Hello,

is there any news script based on vbb ?

perhaps i should shortly tell you my problem..

i am on of the 2 founders of http://www.halocity.de ..it's a community & news page around halo.. currently we use newspro as a newsscript with commentary system. we would like to use the same passwords for the commentary system and for the vbb. ==> vbb is php and newspro is cgi.. none of us is such a damn god scripter to realise that ..

is there any possibiltiy ? or would this be a second forum, which isn't allowed by the license agreement of vbb ?

ICQ: 40938515
Mail: Johannes@lomnitz.net
IRC: #halocity @ quakenet.eu.org

thanks for your help!

You could try BFC_Weblog or PHPPortal - just search these forums for them.

It really is hard to find a great php newspubisher script or any news script designed with aesthetic and userfriendliness in mind! So here's something that might help you solve your problem.

After testing dozens of newscripts perl and php, Wmnews tops my list. http://wartamikael.org/PHPScripts/?product=WMNews

The reason why this script outperforms the rest is that it groups your news into categories via php include - unlike phpnuke which can only display news by the most recent post (a glorified blogger) and with phpnuke and most php portal systems, you can't use your existing template.

Other features of wmnews are full threaded comment system like a discussion board with admin reply capability, comment and rating system could be set on or off, top 10 popular news by viewed, refered, printed, commented, rated and by rating, archive, and advanced search feature.

Also, the "printer friendly" and "comment" buttons are located in the main story page, not after the title and headline like in phpnuke (it clutters the page) Only the archive button is located after the headlines, but in my modified version, I had it removed and placed next to the rest of the buttons in the main story page.

With permission from Wmnews creator, I had another programmer add access level features to wmnews, which is lacking in the original script. Also, the author's name is now displayed after the date and title of the article. A stand alone image upload script with was also added. Images can be displayed anywhere in the site via php include.

If you want a poll script with archive features and no annoying copyright notice, you can find one at http://www.phphead.com. Just add a poll admin link into the wmnews admin section and you have a better portal system.

Try the regular wmnews first, and contact me for the modified version at stberlin_com@hotmail.com

You may also want to check out PHPWebsite ... very nice.

It's available at http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu

I tossed together a few scripts that I use on my site, one to import NewsPro into vbulletin, and another to take threads from forumid=x and display them like newspro (with a handy dandy comments link, no less!)

Check out:

http://www.dirgotronix.net/forum/for...daysprune=1000

Example of the news script is at http://www.dirgotronix.net/ and the 'news forum' is http://www.dirgotronix.net/forum/for...?s=&forumid=25

Basically all I do is post a new thread to the news forum and it shows on the main page.

I tossed this together because I too tired of newspro, it's just too clunky, and after I got hacked because of newspro's insecurity, I decided that the forum would be much more difficult to compromise :)

Just follow the first link, I provided php source within my forums.

I've just added access level to my Wmnews. Also, I had vBulletin, PHPForum, and Postaci Webmail integrated, so users login only once to use each features of my website.

I also noticed your Newspro to vB script...very nice man...one quick question, will it work with vB 2.0.3? (BTW, this is awesome :) )

dirgotronix 08-05-2001 07:24 PM

I wrote it while I was using 2.0.1, and as long as the database structure for post and thread is the same, it should work a charm.

One thing: MAKE A BACKUP! I can't stress this enough! When I was making it, I screwed up all sorts of times, and at the state it's at now worked on my board. What you might do is like I did: edit the script for your preferences, backup your database, set up a testing board locally (glad I can get php/apache/mysql running on my windows box!) and install your backup on that test forum, and then run the script. Look through your posts to make sure they all corrospond (During testing I had thread titles that were to the wrong posts, and some threads with no postbit at all!) and if all goes well, run it on your public forum.

BACKUP!

:)

One quick thing:

After I ran the script, just for safety's sake I ran the counter update scripts and reindexed. I figure better safe than sorry!

ok, thanx
