Replacement variable to external image?
Does anyone know the proper code to link to an external image through replacement variable?
Thank you for your time! |
The images you are trying to replace probably account for such a minute amount of your bandwidth. Once a user browses to a page, the images get cached and don't get served up to the user again. If you are worried about bandwidth, I suggest you look at other bigger ticket items than little rank images and icons.

Do you know the proper HTML to use to link to an external image in the replacement variable field?

host the image and insert url into the variable |
Using the direct URL doesn't work.

I don't think either Imageshack or Photobucket allow hotlinking. You'll have to find someplace else to host the images.

It has nothing to do with ImageShack or Photobucket.

Your right Dismas.

I could have sworn at least one of them didn't allow hotlinking. Oh well, anyway.... why don't you post what you were using as the replacement variable and tell us what the result was and then perhaps we can help you fix it.

The image does appear but it has the additional code underneath it.
Any suggestions? |
That is because you are not putting the full image tab (from the first < to the > ) in to be replaced so the extra stuff is being spit out. Put the full image tag in there.
|
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you give me an example ?
|
Well, what does the image normally look like in the page source? Like this:
<img src="sss/yyy/image.jpg" alt="" border"0" /> Then that is what you need to put in the replacement manager. You never said what you put in as the code to be replaced. (You only showed us your replacement code.) |
O, I see what your saying.
|
And unfortunately I really can't answer that question. I think it's one of those things you need to evaluate yourself. See what your loads are like and what your bandwidth usage is like before making the change, and then evaluate it after making the change.
