Hide the post title area and the default icon when there is no title

This modification hides the area where a post's title is shown if there is no title and the user hasn't chosen a post icon. I think it looks cleaner this way.

One of the little tweaks I've always wanted! Thanks for the release. :)

You're welcome. It's a really simple change, and could also be done with a template edit, but this way is easier for future upgrades. :)

Installed, thanks alot.

Hi,

good idea. But on my site the title field gets pre-filled with re: topic, so users will have to remove the title manually. Here on vb.org it`s different. Any ideas how to prevent that "Re: topic-tilte" to get inserted automatically?

thank you - all the best,
Sacha

This works with v3.6.4. Good hack.

KURTZ 08-27-2008 06:19 AM

I would prefer to leave it on, as it contributes to keyword density on your page, but anyway here it is..

vBulletin Options > Message Posting and Editing Options > Automatically Quote Post / Thread Title > NO

Val.

From what I gather, SE's don't like duplicate content. Wouldn't the same line posted over and over be considered duplicate content?

No, duplicate content really means duplicate pages (copy of a complete page) and it's not a copy of a single sentence or a keyword.

My claim still stands :)

Ok my english is not so good, but you get the idea.

This is a default vBulletin feature. No title, and with no default post icon, it won't show (without this mod)
Go to vBulletin Options > Thread Display Options (showthread) and remove what's in "Show Default Post Icon" :)

Thanks, I can't believe I never saw that! And obviously, there are others who didn't know that existed. I guess it's time to make things easier to find in the control panel.

Actually there's a slight difference. When you do it from the ACP, it also hides the title for the first post whereas if you use this xml file, it doesn't. Thanks so much for this great add on! :)
