The Skinny
A site I work on was using Zoints and with that, used the forumhome random profile feature. Well there were way to many problems with Zoints for me to even consider keeping it, but the owner of the forum liked the random profile feature, so I told him I would make one for the default vB profiles. So I did and figured I would release it here sense I couldn't find this mod on here anywhere.

What does it do?
This mod allows the admin to display a horizontal table on the forumhome, that displays a number of boxes, which the admin chooses, that contains a users name that is linked to their profile and their avatar scaled down to make the box look organized.

What can the admins do?
The admins can enable or disable the mod.
The admins can choose to list the users based on one of a couple things.

1. Most Recent(Latest registered members.)
2. Latest Visited(Latest members to visit the forum.)
3. Latest Activity(latest members to post on the forum.)
4. Random

The admins can restrict what usergroups can see the mod.
The admins can specify the width and height of the table cells.

Installation

• Upload the defaultavatar image file into your vBulletin default image folder. ( images/ )
• Import the product file in your admincp.

To show the table on the forum home.

• Edit your FORUMHOME template

Find:
Add Under:
To show the table under the navbar in each members profile.

• Edit your MEMBERINFO template

Find:
Add Under:
If you know what you are doing, you could possibly add this edit to almost anywhere.
Uninstall

• Delete the defaultavatar image from the vBulletin default image folder. ( images/ )
• Uninstall the product from your admincp.
• Find $prolist_shell in your template and delete it.

-Fixed it so avatars display from files or database

Thanks. Works great except I cannot get custom avatars to show. It will show the default avatar but not any custom ones. Maybe because I have 3.7 still.

Would be totally awesome if you could make this work with vbadvanced as a module.

It does work, you need the default avatar in the directory it looks for and named defaultavatar.gif.

Using 3.8 and the user avatars doesnt appears. Only the defaultavatar.jpg for profiles without avatar shows up. You know why?
Something wrong with the avatarurl path in the plugin code? We usually save our useravatars under another path than standard vB ... does this mod care about that?

This seems like an interesting mod. It could help with members interacting with each other by visiting each other's profiles more. My members don't spend enough time on each other's profiles it seems. This could help that.

But, with the issues of custom avatars not showing, I can't install this as is.

I have no probs with the default avatar as I explained. It's the custom avatars that are not showing up.

I moved avatars into the file system to see if it would help this mod work. Same prob. I'm using FF and custom avatars do not show up for me whether they are in the database or the file system.

Same problem here overlooked it.

I am also trying to have the profile list vertically in my sidebar but can only have 1 showing as I cannot get it go vertical. Any ideas?

Works perfect with 3.7 latest version. I installed so it's be ready when 3.8 comes out. Incorporated the code into my customized skin too, http://www.garageglamour.com/forums/ I also changed the size of the thumbs, as I don't want it to take up too much room at the top of my forum.

Any chance for a vbadvanced version of this, that gives the option vertical/horizontal too? Thanks, rg sends!

Looks very nicely done on your customized style. Are you experiencing any issues with the custom avatars not showing?

I am having problems with too many connections and since I'm not a web programmer, coder, etc., as I'm a photographer and author who tinkers with my websites, I don't know what I'm always doing. I do know that my too connections problem is not related to this mod as this was an issue that started after I made server moves and I'm looking into it. This mod rocks! Again, I'm no programmer/coder, just been learning as I go over the years. Cool stuff, I'm sure what takes me an hour to do an experienced coder can do in five minutes. Thanks! Online Status ??

Avatars are stored in /images/avatars/ and not /avatars/ as this hack uses..
Probably editing the plugin would help.. I will look into it.
If its working at this site http://www.garageglamour.com/forums/ it means it should work at any site.


EDIT: I have noticed its working fine if you select display of RANDOM avatars.. obviously the code of the plugin is wrong. Product : FH Profile List >> Profile List needs to be adjusted

This is great as I was just contacting a coder to make something like this for me but the only way I can use it is on my vba as a module. So if a module is made I will definitely use it!!

Something like this at the top of each member's profile page would be good to have. They could visit each other's profiles that way.

Can you use this same mod and adapt it to the profile page rather than the forum home?

For those that can't get it to work, if you go to admin>>Plugins & Products>>Plugin Manager (Not Manage Products)>>Profile List (found under "Product : FH Profile List">>Edit then change Hook Location from "forumhome_start" to "global_start"

Now a disclaimer: Do these steps at your own risk because I try things to make it work and it's working for me. I'm not a coder or a programmer only a wannbe though I do consider myself a decent web designer. I'm a photographer and published author. I've done about 80% of the work on my sites and I do it by trial and error. I've learned some simple lessons the hard way, make back-ups first (files on the server too, before you download and play), when it don't work, play with it, one step at a time.

If there is a coder that can verify that it's OK to change the hook-locations, please do, as it worked for a site I'm working on right now where I put it in the header, not the forum home template.

This is quite possibly one of the shittiest hacks. You offer no support and little explanation. You say admins can modify these settings, yet I have found it difficult to understand this
There is no panel in the admincp to do this, I looked through the code and it just looked complicated. I suggest if you're going to post something for people to install on their systems that you actually offer support

I would say the only problem with this modification is the custom avatars not working for quite a few people, as soon as that has been fixed I am sure many will love this hack :D

INTERRACIAL CUMSHOT

I must be confused, when you guys are talking custom avatars? I let my users upload their own avatars and have only one avatar as the default. What I personally need for this hack, is how to make it x rows by y columns. In other words, I want two rows of two as I'm using this on a new website I'm getting to ready to launch with a side column and I want this on this side column that is 200 pixels wide. Anyone know how I can do this, two by two? Thanks, rg sends!

I have attached an example of it both working and not working on our forum. On the right it is fine, on the left the users avatar does not show at all and only has the user name. The rows and columns would be great as an admin cp option for this mod. :D

I don't know what the problem is. I'm building a brand new forum area for one of my sites, installed the latest VB and this plugin, and all works just fine, this was a brand new install. Then on my older sites, it works just fine. All I did was follow the directions of the mod, worked on three sites so far, from VB 3.7 to VB 3.8. No clue since I didn't make this mod.

What I do want to know, as I'm no coder, is how to make it where I show profiles in rows of two, like two on the top row, two on the second row. Once I have my new site finished, where I need the 2x2 code, I'll show it to everyone, as right now I'm not ready to give the URL out as I want it completed. I will add, right now I have a row of two random profiles and it works just fine. Thanks, rg sends!

Ok, I finally ran into the problem you are talking about, but only because I merged users from an old forum into a new forum. The users from an the older forum, their avatars did not transfer, so their accounts are empty, but it doesn't pick up the "no avatar" photo. Not sure why, but obviously it's a DB problem and all I can do is encourage the user to update their avatars via mass email. Once they load the avatars, I'm hoping that's not a problem.

I also modified where I put the link to the random avatars, I have it on the side bar, upper right on this site, http://www.photonewschannel.com and it's working cool, other than that one minor problem. Again, before I merged the users from the old site, all was fine and all new users to the site, the mod is perfect. Just my thoughts, not sure how to correct it, but I can live with it for now. This isn't my mod, but I think it's well worth it because even if an avatar doesn't show up, the link to the user's profile does. Thanks, rg sends!
