Spammers Not Welcome Message in Russian

What is it?
-----------
It displays a message image in Russian on the register.php page stating that "Spammers are not welcome here." I only created this modification after seeing a ton of spammers coming from the Russian Federation, and we have in place a lot of tools to stop these spammers from trying to join. The hope is that this message will prevent a lot of wasted time and resources for all involved. Enjoy!

Release history:
----------------
v1.0: 21 October 2008 - Initial release

V1.1: 22 October 2008 - Improved on the translation.
If you installed the v1.0, then please download the zip file again
and replace the original "no_spammers.png" on your server with the latest one.
In other words, to upgrade just follow step 1.

************
* STEP ONE *
************

Upload "no_spammers.png" to <forumroot>/images/misc

******************************
* STEP TWO (register_rules): *
******************************

Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Search in templates -> register_rules -> Edit

FIND (TOWARD THE VERY BOTTOM):
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HTML Code:

</label>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HTML Code:

<br /><br /><center><img src="images/misc/no_spammers.png"></center>

IT SHOULD LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS WHEN DONE:

HTML Code:

<div><label for="cb_rules_agree"><input type="checkbox" name="agree" id="cb_rules_agree" value="1" />
<strong><phrase 1="$vboptions[bbtitle]">$vbphrase[read_agree_abide_by_rules]</phrase></strong></label>
<br /><br /><center><img src="images/misc/no_spammers.png"></center></div>

Sure, Fungsten. I went into Google Translation to acquire it.

"Спамеры не приветствуем здесь." translates as "Spammers are not welcome here."

http://translate.google.com/translat...elcome%20here.

And then I re-translated the Cyrillic Russian back into English as a check.

I guess they hate everything we come up width to make life for them as hard as possible but i cannot see how something like this would be of any help as most spammers are automated robots they won't read or even see the message.Some spamgangs do use humans to pass any verification checks.There bot can "beep" when it needs assistance from a human

Off Topic of the mod, but On topic of these spammers:

Just wanted to let everyone know I have been using these blocklists and have cut almost all visits off from unwanted countries. Just stumbled onto the site. Hope you use it. You may want to sign up for the auto email changes to the lists.

I am in NO WAY affiliated with the site.

lol
"Спамеры не приветствуем здесь." - it`s wrong translation

"Спамеры здесь не приветствуются" - will be correctly

Thanks, Ljusya! I've changed the image file accordingly.

On paper this seems like a good enough idea, however....

It not like SpammerX is going to come to your site, see the message and suddenly get an attack of morals and leave.

nerofix 10-24-2008 06:53 PM

lol this is funny x)

30% from our community is russian, but we never had problems with russian spam. Our spam is 99% american. I think we are going to block America, this useless country :D

ogameclub 10-24-2008 07:50 PM

Bad idea. I like Russian.

Boosted Panda 10-24-2008 08:02 PM

how about chinese too!

glorify 10-25-2008 12:01 AM

There is a Chinese-Korean Blocklist, Exploited Servers Blocklist, and Nigerian Blocklist in addition to the Russian at that site.

What a great Idea! Installation took 3 seconds and looks great.

Can I have you're premission to juice up the graphic file with some harsh American metaphors?

Russian Spammers are awful human beings.

In Soviet Russia Spam Spams You.

Please feel free to alter the graphic to suit your particular needs. All people of good will are welcome at my board. It's just that the majority of my board's spammers are coming from the Russian Federation, and I don't like the idea of blocking whole countries. Whether the use of my modification helps prevent spam or not is certainly debatable, but at least the spammers are on notice.

By the way, I highly recommend this mod which blocks known spammers from registering:
vbStopForumSpam - known spammer lookup for new registrations.

And this mod which blocks bots based on how quickly they register:
Stop the Registration Bots
