Contact us Thread

This is my first Mod, so please go easy on me. :)

Information:
The idea for the mod came from various requests on the mod request section. I also liked the idea. So went through the process and compiled the codes that does the job. I am new to vB, and so not very familiar with the codes. So it is very simple and no option Mod. You have to manually change the ForumID in the plugin section. In future I hope to add a option in ACP so it becomes easier. For now, just Enjoy!

Update:
First major update is here. Now you can manage the forum ID from the ACP and can on or off the hack. And another update made. Now able to send the form as a PM. You can control the username from ACP and can use either Thread or PM or Both or None. :D

I was busy with my forum recently, so could not provide the Update sooner. But I think I can be spared. New features see a reply mail being sent to the mail sender and instead of username in the PM, it uses User ID for flexibility. But doing this, I lost the multiple PM send option. I think I need to work on that a bit. But for now here goes the latest development.

Features:
  • Submits the Contact us form as a Thread in a forum you specify. The body part of the thread is the exact message that you get in the mail.
  • Option in ACP to control forum id and hack on/off.
  • Option to PM the Form.
  • Sent a Email confirmation to sender.

Projected Addition: (future update)

Install instruction:
==> Import XML file (as product): AdminCP > Plugins & Products > Manage Products > [Add/Import Product]
==> Go to: AdminCP > vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options > Contact Us Thread Option and Change the options to your preference.

Upgrade:
==> Simply uninstall the product and reinstall. Uninstall is must, since there are some changes in Phrases.

Current Version:
1.2.0

Change Log:
1.0.0 - Initial Release.
1.1.0 - ACP integration.
1.1.2 - PM the Form to a staff. (then where is 1.1.1??? Simple. I don't like Nelson, 111 :D)
1.2.0 - Reply mail to sender.

Due to my work load, I could not check this version to the end limit. So minor bugs might pop up. I would like to see feedback so I can correct them.

If you want to send the mail in HTML format, then you can use my other Mod as well, HTML Emails

If you like this hack please click INSTALL.

First installed.

dadoc 08-01-2008 07:29 AM

It would be good if you could provide a screen shot
and in the description it does not really say what this mod does

I can kind of understand what it does but I was thinking that you would create a bit more interest for this mod if you could see it and explain it better

I am thinking of installing it but I need to see more

Thanks

basically when visitor contact you via the contact us page, instead of sending mail to your e-mail this mod will only send to a forum.

example: category name: oursite
your forums in the category: help, chat, ect

put the id of which forum you want the thread starting at ( help, chat forum )

get the forum id from Forums & Moderators - forum manager click on a forum it will show you the id.

thanks

Thanks Q-v-n-s-Q. I was about te give the same reply. Really appriciate your post. :)

Now, for some strange reason, I cannot visit my own Forum. The forum is up, everyone in the world can visit. But I can not, may be to my ISP problem. I am looking into it. So, strangely, this Mod is not yet installed on my server. So, can't provide the screen shot just now. Hope to add that very soon though.

BTW, there is no screenshot needed, I guess. :D This just creates a thread in a specific forum. So there you go.

avoid guest and member to view your page:

Forums & Moderators - Forum Permissions this will be better, because you don't want other peoples to see the ip address.

veenuisthebest 08-01-2008 10:02 AM

very nice updated :) just waiting for the pm addon, thanks

lstintxs100 08-01-2008 11:33 PM

Thanks. It still sends to my inbox but that is a good thing.

This way it sends it to a forum as well as emails me the information to archive.

good job.

Thanks for your interest.

It's simple. Just enter the names in the username box seperated by ';'. Like admin;shishir etc. It will sent to them as well. I'll update the Description text with the next update. Mail to the sender is almost done and on test now. Soon will update that.

dadoc 08-02-2008 08:31 AM

I have the same problem for the guests.... Is there a way to solve it?

But it is great plug-in. Thanks Shishir!! :)

Koroku 08-05-2008 11:40 PM

Instead of having to do a username for "User who should get the PM.", could you do UserID?

We occasionally change usernames and wouldn't want it to bork :s

Can I have a screenshot? Do you have your IP Logging off? Cause I tested on several sites and can't create the error. Please a bit more info.

Hi Shishir,

The new thread that is created doesn?t include the email adress that the sender puts on the contact us form.

The contact us has this fields:
  1. Your Name :
  2. Email Address :
  3. Subject
  4. Message:

Only the email adress does not appear in the thread.

But it is a great mod!!Nice Job!! :)

Shishir 08-07-2008 01:22 AM

Do you see the Email address in the body part of the mail that sends at the time of submitting. Cause it does just takes the Mail Message body part and sends it in the thread.

Shishir

Classico 08-07-2008 07:02 PM

Yes, in the mail that i receive it i see it but not in the tread.

But that is a detail... The mod is great! Thanks. :)

Shishir 08-12-2008 04:22 AM

So after a few days on recess, I have the new Update. Hope you like this one as well.

BTW, I intend to have some feedback, since this one is not tested to a high level, due to my pressure. :(

So then, enjoy the release.
Shishir

Momin 08-12-2008 04:28 AM

Hmm good one shishir,

Lets DL your last update.

Forum Lover 08-12-2008 05:23 AM

dinodonk 08-16-2008 04:02 AM

can you override these setting "Receive Email from Other Users" and "Allow Users to Email Other Members" so i can email sender using VB sendmessage.php

lazytown 08-28-2008 12:08 AM

Seems to work well - thanks!!! And the fact that it works with spam prevention makes it one notch above the "form hack."

Thanks for the inspiration. :D

realmr 09-01-2008 10:51 AM

what happens if the user replies to our posted reply ? Will it get posted on the same thread or will it go to our inbox ?

Shishir 09-01-2008 12:25 PM

Well, the Contact Us form is posted as a thread. So the next reply should be a Post in the same thread, I guess. :D

No, seriously, I guess you do not want to post the Contact Us in an open Forum, do you? I set that in my Admin Permitted section. So there is no chance of other posting. Anyway, it will be a Normal thread as soon as it is posted.

Shishir

Alfa1 09-01-2008 10:32 PM

So that would leave the conversation broken. Part of it would be in the thread, while the rest is in your email inbox. It would be awesome to get new emails in new posts, but without email integration it seems incomplete to me.

transparent 11-12-2008 08:03 AM

Excellent hack! Thank you:)

momo2 11-14-2008 12:34 PM

i have a huge forum, can i add id's 1,2,3 like that ? or only one Forum id can used ?

ps: i do not see it anywhere, i used a test id and did not see this hack option anywhere..

SoftWareRevue 04-22-2009 12:04 PM

Is this going to be portable to vB 3.8? (I have 3.6 and plan on warping straight to 3.8)

ragtek 04-22-2009 12:17 PM

If not, you could try https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=210866 ^^

SoftWareRevue 04-22-2009 02:38 PM

I actually looked at that one first, then followed your link to this thread. :)

Screenshots or more documentation would have helped yours. ;)
