Contraverse vBulletin Skin

Black and blue tech skin, 100% home-made images (excluding pre-existing vBulletins minor graphics of course!)

This skin was originally designed by myself as a phpBB3 template but I have ported over to vBulletin as a request for a friend. Figured I could include it here if anyone wants to use it.

blank psd's for logo and buttons included.

ChaosBurnt 10-27-2008 12:15 PM

Note to skin translators.
I permit translations of this skin povided that the translated skin is linked to within this very thread once it is available, please make me aware of your translation personally with a link to the release thread so I can add a link to it in this post to make access to others easier.
Thank you.

There is a French Translation of my skin by kahouett available
@http://forum.vbulletin-fr.org
Thanks to albibak for getting the French version organised.:)

Skin History:

Version 1.1 - correction to sub-forum icon file type.
Version 1.2 - Reworked much of the font attributes to improve upon aesthetics.
Version 1.3 - tidied up some code, removed unnecessary div's
Added missing unknown_gp.gif
Added new version of unknown.gif to match skin.
Version 1.0 B2 - skin updated to vBulletin 3.8.0 B2
Version 1.1 B2 - bug fixes - incorrect image type calls corrected.
Version 1.2 B2 - missing album images added and album template edited.
Version 1.3 B2 - Restructure of footer template to accommodate language chooser.

Updated to 3.8.0 BETA3

older versions removed.

I have more DARK skins available to members of my vB38Skin site, but my efforts are concentrated on Gothic/Horror/Occultism based skins on my site. I'm not so sure these will be wanted here so I wont post the Darker skins on this site, all my skins are FREE, this wont change. I could do with some people signing up to download the skins available on my own site to do testing of them if nothing else.:)

Hiya sidman, I followed your link, the icons:
forum_new.png
forum_old.png
are showing for me!

Are they the icons you're referring to?

basskiller 10-30-2008 04:04 AM

First, Great looking skin!!!

I'm having 2 problems
One with the header image set (fresh install and I even see this on your demo)
Secondly the footer
Both can be seen in the images attached.

Which browser are you using?
Works perfectly well in FF, IE, Safari and Opera!

g0dfather1984 10-30-2008 10:18 PM

Could I pay you or ask you to change the name of Contraverse to Sports Today Forum on the logo?

Nope, you cannot pay me to do this for you, but seeing as you have asked nicely I am willing to do it for you as a kindness.
Let me know if this suits your needs:

Yup Reverend!
The downloaded files were gif files, so corrected those in the stylevars!

The other thing is - at 800 X 600 pixels view - the main header goes out of whack to the right, although the rest of the page views fine!

The 800x600 view is not something I'm too concerned about, I know a small amount of people still use those ancient tiny VDU's but the majority of people have a screen width of at least 1024 these days.

The gif thing is news to me, can you give me more info so I can correct the download file please.

Cool, I get ya, sorted, new download to be upped momentarily, thanks for pointing that out:up:

sidman 10-31-2008 11:57 AM

In the social groups page the "Create a New Group", "Advanced Search" and "Subscribed Discussions" links seem to be displayed on a different font set. If the default font is verdana, these three seem to be more like Times New Roman.
you can see this here
Do you I think it's only me/my site?

Not your site sidman, I believe that font was tahoma, an over sight on my part, I have re-worked much of the font attributes and am about to upload version 1.2, this has the re-worked fonts, you'll see quite a few improvements ;)

sidman 10-31-2008 01:37 PM

Great!!:up:
More power to your templates!!

I don't have any groups setup on my test site, what is wrong with it, I don't actually know what I'm supposed to make out from your screenshot!

ChaosBurnt 11-03-2008 02:01 AM

I just created two social groups on my testing site, I don't see anything wrong, but I don't use groups so maybe I don't know what to look for!

Sorry, when I use the regular layout of VBulletin, the new attachment is what it looks like.

Ah right, it's the unknown.gif image you're looking to use, okay then, try renaming

images/contraverse/misc/no_avatar.png

to

images/contraverse/misc/unknown.png

Let me know if this is the thing!

ChaosBurnt 11-03-2008 06:11 AM

Answered that one for myself, just deleted my own avatar on my test site and the unknown.gif shows just fine, interesting one this!
Can you check your ftp and see if the unknown.gif is present.

Where are you exactly on your site when you get to that page, I am having trouble locating that page within the groups on my test site!

6.0

But I have found a way to fix it.. atleast on my end

whereas the original looks like this
Code:

<div  id="wrap">
<!-- logo -->
<a name="top"></a>
    <div id="logo_block">

        <div class="logo-l"></div>
        <div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div>
        <div class="logo-r"></div></div>

and I moved the "div" closing tag (in red) to here

Code:

<div  id="wrap">
<!-- logo -->
<a name="top"></a>
    <div id="logo_block">

        <div class="logo-l">
        <div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div> </div>
        <div class="logo-r"></div></div>

which seems to make it work for me ..

again..Thanks for the skin..Probably the best I've seen in quite some time..Great work!!!

One other question
which font are you using for the logo? is there somewhere I can find that easily?
Thanks again

ChaosBurnt 11-03-2008 02:23 PM

An unusual way around it, I cannot see this as being a good solution but if you're happy with it so be it. :)

I'll look at making the logo a float element, maybe that will resolve the problem properly for you.

It would be on the profile page. Sorry about the delayed response.

Okay, I think the problem is the use of the secondary div, which struck me as superfluous when I used it, but the day had been a long one, you know how it is. Finding the source of problems once the skin is finished is not so easy, but the secondary div still makes no sense to me, so let's try this.

Find this:
Code:

<div id="logo_block">

        <div class="logo-l"></div>
        <div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div>
        <div class="logo-r"></div>
    </div>

Replace with this:
Code:

<div id="logo_block">

        <div class="logo-l"></div>
        <div class="logo-m" style="text-align: center;"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div>
        <div class="logo-r"></div>
    </div>

Let me know how it goes ;)

Okay, I'm trying to track down the problem, some where I must have changed the value for unknown.gif but I'll be darned if I can find it.
I'll get back to you when I find the problem:)

Hmmm, my bad, I missed an image mate, no need for any changes to code as nothing is wrong, just upload the attached image to:

Code:

images/contraverse/misc/
That'll fix that right up;)

ChaosBurnt 11-04-2008 06:54 AM

I have to say basskiller, I'm lost for an answer, there is no reason what so ever for the code not to work I can think of.
Placing the end div where you say you have it will result in the div content being completely out of alignment.
I have searched extensively on the net for any other people reporting similar problems to the one you suggest but have yet to find anything the same, and most certainly have not found a solution. I could understand if the code was bad but the code I have used is perfectly correct, I'm at a loss mate :(

Just so you can see what I mean, this is the result of your notion in FF:

sidman 11-04-2008 11:24 AM

Reverend,
Can I convert the skin (colors only) to a white-theme? (basically make black white, and the other way around)?
The black tone isnt easy for everybody to appreciate..

For use on your own site sidman you are free to do with the skin as you see fit, I do ask that if you change my skins radically as you are suggesting that you add a bit in the footer stating you have altered the skin. ;)
