FractalizeR: Show items, awaiting moderation in notifications area

What does it do?
This hack shows all items, that require moderation in a notifications area. Items are grouped by type:
  • Threads
  • Posts
  • Group messages
  • Visitor messages
  • Picture comments
  • Album pictures
  • Users
  • Calendar events

Clicking on a group redirects you to a moderation panel for that type of items.

You can also restrict, what usergroups can see notifications and what items you want to appear in notifications

Russian localization included.

How to install?

1. Install *.xml file via Admin Control Panel (Product management)

Files description:
  • product-fr_notifymoditems.xml - main product XML. English localization included.
  • vbulletin-language-ru.xml - russian localization. Import as a language overwritting russian.

Version history:
Code:

1.1.3 (07-08-2008)
  • VBDynamics (and several other addons) compatibility ensured (aproape)

  • Non-standard admincp and modcp directories are now respected (aproape)

1.1.2 (07-08-2008)
  • Links bug fixed in new features

1.1.1 (07-08-2008)
  • Path bug fixed.

1.1 (06-08-2008)
  • Added moderation items for calendar events, users and album pictures. Each item requires one (but very quick) additional query

  • Added an option to show/hide empty notifications (with 0 items).

  • Added an option to show only selected notifications

Your installation instructions describe unpacking and uploading into forum root - but all you posted was an .xml file. :p

I assume this was a typing error?

I'mma try this mod out :D It sounds very good.

Thank you!

djbaxter 07-25-2008 01:24 PM

Can you add option to display if count(s) are zero? Your example (image) doesn't show posts, only threads. It would be nice to have at least the option of seeing all of the types displayed so we know it's correctly installed.

Is that really needed? Just go to your offtopic, select any post, make Unapprove on them and rerfresh page.

burlesque 07-25-2008 02:16 PM

Will this work with events from the calendar too?

taxick 07-25-2008 02:16 PM

Thx for this! I have rely mis this in the forum

Well, I didn't think of that. :o

But even so, I'd still prefer to see:

Threads awaiting moderation = 0
Posts awaiting moderation = 0

Its ru not eu and the english one is fr - I assume it signifies "Fractalizer". :)

EagleNick 07-26-2008 12:55 AM

Adding the Album Pictures awaiting moderation would be really great.

Otherwise, fantastic mod! :D
This is something I've been griping about to vBulletin for a little while now:

There are five groups, not two. If you will have all zeros displayed, Notifications area will be spammed. I am going to add some more items like users, awaiting moderation for example and showing zeros will spam notifications even more.

Added file descriptions to mod description. Sorry for confusing.

Animparadise 07-26-2008 08:02 AM

can you add an option to remove one of these features from notifications?

PaylaX 07-26-2008 08:42 AM

Perfect job!

How would any of this "spam notifications"? Only admins and moderators see them, right?

youradhere4222 07-26-2008 10:55 AM

Yes! Thank you so much! I've needed this modification for a long time. :)

Ok. Planned.

EagleNick 07-26-2008 12:22 PM

For some reason, they all don't show up in "Your Notifications" unless the number is greater than 0.
For example, when I click "Your Notifications" I see "Private Messages - 0", "Unread Visitor Messages - 0", etc. however there is not "Moderated Threads", etc.
Is this normal behavior?

Alfa1 07-26-2008 04:51 PM

Sounds optimal to me. Why show a line of text to announce that there is nothing to announce?

EagleNick 07-26-2008 05:00 PM

I understand, however I would like to know if that's how it was designed to work or not. Either way, I don't care.

Alfa1 07-26-2008 05:41 PM

Is there any chance to get a notification for the PM moderation hack: moderate_pm.php?do=list

For the same reason the standard vBulletin notifications will say, for example, "Incoming visitor messages: 0", or when there are no notifications at all, "Private Messages: Unread 0".

Alfa1 07-26-2008 06:07 PM

Yes, I know that they do that and I was happy when a mod was shared on vb.org to correct that. You write "for the same reason, the standard vbulletin notifications say..." Could you please tell me what that reason that is? Because so far the standard notifications for zero messages, etc. do not make sense to me.

djbaxter 07-26-2008 06:12 PM

I suppose it's a matter of preference or familiarity. As a forum owner-administrator, I like being able, at a glance, to see that nothing needs my attention.

And from a psychological or human enginerring perspective, that information is conveyed more effectively and clearly by a notation saying "No messages" than the mere absence of a note saying there are messages.

Alfa1 07-27-2008 12:19 AM

Well to each their own, dear colleague. Its good that there are options in life to make everyone happy.

aproape 07-27-2008 07:31 PM

Hey there,

Just a quick note - this mod breaks the vbAdvanced Dynamics add-on - article module.

After enabling the mod, any article someone wants to see gives a bad/fatal MySQL error message because the variable entryid is not populated [actually it is emptied].

This created some huge problems on our site which is mainly article-driven and caused headaches to find the exact issue.

Disabling this mod has solved the problem right away.

Is there any way to fix this? Thanks..

Cheers,
aproape

FractalizeR 07-28-2008 10:04 AM

I will try to look. A bit later. Too much job these days.

farplane dragon 07-28-2008 04:20 PM

I feel the same way as djbaxter. It's a great mod, and I'm definitely adding it, but I would really love is there was an option like. "Display notifications if = 0" It would be a simply yes/no thing. It really wouldn't hurt anyone, since if you like seeing 0, you can, don't want to, just choose no. But anyway, great mod.

Koroku 07-29-2008 01:39 AM

Why not, instead of having a huge list of "___ needing Moderation: 0" just have one that appears when all = 0 that says "Items Needing Moderation: 0"

That way everyone is happy :)

*will install this later tonight*

I don't see such hack here. Please post a link

FractalizeR 08-06-2008 05:37 PM

Mod updated with new features (see history)

EagleNick 08-06-2008 09:30 PM

I think your update makes this hack 500% better.

However, now that I've upgraded, all of the links lead to my homepage rather than to the page to moderate the items.

Any idea as to why this is happening?

Also, can you attach the original version so I can downgrade until my current issue is resolved (I didn't save the original .xml file)

Aah, that's really a shame: They moved it to the graveyard.
This is a great hack. I wish that they would post what's the matter with it.

cynthetiq 08-07-2008 02:29 AM

Is it possible to add the linkback moderation queue for admins?

It would be complete...

fukdawrld 08-07-2008 03:51 AM

Nice mod...Wish it worked.
