I hate all these image remote linkers
 

And thieves. Just now I found like the twentieth site remote linking a category icon from my forum on their free hosted site, right after the last problem of finding a vBulletin powered forum that had stolen various people's images. Why can't they get their own images, or even host the dang things on their own server rather than using up the bandwidth of other sites?

I remember an instance of someone hotlinking many images on one of my styles (invisionfree days) I simply created a new style and made the status forum icons as desktops with each image 1280x 1084. for the buttons which they hotlinked I created some nasty black and white flashing images amongst other extreme stuff.

Hilarious. But yeah, I guess they are lazy and can't be bothered to upload. Afterall, they steal why not go whole hog. :D

The solution to hotlinking is creating a htaccess file with redirections.

or have a style so ugly nobody will link to its files...

(or have a style without images...)

Hotlink Protection with a redirect to some porn image should stop them.

Wayne Luke has the best solution. You should remember that if you change the size of the image to something el Mondo, the hit for the bandwidth consumption belongs to you so that really isn't a good idea but redirecting to a porn site is an elegant nearly cost free solution:D

I know this is quite an old topic, but wouldn't that just take away bandwidth from another, generally innocent site?

Upload an image to your own server and redirect all hotlinks to it. ;)

hot link protection is the only answer ;)

Ok, I've tried using this site to add hotlink protection, and I followed their directions, but I can't get it to work for me. I keep getting this message in my FTP:

550 Permission denied on server. You are restricted to your account.


Any ideas?:confused:

If i'm not wrong, there is a Hotlink protection option in cPanel as well. check it out !
