nice :)

Hornstar 07-08-2008 09:39 PM

This is excellent. What a great idea. I also like how it adds a separator as it looks a little ugly without it. Nice work.

Good Idea

Thx :)

good idea, thanks

This mod is brilliant - I'm using it to give new members a step-by-step guide to setting up their new accounts. eg:

Step 1: Click here to upload your avatar - DISMISS
Step 2: Click here to complete your profile - DISMISS
Step 3: Click here to upload your first gallery - DISMISS

I haven't got any access to a really large forum so I have not test it personally.

But there is not that much happening, no extra sql queries or anything.
Except when someone clicks the dismiss button of course (or un-dismiss notices)

So I don't think there would be any problems.

ok, but the notices used to work? and still show when you disable this mod?
Or is it a general problem with notices that are not related to my mod?

Either way, I am still not sure what the problem could be but some messed up templates.

Dingo14 07-13-2008 09:48 PM

no thats the problem it has not worked I have made a test notice made active but just will not show on forumhome, the actual box does not show I have seen this on another forum, I also tried this on a test board it doesn't show there either

Smitty 07-13-2008 11:17 PM

Doesn't show up in my UserCP. I do have Icons for UserCP Navbar 1.2.2 installed. I LOVE the idea. Options in the adminCP for what forums and/or what user groups to include/exclude would be interesting.

Did not find the phrase you entered in the instructions because of a couple of tabs in my USERCP_SHELL template, but it was obvious where the edit add needed to be.

I took a look at the Icons for UserCP Navbar mod.

You need to edit the template USERCP_SHELL_ICONS instead.
Don't think you will have any problem finding a good spot for it.
Fixing a nice looking icon you will also have to do yourself :)

Excellent!!! Great idea :D I have always thought that this should be a default option.

I also like the separator. I have been having to add a horizontal rule (<hr>) above and below each notice. Ugh.

Your mod is great :) :) :)

djr 07-14-2008 11:51 PM

Nice job, should have been a vB default!

EagleNick 07-17-2008 03:19 AM

Hmm.... It's not working.

There is no Dismiss button on Notices, nor is there anything new in the UserCP.

Sounds almost like it didn't install properly.
Hard to say anything without taking a look at your site.

You need to do a template edit to get the new 'Dismissed notices' options to show on the UserCP though.

Could it be possible to make the mod usergroup dependant?

So that only Premium members or moderators kan dismiss notices.

Updated to v1.1.0

Added usergroup settings - 'Can dismiss persistant notices'.
Set to 'Yes' as default for all usergroups.

How to upgrade:

Dowload and unpack the zip package in the first post above.

Copy all files in the upload directory to your forumroot.
* dismissnotice.php
* includes/xml/bitfield_sk_dismissnotices.xml

Import the file "product-sk_dismissnotices.xml".
Remember to select "Yes" for the "Allow Overwrite" option.

Adjust which usergroups that should be allowed to dismiss notices.

Is there a way to change the button text to hide rather than dismiss?

Change the global phrase 'dismissnotice'.

Does this add an 'is dismissable' when creating a notice? I'd like some notices to be dismissed at the members discretion, but I use notices for ads for guests, so obviously I wouldn't want them to be able to dismiss them =D

No, sorry.
Only way is to set the usergroup for guests so they can't dismiss any notices. (If you got v1.1.0)

I like the idea, and I actually tried to implement what you're asking for.
Haven't figure out a way to do it with available hooks though. And I didn't want to have file edits.

I woul also like to see this have a option for each notice "is dismissible"

Other than that Great hack... Thanks!

inciarco 09-22-2008 02:04 AM

Excellent Mod, Thank You Very Much For Sharing It.

I noticed that even if the Option is set to Yes for the Usergroups, you should get into one of them (Admin for Example) and Save the Options One Time for the "Dismiss" Button to be Shown. Before doing that no Button were Displayed but after doing that Buttons Started to be Displayed.

My Best Regards.

:)

Not very likely that I will take the time and do the file edits for this now.
It looked like that dismiss notices will be included in vBulletin 3.8.
Sorry.

I couldn't confirm this.
When I install the product the button shows without going in to the usergroup manager and make a save.

This mod is freakin great! Installed and its working perfectly. I was able to replace the submit button with a little red X/dismiss graphic to make it a bit prettier :)

@burlesque - can you explain a bit more how you use this mod as a step by step for new members? That sounds like a great idea. Do you setup different usergroups or base the notices on the number of posts (or some other criteria)

Yeah, since the dismiss function is built-in now with vBulletin 3.8 this mod isn't very useful any more.

I did however released a mod with the undismiss part for vB 3.8
