vb.org comic strip.....

Okay, I'm kinda throwing the boat out here and would ask how vb.org staff would feel about a vb.org comic strip? I was thinking of some humour added into the idea and possibly an 18 rated version for the older members of the communitys.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the idea? :D

Marco van Herwaarden 10-22-2008 09:28 AM

I don't see why you need permission from the staff to create a comic?

I would say create one and post it on your site.

Shelley_c 10-22-2008 09:33 AM

I wasn't asking for permission. I was thinking what you thought of the idea? I was thinking of maybe posting it here at vb.org in the community lounge?

Anyway, like i said, a bit of fun hey....

punchbowl 10-22-2008 09:41 AM

Every episode should end with a locked thread

PoetJA-1975 10-22-2008 09:44 AM

Hmmm -could possibly even have an infraction of the week episode. On tuesdays or wednesdays when the staff is too tired to give a damn...

How did I know this thread would turn into a barrage of sarcastic replies. I really don't know why half of you are still here. If you don't like what goes on, complain at vB.com, or keep your comments to yourself.

Marco van Herwaarden 10-22-2008 10:45 AM

Complaining at vB.com is not the way to make any changes on vB.org or to handle a complaint. Issues regarding vB.org should be addressed on vB.org.

It wasnt hard to guess really :)

Strangely, we guessed exactly the same ..... ;)

Shelley_c 10-22-2008 10:59 AM

I think the question is still valid? I haven't got control in what people say, my thread was quite genuine. Would a comic strip be welcomed here at the org? :)

nexialys 10-22-2008 11:12 AM

i like it actually... in the late 90's i was a hero of some comics for a university nearby... my avatar is what i looked like, as i was the one who draw my own face "for god sake"...

sure the sarcasms of the first posts would be fun to draw, because they are actual subjects on the site... but i think it would be cool to have a timeline of events about what arrived on the site since 2000...

and btw, the first answer from Marco was easy to plan, he always want to protect both sides of a debate, he do not want to discourage your efforts...

punchbowl 10-22-2008 11:17 AM

Please point out this "barrage of sarcastic replies"

This is the 11th post. 5 are by staff or ex-staff. 3 are by the thread starter and two are by other people. Neither of which are sarcastic. And since when has a barrage been two?

nexialys 10-22-2008 11:24 AM

can you just shut up the off-topic stuff and start posting about the real matters...

a COMIC STRIP... i like it... i want one, even if i'm the only hero in it

That's the only reason I viewed this thread. :D

So, Shelley, do you mean a comic strip as in about vBulletin itself? Where the heroic vBulletin coders fix ZOMG... a minor bug in the vB code and save the world!

Or about the people on vborg?

Paul M as the evil supervillain Satan, Marco as Hades (Greek god of the underworld), Danny as Osiris (Egyptian god of the underworld), Princeton as Anubis (early Egyptian ruler of the underworld)........ I would go on but you get the idea.

Then all the disrespectful troublemakers, I mean "superheroes", like erm.... well, we all know who you are, saving vborg and its members from the evil, EVIL staff?

Can't say I'd be interested in either.

nexialys 10-22-2008 12:28 PM

i can do all that...

Shelley_c 10-22-2008 01:44 PM

I was thinking of gathering a group of artists and writers as well as the prominent members of the community to brainstorm a little.

What will it be based on? well that all depends on how it all pans out and the people involved in the creation of the comic strip. vbulletin the software, staff, the community and it's members. The worlds your oyster, it can be anything you want it to be. The good thing about comics is that you can convey certain aspects and totally go wild with people, software the community the debates poeple have etc etc.

Let's just wait and hear the staff's thoughts are, and whether we could have a monthly comic pinned in the commuity area, and from that a group of enthusiastic members willing to dedicated some spare time into the comic and see where it all leads to from there.

I know what your thinking, what's her agenda? right? right? :D

It's a simple question which reqiures a simplied answer from staff either a yes, no, piss off shelley we don't welcome your suggestions.

TheLastSuperman 10-22-2008 02:08 PM

I think it would be neat to see :D

And remember, it's better to do first, then ask questions later else you get the ^ ;)

I edited the cartoon above - good for a few laughs for all you IE Haters... I could actually... Ah - nevermind -- I think tis a fantabulous idea SHELLEY - And for those of us who do appreciate a Community that thrives in satiating ALL of its Members with a bit of good-natured humor - It would be a blast getting our weekly laugh on via the ultimately FABULOUS designs of Shelley. I'm not much of a satirist - but I'd be happy to help with dialogue perhaps LOL --- I cannot promise that it will be clean dialogue, as I'm 'bout ghetto as they come...... online  ---- I can promise that it will be crisp and awe-inspiring :D

Great idea - It could actually be a feature on the mainpage eh? I can invision it - Everybody checkin the mainpage for this weeks vComic :) Kewl...

And then for those of us vBRenegades - Perhaps we can host a more risque version over at vBImageWorks Bwwwwwwahahahahhaaaaaa!

Ok Ms Shelley_C
I think that will really nice for the mental health of many here since I see too much stress, frictions and peril fights...
as a business I don't recommend it... it's a waste of time in your part, but I'm invite you to do it and I can cooperate, because laughs defuse many fights, and we got a a feedback in our social/interaction skills...

p.s. Besides I'm tired of Danny's dress joke... I've not seen it! :(
p.p.s. Only one question remains? who will be the writer since all I have seen is acid humor

Like I said, Let's just wait for the staff to reply. And besides, there's more than one artist that visits vb.org to help with the art work. They might not like the idea, and it would be futile to arrange further artists/writers to join and dedicate there time to no avail. :D

cheat-master30 10-22-2008 03:46 PM

I think it'd be a decent idea, at least for a good laugh. Although please, I'd really hate to see any more jokes regarding the long development cycle of vBulletin 4, if only because the comparison to Duke Nukem Forever has been done to death by now...

On the other hand... how many jokes could you honestly make about vBulletin? If it was say... about vBulletin.com you'd probably have exactly two possible episodes, one of vBullletin versus Invision and one of... some kind of technical problem.

Personally I have nothing against the idea, as long as its not used as another way to take digs at the site and its staff.

I think majority of the jokes would use that as base.;)

Digital Jedi 10-22-2008 06:44 PM

I do a comic on my site (however infrequent) based around a comic shop and TCG players. It got some marginally good reviews. Pwnd!

If I where to make a suggestion, I'd suggest taking a cue from Dave Chappelle. He had a skit on his show where he asked: What would the internet be like if it where an actual place that you visited? I think a great comic that would lend it self to good humor would be one that asks: What if vBulletin.com where an actual place that you could visit?

Just imagine what someone showing up as unlicensed would look like? What happens to a real person when his topic gets locked. Do trolls look like actual trolls? Is everyone's avatar is a patch or symbol on their t-shirts? Does the staff all dress like they do at Best Buy? Do Coders dress like the Geek Squad? I see some endless possibilities here.

Guest190829 10-22-2008 06:49 PM

Sorry, I personally don't think comics belong here, and for some reason I just have this sinking feeling in my gut that the strips would just turn out to be nonsensical agitprop that would increase friction here, not ease it.

as long as the Staff have the maturity to understand that we all here are 'NickNames' =Alter Egos of real persons... so u don't have to take it personally, is how the public perceives you...

My honest view? I don't have nothing against nobody... Forums must be the most popular sites and nevertheless they ARE NOT :( [since everybody can LEARN, improve, cooperate, integrate] but comic will be an ADD ON to our community :D

p.s. Imagine a Character of PoetJA always insulting ppl with nice words, should be funny :D... but in real life is not
p.p.s Or Nexialys posting on 100 boards at the same time?

Digital Jedi 10-22-2008 07:02 PM

You know, real characters don't have to be used. Everyone can simply be archetypes or stereotypes of internet users, admins, etc.

And there is my "Word of the Day" that I had to learn. :D Turns out that it is a very concise word & well used in this case.

iogames 10-22-2008 09:35 PM

lol they might as well stop their idea before it even starts, because everyone already knows how it will turn out within 3 episodes.

nexialys 10-22-2008 10:24 PM

i would bet 4 episodes...

Shelley_c 10-22-2008 10:28 PM

And how will it turn out dave? I almost feel I've been scammed and stoned before the olive branch is extended fully. Sure I guess i can be my usually negative self but the forum is in dire straits of a community needing pulling together instead of them feeling ripped-off, scammed etc.

IOGames, It's up to the community to involve themselves, I haven't took charge of the comic strip, so it's a case of, if you want to help then your free to join though a group of us will have to collaborate probably an im or something.

Anyway, still no word of the comic strip being allowed to be posted in the community area....

I knew the negativity wouldn't be far away.

Never nonsensical - But then again - you, looking from the Staff precipice would certainly understand foul politics gone awry. Just saying....

One curiously interesting episode could be where some Yahoo who generally lurks around in the paid requests section, answers a few posts that are posted by Staff Member (assuming Staff would ever post in that section - Hmmm... I've seen FLORIS post a few times requesting a team of workers - though he isn't considered vB.org staff right? Hmmm....) Anyway - the episode - The Lurking Scammer sets about scamming all of the Staff and takes the SCAMMED money to wallstreet which then caused the financial "crisis" in the US and nobody laughs... At all.... Because it's not funny.....

Some Black Chick in the tip top corner (me) Says OMFG!!!!!! ------> The end.

Hmmmm... One episode could be an interesting lament for that big JUGHEAD Obama LOL --erm... different story entirely...

Well - perhaps nonsensical is good. Especially when exposing a no good scammer. PLUS I think quite a few people could possibly giggle from the ridiculously HILARITY that ensues.... Yeah - I don't think it would be a good idea for me to write LOL --- I can only afford so many bogus infractions a month hmmmm....

Anyway - I feel empowered - I have been dothed King-Queen of Kill-em-with-Nice by our favorite IOGAMES:

Ha! I'm ALL about the TRUTH Baby :) Indeed - should be quite interesting... In fact - I was talking about the idea earlier with a Lovely young Chickadee - I said - If I were to write such a strip - every other word would be @$@#%@$! tehehehehehe

At anyrate - I think it's a good idea - Judging from this thread - I think a good percentage of vB.org Members would skip it - But mostly 99% would certainly understand (and appreciate) that it's a novel idea. And since we are of the online world - It's novel ideas that keep us from going completely insane.

Hmmm - speaking of novel ideas - what ever happened to the graphics tab suggestion that was being mulled over?

Jacquii.

nexialys 10-23-2008 12:43 AM

actually Roms, it's more like 10 threads...

anyway, i voted Obama on that one... (yet the Al Kaida asked the americans to vote for McCain because they think he is the best to lead another non-sense war in Afganistan)
