Mark it! MARK IT!

I get these emails from time to time that remind me I've downloaded stuff I didn't "mark as installed"! GUESS what??? Before I mark anything as "installed", I'm gonna run it through and see if it's garbage or not.

My routine is to download the item, install it see if I like it, and if I do, I'll come back and mark as installed. If it's real good I'll come back and blow smoke about it after I've marked it and rated it.

It's annoying as hell to get these emails telling me to mark stuff as installed! If the guy that made the mod of whatever deserves praise, I'll give it to him. If he don't, then he needs to work harder on his coding or whatever it is.

I'm just guessing here but...

UserCP > Edit Options > Messaging & Notification > Download Notifications

Granted the description is pretty useless but I think that is the setting for them. Well I hope at least, I have a list of about 40 odd downloads. :erm:

Such an attitude!

Well since I'm civil I always express gratitude for just the intention behind the work

p.s. Now I understand why Obama said: 'They cling to guns...'

Would you like to see my collection? Obami and his mammi have already been invited :D

The notices do seem a little intimidating. Sometimes I download stuff and don't install, so I don't mark it as install. Since so many things are being sent to the Mod Graveyard these days, sometimes I download things that I'll never use.

I guess there's a fear that it won't be around if you need it in the future. By the time you use it, the mod might either 1) be in the Graveyard, 2) pulled by the author, or 3) just disappear.

If we didn't have a fear of mods disappearing, we wouldn't download as much, and then we would only download stuff we actually use. Then this wouldn't even be an issue.

The so called "reminders" are intimidating as heck. I am very grateful for this site and all they do but, I am of the opinion these so called "reminders" need to be limited to being sent out to members that really abuse the standard.

I think these guys that consistently put out good mods, changes, or whatever should be thanked more than they are and if I use their item I make sure to mark as installed. There is some great talent on this web site and if not for what I've used of theirs, my site would be even worse than it has been described :D (seems I have a different opinion on layouts)

As soon as I download.
- I make sure and understand the issues and operations before download.

*.org e-mail goes to a sub-folder in my inbox like all other newsletter and important information via. mail filters.

Repeating what Opersrty has said, if you don't like it - disable it.

User CP > Edit Options > Messaging & Notification > Download Notifications

Well, since what we are supposed to click on is marked as "installed," it only seems natural to actually click on it after whatever it is has already been installed (and shown to work) on your board.
