What will you do as Moderator?

If u were promoted to Moderator at vB.org, what will be your first action? what do you think vB.org needs the most?

Note: Please don't judge current Moderators' actions that will cause this thread to be close... among other things :D

Lynne 10-11-2008 12:31 AM

My first action would be to move an out-of-place thread to the correct forum!

SALIMUS 10-11-2008 12:42 AM

i think that u understand the answer lol
just organise and keep clean the forum , and delete any spam like mine hehe
no offence.

Guest210212002 10-11-2008 01:53 AM

Nominate Lynne for admin. :)

iogames 10-11-2008 02:41 AM

Mmmh...

First I will raise the guidelines to release hacks:

- Well written/described tutorials
- Screenshots
- Demos

That will save thousands of back-and-forward Posts... ;)

p.s. and the 'I'm PMing the Author because I think I deserve special attention' :D

veenuisthebest 10-12-2008 02:40 PM

I think vb.org currently has a very small staff.

If I become a moderator:-

1. I'll choose 5 best people here as vb.org's Advisors so that work of Dismounted, Lynne and Marco (the current most helpful staff) can have some relaxation.
2. This would also motivate the other members and would bring a nice change to the community.
3. Clean up the forum, as Lynne said.

The main focus of this community is and should always be helping new forum owners with their problems rather than entertaining people.

--------------- Added [DATE]1223827024[/DATE] at [TIME]1223827024[/TIME] ---------------

4. It doesn't look good that everybody is a Coder/Designer here. And yes, its very easy to be one coz the worst mod here has over 5 installs which I think gives the rank of Coder to the author.

This limit should be increased to a minimum of Total 100 installs to get that rank and similarly for the rank of Designer.

cheat-master30 10-12-2008 04:12 PM

I'd just continue helping people, posting questions and articles and reviewing forums. Because hey, it seems a lot of people forget that moderator is not synonymous with administrator, and hence any ideas about reorganising vBulletin.org with a moderator position are a bit far fetched.

But seriously, I'd help people, ban those annoying spambots and their 'iphone sales' topics and send them to be IP banned and... that's it.

nexialys 10-12-2008 08:36 PM

hum, i would never be a moderator here...

but if someone vote for me to be admin, hum, i would close the site.... ROFL!

I nominate you for president of canada ;)

Brad 10-12-2008 09:54 PM

I'd respectfully decline the offer. :)

SEOvB 10-12-2008 10:34 PM

I'd lock this thread

iogames 10-12-2008 11:21 PM

:)
This thread gives the opportunity to throw some 'Constructive Criticism' without ramming the Staff, to those who got an adverse reaction, that show us who attacks without provocation :D

p.s. Which makes me wonder? ... by dishing others makes some ppl feel smarter?

Well, seriously, their first action should be getting themselves familiar with our coffee machine...it's pretty complicated.

I would buy on of those less complicated coffee machines from IKEA.

Get used to Danny's pink dresses is also very complicated...

though as i think of it, i was voted the best moderator of all time one day here, so i suppose having some great quotes is a must... learn english would be my first.

Yes, this is Very Important! I have ruined a few pots by accidentally pushing the red button too soon. :o

No way! This machine may be complicated, but the coffee is worth it!

My first post in this thread about how I'd move a thread to the correct forum, well that actually *was* my first action. Since then, I've actually taken care of a few spam threads also. Getting used to the 'rules' of a new site take a bit of time. I'm doing lots of observing to see the way things are dealt with. It's given me a new appreciation for what my new moderators go through when I add one.

Have you ever tasted the IKEA coffee? It is great. I am sure it would keep you awake for those long hours.

legionofangels 10-14-2008 02:05 AM

I'd resign.

I have no time for other responsibilities.

Kinneas 10-14-2008 07:46 AM

I'm run away scared and hide in a corner until it went away :(

Rapscallion 10-15-2008 07:04 AM

Coffee machine? My mods get secret decoder rings and a Frito dance welcome when they start.

Now that's class.

Lizard King 10-15-2008 08:50 AM

I dont have time to be a moderator here so i would decline same as Brad but if i was offered Marco's position the first thing i would do is to take Paul M's admin privilidges.

Shelley_c 10-15-2008 09:47 AM

The only agenda for anyone wanting to get on staff at vb.org is to get nearer to gaining a place at staff at vb.com.

I had this same thought as well, for once we see eye to eye.

But still I have no time for this, this is just when I need to detox off my own site.

As a long-term Brit, it's tea or death. Both at the same time is an interesting sensation.

Create an EMO filter hack so we don't have to hear about the other moderator's feelings and only the facts are posted.

Hehe, tea is good too. :) Marco is the big tea drinker...

Lizard King 10-15-2008 09:54 PM

Hopefully not Paul ;)

List 5 ways to make better coffee, hosted in better coffee cups complimented by a new coffee vendor machine to produce coffee cup cafe cappuccino beverages for the masses.

Sawa Dee SohL 10-20-2008 07:05 PM

I would go through and find all questions that have 0 replies and bump/answer them.

It pisses me off to see so many topics go to the 5th-6th page cause you can't bump your topic cause of the stupid Auto-Merge.

You can do that without moderator powers. ;)

Sawa Dee SohL 10-20-2008 07:21 PM

Sorry, it was kind of an add of for the members, and myself.

I'd bump my own help topics lol - It sucks to see them go to page 4+ , and still get the 'auto-merge' when you try to get help again.

punchbowl 10-20-2008 07:57 PM

I'd turn off the ability to lock threads.

Are you mocking Staff's desire to need premium coffee while moderating? Before frequenting this site, I used to only need one cup of coffee in the morning. Now, well, let's say it's a bit more... but, thankfully since getting on Staff, now I get the good stuff (when Jeremy remembers to keep the pots full)! ;)

I thought auto-merge only happened when under a certain time limit.

I second MrFlicks statement.... what was the question again?

Sawa Dee SohL 10-20-2008 08:07 PM

Numerous times I've posted after 24hrs, and still got auto-merge :(
