hmm, how in the world did "the best browser" get 15,000 improvements?

Guest210212002 06-17-2008 07:45 PM

In this version, if you have even one validation error it won't display your page at all, and instead direct you endlessly to W3.com while playing Coldplay in an unstoppable loop.

Why I don't wait for the developers to upgrade?

KURTZ 06-17-2008 08:49 PM

cause many times is only a code 'issue' (like the vB styles/hacks :D) ... so the add-on remains the same ... ;)

also i wanna provide to you another link:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o....installer.exe

this is for the 3.0 GP Nightly, the engine is updated every day, check-out mine:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008061706 GranParadiso/3.0pre ID:2008061706

meanwhile if you check yours (i mean the 3.0 Firefox) is stopped to 05/29/2008 ...

Jase2 06-17-2008 09:04 PM

Most of the add-ons have been updated to work with Firefox 3.

The 'memory leak' has been cut down drastically -- really good. In Firefox 2 I had to do a few little tricks in about:config to cut memory usage down. ;)

Overall, great performance! However, a lot of people, especially in the UK are/were having trouble connecting to the site for a good few hours, myself included.

anyway i wanna recommend to all user that has used onto the FF2 the extension FasterFox to rebuild a new profile ...

nexialys 06-17-2008 09:39 PM

i use FF 3.0b for ages... was a little bit slow with all the stuff for developpers

now with the release, 3Mb are dropped, that's a lot... ;)

iogames 06-17-2008 09:48 PM

How much is 'ages' in Canada?!?!?

nexialys 06-17-2008 11:30 PM

hum, maybe 3 months... or 4... but remember that on the internet, 6 months is a decade...

legionofangels 06-18-2008 02:31 AM

Dl'd it, tried it, something is wrong with the scrolling I'm noticing ONLY on my own site on my PNG transparent/semi-transparent skins. So I'm uninstalling and gonna go grab 2.0 again. It's driving me crazy and giving me a headache.

But yeah, since it was day before my bday I remembered the download day and helped out by downloading it.

LOL!

however, yes Nexia, i'm using 3.0beta/rc etc too (but i've used the Minefield/Nightly releases) these are a way better cause the issues are fixed daily ...

some new links about the 3.1 (still in alpha stage)

also some benchmarks:
SUNSPIDER
DROMATEO
ACID 3
ACID3 vs GECKO

i wanna tell you that the 3.0 scores 71 @ Acid3 but the 3.1 scores 79!

Hm. Maybe you should find the exact problem, and fix it. Not all of your site visitors are going to downgrade to older versions of browsers just because it scrolls slow.

That's a lazy move on your half, to uninstall and ignore what's wrong on your site. One can only assume it's on your end, as FF3 renders standards perfectly with the acid2 test.

I don't work for Mozilla Firefox. The problem is with there browser and has been an intermittent error over the years on certain releases as I did search the issue.

It doesn't scroll slow, it scrolls erratically like as I move up and down the forum it feels like it's jumpy and not smooth. I did do some tests with Smooth Scrolling, Auto Scrolling, and No additional scrolling options and none of them seemed to work.

Thanks but it's not me being lazy, the problem is with the browser, FF 2.0 worked fine and they had PNG compatibility, so there is no reason why it should be something wrong with my site. That makes no sense whatsoever.

The default style on our board is Sacrifice Sky, a PNG style, anyone is welcome to go view it themselves and see if they get the error. If not, it's either my FF settings in 3.0 which I have not modified since installing, or perhaps my pc.

KURTZ 06-18-2008 04:39 PM

Well thanks for checking.

Basically grab the scroll bar on the right side of your page and go up and down really quick and while you do that look at the forum categories and the lines, they'll start to blur or like "jump" it looks like.

Maybe it's my pc or processor, but again if the error isn't in FF, why would my PC be affected on version 3 and not on 2.

If no one else notices I'll do a hypercam video and let you see my own pc screen.

iogames 06-18-2008 05:30 PM

well my computer is still a mess! waiting for upgrades

This is because of your style. It also occurs in Opera 9.26 and IE8 Beta 1 (in IE7 emulation mode) using the Sacrifice Sky style. Which I am not sure why its marked as Firefox only since it has no discernable difference in rendering in any browser. The only browser that scrolls your style smoothly is Safari 3.0.

Jase2 06-18-2008 07:28 PM

legionofangels, being on your site, is like installing a new graphics card and not installing the drivers LOL.

Seriously, it needs to be changed somewhere...

KTBleeding 06-18-2008 08:10 PM

Anyways... this isn't about LOA's website, this is about FF3..

I gotta say how much I love the new location bar.

It's marked FF only because Opera and Safari are two of the lowest used browsers out there and we don't care at all on the compatibility of those two browsers. We did not design our forum with all browsers in mind, simply IE and FF.

It's also marked FF only because IE 7 cannot handle PNG as you very well know, so IE 8 IN IE 7 emulation mode is going to act like IE 7 and is going to scroll like a snail on that style. HOWEVER it scrolls/renders perfectly in Firefox 2.0.14. I know this because I only use FF unless I just want to see something in IE and this is the first time I've noticed it in FF 3. I don't understand why the PNG compatibility would have an issue in 3 and not version 2.

Oh really, and what would you suggest? Redesigning the whole 5 styles that were done in a PNG themed layout? I'm not going to do that, there are 5 gif styles as well so users can use those styles instead. Apparently I'll have to mark them FF 2.0 ONLY until the bug is fixed in 3.

PS > People, I'm noticing this on my gif styles too, not just the PNG ones.

Jase2 06-18-2008 09:15 PM

What bug? It's the same for me in IE and Opera.

Sorry, but attitude like that will only drive members away.

Oh well, back on topic!

LegionOfAngels, if you would like reviews on your site, please post in Community Reviews. Now let's get back on the topic of FF3.

I don't want a review, thanks.

I wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing the same problem with FF 3. - Of which they are.

It isn't attitude. It was a management design decision. WE are not designing our site based upon 5% of people who use those 2 browsers. It's the same thing with the screen resolutions, we did it for the most popular screen res size, not for every screen res out there. Like styles for each version of resolution. Ridiculous and a waste of time.

Your site has a pile of code errors that might be part of the problem. Start here. There's also a .swf loading, but I'm not seeing any flash. And your shoutbox is perpetually loading.

Disable your shoutbox and see if your scrolling error goes away.

/derail

/me still doesn't like FF
