Profile Update - myspace/facebook layout
 

This is a pre-pre-release beta version. I'm only releasing this for people to use as a starter for their page. This may contain bugs, and may not work correctly.

Unfortunately I don't have enough spare time to support this, so please only install this if you're confident changing things. Any ideas or suggestions please let me know.

What does this do?
This will change your profile page to have a myspace/facebook style layout.

This creates new templates so should not alter anything.

This also uses standard css classes so should fit into any skin.

It should squeeze down to 800x600 (just) and stops expanding around 1000 wide so it doesn't look too warped.

Installation instructions
1 - Install product
2 - Create profile fields - gender, country.
3 - Edit template: memberinfo_block_mainprofile
3a - Change references of field21 to gender field
3b - Change references of field2 to location field
3c - Change references of field 22 to country field

Additional (optional) instructions
4 - Create 3 categories (as shown in attached photo)
4a Set "blurbs" location in category to: Main Column, First Tab
4b Set the other 2 categories location to: Blocks Column, After Ministats
4c Set Display Order as shown in attached photo
5 - Create profile fields for these categories (as shown in attached photo). You can use your own ones for these. Use myspace or facebook to get the list of values for each field.
6 - Modify MEMBERINFO_new and memberinfo_css_new to suit.

Please remember I'm unable to support this so please understand that installing this under the expectation of changing things yourself.

Also i've only been programming/using vBulletin for a month so there may be some obvious errors - please let me know if there are. I'm not usually a php coder.

Better yet update to 3.7. This will not work with anything less as this uses the enhanced profile system your version does not.

The version I updated is 3.7 compatible.

As you can see from my site above, it is fully functional on 3.7

a cool thing is, when every user can decide if the old or this profile style will be show

I am going to try a test install right now on the test board. I will post up the results in a little bit. Hopefully all turns out ok.

Can you make it so that the user can move the info/album blocks around just like on Facebook and also make it so that only their friends can view their profiles, like make an "Add as friend" button just like on Facebook. That would see so cool!

Suggestions:
Remove the top online thing next to the username, since it already shows if its online or not to the right of the location the avatar should be
Also, it doesn't seem to show the avatars at all in the profiles

Well the test install has went pretty well for this. It is looking pretty good. I just have a question real quick.

How can we include the Blogs, and friends list like the old hack. Here is a pic below.

What I am saying is I would like to have the friends list to look like the myspace one. With 8 members showing. As well as showing the pic. When you install this mod it lists them downward and does not look like it does on myspace.

The other is the blog links for each member. This is a key feature. It really gives people a reason to go to some ones profile. How would we add it to the profile so that is shows there blogs, also like the pic below. And yes i do understand we need the blog hack installed.

How did you get your URL box to show the special link? Like myspace.com/username? I have the username hack installed. I just need to know how to get it to show up in the profile now instead of the long link.

With blogs, i'm not sure how that currently works. I don't currently have that so unsure how to test it exactly. You should be able to get it to hook as a content tab in the old system and have it come up in this system. All the existing hooks for profiles should still be there. I was definitely going to have it in there once i got to that part.

With the friends list - that was the stage i was up to. Finding a nice way to get this part to work and display. Currently there isn't a dedicated "list user's friends" page in vbulletin which needs to be created first before i can iconise the lists. I also had the idea of adding a "top friends" list so a user can select which friends appear on their front page, but haven't planned the exact details of that part as yet.

This is a very early pre-release so doesn't have any finishing touches at all.

I have been messing with it here for about an hour now. Check out what I have thus far. I still have some editing to do to get to where I want it. But you will get the general idea.

I still need some one to tell me how to make the short profile url show up instead of the long one. Any ideas?

I now have permission from Psylenced to release my own version, so I will be updating this xml file asap and releasing it with new features installed :)

I do not know how hard this would be to implement but I thought I would ask anyways. How much work would it be to create a bulletins like on myspace? Between your friends? That would be the ultimate mod to go along with this install. I honestly think that is why people love myspace so much in the first place.

Its just a thought. I do not know what it would take to make it happen, but it would be a great addition. Mod of the Month type of addition for this new myspace hack, for sure!

Did anyone try with a "FIXED" skin? the fluid skins makes the profile page seems big, like it has extra empty spots on the side.

does any1 know how to add like vb code to this so they can add image to like the about me part?

I would love this to look like myspace too where the friends are just icons etc and blog blurbs!

Uhm, good!!! Is there a way to have html in bbcode to put images or slideshow or video in about me or other section?

Here is a list of four main things that I think would really set this mod off. Let me know what you can do with it. It would be great if we could keep each other updated as frequently as possible on this mod. So we know how you are doing. And we can keep suggesting things to you and beta testing them.

Here is the list.

1. Bulletin shared amongst friends.
2. Top Friends list.
3. And buttons where the contact info is. Like the real myspace. Add Buddy, Pm, etc.
4. And of course the better friends list. Mine is just temporary until you come up with a better way.

Well if you look at my demo, I have the MySpace buttons in there already.
