French Press, Coffee

1 Attachment(s)
When I make coffee at home I perfer to use a French Press and to grind my own beans. If you haven't tried one I would recommend you do. I think the coffee tastes more flavorful.. :D

I've never tried one of these or had coffee from one. Is there really much of a difference?

Roms 12-31-2008 04:20 PM

Yeah, since the grounds sit in the water longer and keep extracting you can choose if you want a lighter or stronger flavor.

Coffee makers are better for large groups of people coming to get a cup. If you only want to make a few cups or use a more expensive bean I perfer a press.

For example... I have a coffee maker and fill a mug for the drive to work because I don't have a lot of time to use a press. But on the weekends it's nice to grind up some coffee beans, use a press, and have a nice breakfeast... ;)

I use a French Press regularly however I use it for environmental reasons to cut down waste and energy use. I don't have a small coffee maker so its difficult to make just one or two cups for my own use but I can make a cup at a time in the press without any problems. Don't even have the regular coffee maker out of the cupboard unless someone is coming to visit because no one else in the family drinks coffee.

I only drink coffee at work, we have a maker, and good coffee, and it's easy to make :)

I like buying a bag of gourmet beans and for one or two cups it's perfect. I have an expresso machine too but that's takes more time to make so I don't use it that often.. LOL

My daughter would love this. Do you know which brands or better bang for the buck?

My daughter and I were just in an Italian coffee shop to purchase a high end expresso maker and it was very much worth the money. We love it so far. After we got the hang of it and all gagets that go with it it was a breeze operate. Of course, mom always go to this particular coffee shop to enjoy the tall, dark and handsome evironment:D but this time it was to by my daughter's Christmas present;)..OMG I'm going to hell, I aksed them if they were hiring and got an application for my daughter! Isn't that just sick. :erm:

Their are some that keep the coffee warm, but they are all about the same as far a quaility (as long as they are glass and metal...).

Target has a great selection... Walmart has one or two..

UKBusinessLive 12-31-2008 08:55 PM

Just enough for a large mug first thing in the mornings, as i have to drive about 60 miles just to get to work :o

You can't beat real coffee :D

UKB, this one is a expresso thing, this make coffee different... we have one too.. :)

... acutally, i think i have all that can be used to make coffee... i drink so much coffee in a day that i need 3 or 4 different kind per day

Hi Nexialys, Happy New Year Mate :D

I know its more of an expresso thing, but it gives me the choice of what type of coffee to have.

I can have a strong expresso shot of rich, full bodied dark coffee with a silky layer of crema. The rich hazelnut brown crema is an indication of quality freshly ground beans. or i can make ....

Latte - a standard Espresso with hot milk topped by a small layer of silky milk foam. Usually served in a glass.

or

Cappuccino - a standard Espresso with silky foamed milk poured into it, topped with a dusting of chocolate powder.

Loads of different types all from one source :D

Here's my recipe for the perfect Cappuccino

Code:

1/2 coffee cup of water

2-3 level tbsp freshly ground coffee

1 1/2 coffee cups of skimmed milk

chocolate powder, to garnish

Method
Pour the water into the base of the stove-top espresso maker.

Then pack the freshly ground coffee into the filter.

Screw on the top and place on the hob over a medium heat.

While the espresso is brewing, heat the milk to just below boiling point.

Skimmed milk is the best to use as it holds its froth for longer because of the lower fat content.

Once the milk is hot, froth the milk. Place the milk in a largecafeti?re and pump the plunger 10-15 times until you have plenty of froth - approximately half froth and half milk.

Pour the espresso into warm cups, then, using a large spoon to hold back the froth, pour the milk into the cups.

Top with the froth, leaving a visible brown rim around the edge for an authentic look.

Sprinkle with the chocolate.

The best cappuccino should be one third espresso, one third milk and one third froth.

Enjoy ;)

We have had ours for years, infact, I have 5 of those in storage I wouldn't use anything else and your right, You cannot beat real coffee.

We also have a set (larger models ranging down to minute pots) we bought whilst visiting relatives in naples.

I?m waiting for the guy who says: ?Coffee is bad for health...?
Ooops I said it :p

Shelley_c 01-04-2009 02:58 PM

Rumours are going around that having an "e" in your name is bad for you health. so I guessing it's bad news for tea and coffee from the coffee machine.

I guessing? I'm reverting back to my italian roots.
