loged in but it looks like its just with me

Here is the unalterable part from my config.php:

// ****** UNDELETABLE / UNALTERABLE USERS ******
// The users specified here will not be deletable or alterable from the control panel by any users.
// To specify more than one user, separate userids with commas.
$config['SpecialUsers']['undeletableusers'] = '';

So you created a new user, reset admin permission for him with tools.php, reset your normal admin password, got in, came back and then couldn't log in again?

Brother Malachi 01-03-2009 10:07 PM

This method is a bit hardcore but it will work:

Register a new account, enter a password of your choice.
Then log into phpmyadmin, on the left navigate to your VB database, and users table.
Click on "browse" from the top navigation and find that new account you just registered from the list.
Copy the encrypted data from the password field.
Then find your main admin account(userid should be 1).
Click edit and find the password field.
Paste the encrypted data you copied from the other field into this one.
Then go back and copy the data from the SALT field of the new account into the admin account.
Then proceed to login with the main admin account and the new password you just created.

Lynne 01-03-2009 10:19 PM

You forgot that you would also have to copy the salt field. But if the method I suggested of createing a new users and using tools.php is not working, then it seems there is something else going on here.

Brother Malachi 01-03-2009 10:27 PM

Really? I've done it w/o the salt field once and it worked for me. But anyway, that's just a back end method. You should only do it if Lynne's method doesn't work.

Thanks for the advice ... Im still working on iy to work 100% but sometimes im able to login and sometimes not

**** I made a stupid mistake and removed a code from my header_include file and must have removed more code because my sites template is show-up correctly... how can i restore only the header_inlude file to the original ?

I looked in the vbulletin folder but cant find it in there

Lynne 01-04-2009 02:48 PM

Can you get into your admin panel now to change the template? If so, you can go to edit the template and hit Show Default and see the default template. Or, View History > Compare to see thie difference between your template and the default.

just to add to the resolution here... if you are running more than one style, you can c/p the header_include code from another style and replace the one you are having the problem with.;)

Thanks .. This option worked for me

Lynn... The only way for me to get access is to login to my admin panel first and click on the top right corner 'Forum Home Page'

If i try to login from the front page it shows that i login details was correct and redirecting but after the redirect its just again at the front page and still no login

sounds like a cookie issue to me, clear cookies in your browser or you need to reset cookies with tools.php. experienced this issue more than once myself.

tiekie 01-05-2009 03:41 AM

I thought it could be a cookie problem and cleared to browser data and used the tools.php
to reset it but im still having the same problem.

I can see my members logged onto the forum ... is this meaning only im having this problem
because some member would let me know if they cant login

Thanks for the help dude
