Replace BBCode with URL in quote

1 Attachment(s)
Product name:
Replace BBCode with URL in quote

Product description:
This product replaces BBCodes with URL tags in quotes. You, of course, decided which BBCodes get replaced in the Admin CP. Its main purpose is to stop people from (automatically) quoting images and, for example, embedded movies.

Product installation:
Just import the product and set the options under vBulletin options, that's all there is to it.

Version compatibility:
Has been tested on vBulletin 3.7.3. May or may not work with earlier versions.

Version history:
1.0.0 -- 09/18/2008
- Initial release

Drawbacks
Does not use phrases. Probably a bit confusing at first.

Good idea. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

karlm 09-19-2008 02:29 PM

I don't understand the point of this... couldn't an admin simply disable/edit BBCodes from the ACP rather than using a product to replace BBCodes?

Marco 09-19-2008 03:29 PM

This replaces BBCode in quotes, so people don't end up quoting stuff like images and embedded videos. ;)

I think this is just in quotes cases. :)

PS: great idea

karlm 09-19-2008 09:42 PM

ahh right, thanks for the elaboration :)

karlm 09-19-2008 09:45 PM

And yes, it is a good - an excellent idea... I've often pondered why it wasn't disabled by default. (within quotes).

thanks

Installed and confirmed working on 3.8.4 Great Job this has been a pet peeve of mine forever. Thanks for solving this annoying issue for me.

Very good, works on 3.7.0. maybe its possible to replace original posted images in quotes with thumbnails, and not with links only?

kingMOB 11-09-2010 11:09 PM

This mod works with vb 4?

BirdOPrey5 12-27-2010 12:38 AM

yes, working on 4.0.8 here and 3.8.6 and I must say this is a great mod, THANK YOU!!!

I spent hours trying to disable 1 single bb code in quotes then I found this one that does them all if I want!

Raptor 02-23-2011 03:07 AM

Works on 3.8.6 - shame it doesn't parse past posts and only new ones

thanks for the mod !

I was asked in a PM...

Quote:

What are your settings for this mod to disable for images and youtube videos or other vbulletin supported embeded videos?

Please share in that thread.

Thanks.
The basic answer is, I don't. My only setting on this mod is:
Code:

article|Embedded Article
Which is for a custom BB Code I run on my forum.

The videos aren't visible in quotes in my forum because that is a feature of AME 2.5 (Automatic Media Embedder Mod) available here on vBulletin.org. However AME 2.5 is only for vBulletin 3.8. There was a relatively feature poor upgrade attempted for 4.x but I think it no longer works in newer versions of 4.x. Digital Jedi I believe is working on a real/better 4.x upgrade but no idea how long before it will get released.

I just tested it with 4.x, it doesn't seem to work with the built in video code in 4.x.

Eagle Eyes 03-26-2011 10:50 PM

According to the example above, any idea how it could be used to disabled videos in quotes?

BirdOPrey5 03-26-2011 10:52 PM

I just edited my post, but I just tested it on 4.x, which I assume is what you are using.

It doesn't seem to work on the 4.x video tag. This mod was programmed long before 4.x was released.

Can I use this mod to change this

Code:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYJ20INbM7Q"]YouTube - ‪Bill O'Reilly Interviews Rapper Lupe Fiasco - 06/20/11‬‏[/ame]

To this:

Code:

[video=youtube;wYJ20INbM7Q]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYJ20INbM7Q[/video]

BirdOPrey5 06-29-2011 05:02 PM

no.

I'm surprised this plug-in isn't more popular, and rewritten for vB4. Nothing more annoying than posts that have quoted images and videos in them.

Edit: 4.x version is here
