and my host support say : its because my vbulletin script.not my host.
what should i do to fixed this?

--------------- Added [DATE]1213783750[/DATE] at [TIME]1213783750[/TIME] ---------------

my support say like this :

Quote:

Hello,

It appears we were disconnected from our phone call.

Everything is running on your server. The error messages are normal and
indications that the server is continuing to run even though it is being taxed
severely by the software.

Thank you, I am still monitoring it.
but problem never solved.

Dismounted 06-18-2008 09:33 AM

It means your server cannot handle the load you are putting on it.

Marco van Herwaarden 06-18-2008 09:46 AM

When this happens, check the uptime of the mysql server.

geevest.com 06-19-2008 12:05 AM

im realy tired about this for 3months.my issue never fixed :(
my host support say :

Quote:

Hello again,

Thank you for verifying.

Your my.cnf file, which controls a lot of optimization settings for MySQL,
seems to match all but one of our recommended settings, for your type of
hardware. Originally, one of our monitoring techs lowered your max_connections
from 1500 to 500, but I've just noticed that wait_timeout is 28800 rather than
the suggested 30. You're welcome to have any settings you'd like, but this
difference will keep a lot of MySQL connections open if VB isn't coded to
close connections once it's finished with it's query.

I found that some of your forum tables are damaged which can cause extra
resources needed by MySQL to process the request. I'd like to stop MySQL, back
up the DB, and run a repair. The process shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.
When would be a good time to do this?

Aside from these minor corrections, I'm seeing no reasons why the server would
be responsible for the high load you're experiencing. In the midst of typing
this response, several php procs for user 'zhazha' were spawned from
/home/zhazha/public_html/forum/showtread.php and forumdisplay.php. After
killing the procs, your load went from 23 down to 4.15.

A majority of your HTTP connections are from Indonesian IPs, but none of them
have an odd number of connections. This leads me to believe your current
hardware and/or VBulletin isn't capable of handling your load demands. Because
I don't believe the above mentioned fixes won't make a large difference, you
may want to consider adding more memory, at the very least. Thanks!
Quote:

Hello again,

I'm afraid that's something I can't promise. The problem is that your server
isn't handling the load very well, the load is either from the number of
connections, VB not handling so many requests at once, or a combination of the
two. It's possible you may need a better hardware upgrade if you want to
continue to handle this amount of traffic, or adding another GB or two may be
all you need. I'd recommend addressing my earlier suggestions before making
any hardware-related changes, however.

Thanks!
i take dedicated server for this.
so until now my issue never fixed.what should i do for this friend?
i really need ur help for this.
well thank you very much,i hope my problem solved in here.

Dismounted 06-19-2008 07:19 AM

vBulletin can handle many, many users at once. It is most likely that your server is being hammered with requests. Run the command top in SSH and see which process is the first.

geevest.com 06-20-2008 07:40 AM

until now i get database error in my site :

im very sorry bout this sir,but i dont know what should i do to make my forum normal again.
until now my host support never solved my problem.im stressfull about this.

Videx 06-21-2008 12:49 AM

It sounds like your host is offering a lot of help, but the problem appears to be in your software. Maybe a corrupt modification.

You can try disabling all your mods and adding them back one by one.

But, like Dismounted just said, there's no point in asking for help here if you're going to ignore the replies. You've been given three suggestions now and you need to try all of them and report back.

If you're not familiar with vbulletin I believe paid help is available somewhere around here.

geevest.com 06-21-2008 04:55 AM

okay no problem,i can pay for this but it must make my vbulletin normal again and not have an issue like this.
but my support host say i must upgrade the RAM.
before this my ram is 2GB.i take dedicated server.

how i can set for max_connection?
do u have suggestion sir?

btw my support say :

Quote:

Hello,

The settings you set it back to (650 for max_connections) will need at the
least 4 gigs of ram, you have 2 currently. If you insist on these settings you
will need to upgrade
Quote:

I am confused, I actually lowered max_connections yesterday, so far everything
looks stable still. If this is set to high it will when it gets busy go beyond
what is possible. This is when your site goes down, over and over again. Since
I made these changes have you had problems?
now im using dedicated server for 2GB ram.
but my host told me to upgrade my ram in to 4GB ram.
but the problem is that my members was online each day it is just for 5k uniq visitors.

my host support say :

Quote:

Hi,

After reading through several tickets and other admin notes, the problems can
be summarized thusly:

1) The vbulletin software is a resource hog. The number of connections that it
is trying to handle and pass to the server is extremely large.

2) The memory usage required by php on the site is also using an overabundance
of memory.

3) we have tried to optimize the existing software configuration to the nth
degree all without success.

4) The hardware configuration of the server itself is inadequate for your
current needs.

To solve these problems I would recommend the following:

A: Upgrade the server to at least a 4 core processor or better yet, 8 cores
would be optimal. You currently have a single duo core processor.

B: Upgrade the ram to at least 4 Gigs, 8 Gigs would be better. You currently
have 2 Gigs.

C: Consider optimizing the php software you are using for the site itself. The
number of concurrent connections are causing 'out of memory' errors which
causes the failed or dropped mysql connections causing downtime for the site.

D: Consider changing the software you are using for the bulletin board. The
current problem is that the board is spawning over 1100
/usr/bin/php/home/zhazha/public_html/forum/showthread.php processes.

To put it simply, you are trying to toast 100 slices of bread on a 4 slice
toaster. The answer to this issue is you need a bigger toaster. This may be
oversimplifying the issue but it is accurate. This is my opinion, but the
final decision is yours to make. We can improve via upgrade or continue to see
the same issues reappear again and again. Please let me know how you would
like to proceed.

Let me also take this time to say thank you for your time and patience while
we try and resolve this issue. I know the frustration level is high, but there
is a solution to this if we continue to work together to find it.

Regards,
David Singer

To answer your host's comments:

1) vBulletin is NOT a resource hog. It only opens as many connections to the server as people visiting.
2) You still have ~500MB of free memory....
3-4) Your load average is high, very high in fact. So your processor would be dragging you down as well.

Hello again,

There's nothing further we can do for you, regarding your vbulletin issues. As
Ian and myself have stated before, we've optimized your server's services and
have reviewed it's overall setup several times. We've gone above and beyond
our realm of support trying to keep your server stable, but your server is
flooded by connections and the demands from VB bring it offline.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you, but everything we
provide support for is working as expected. If the VB support staff isn't able
to provide an additional step for you, I'd recommend trying either new forum
software or reinstalling VB. I'm not trying to push you away from that
software, but our Support staff isn't trained on the ins and outs of VB, only
identifying what's causing an issue and how best to resolve it. We don't
provide support for 3rd party applications (i.e. anything outside of cPanel,
not directly related to the Operating System).

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Though we
can't resolve the VB problems, I can assure you that we're always here for
questions or problems with anything pertaining to cPanel.

i think the problem its because vbulletin.not my host.because im already upgrade in to 4GB ram.
and my issue always getting from vbulletin.

y2ksw 06-25-2008 06:23 PM

I was suggesting to copy the vBulletin database to a fresh install just to be sure there is no vbulletin issue. The server hardware seems ok to me, since the site is pretty fast under normal conditions. Now with 4 GB it is slightly better.

If a fresh copy fails, I suggest to move hosting and run a dedicated server under own regime. Of course, excellent computer knowledge is required ;)

legija 06-25-2008 06:57 PM

Apache should be compiled with PHP, and PHP should not run as CGI. Thats why it eats so much resources.

As i can see, PHP runs as separate module here. I remember once my hoster did this to my server due to some obscure bug , and server was rendered unusable in just few visits.

Dismounted 06-26-2008 07:12 AM

Again, vBulletin is NOT a resource hog. It only opens as many connections to the server as people visiting.

Look at the output of top, you have too many PHP forks running - this is killing the server, not the amount of RAM, but the CPU power required.

Dismounted 06-26-2008 12:37 PM

Reinstalling vBulletin is not going to do anything. Just look at the output of the top command.

I think you're really trying to help, so I'll post this and hope you don't take it the wrong way.

Your responses are assuming way too much knowledge. "you have too many PHP forks running" describes the result of a problem, but doesn't tell the poor guy what to do about it.

He's at the point now where he'll do anything you say, but now you've got to give him some sort of action to take. What should he do next to try to solve the problem?

y2ksw 06-26-2008 02:44 PM

No, I mean to make a fresh installation and use IMPEX to transport the forum data on a new board, in order to get rid of all plugins, style changes and eventual errors.

Just backing up and restoring would not help. It would just reproduce the same problems on the new installation ;)

It seems his host is not very cooperative and just tries to guess where the problem lays.

I try to fix the problem without touching the hardware and server settings, since this would require to change host.

There are some errors on style basis which cause the pages not to load correctly and may have side effects on certain scripts. These errors are present with and without plugins. It may also be, some of the plugins are outdated, but I doubt the problem is there.

After he upgraded to 4 GB RAM the problem continued. With permanent connections, the problem was less frequent, which points my finger to the MySQL settings.

I'm not sure if PHP run as CGI makes the big difference, since it should just run shortly an instance of PHP for each client. Of course it would show a long list of instances, if the operating system doesn't unload them quickly. At most there could be a short delay between connections. MySQL errors could occur, if the PHP instances don't unload quick enough while other client connections are incoming. I've no idea how Linux handles CGI, and how applications are scheduled.

PHP run as CGI is the usual way to keep processes apart and avoid to crash or block the whole server if one client instance crashes or blocks. However it is useful only in shared virtual servers.

yesterday my support host ask i must upgrade the ram for fixed my issue.
and now they need me to an upgrade my Host in to proffessional dedicated server. *Sigh

Without knowing how much traffic and server spec other people have, I can't
comment on why it doesn't happen to them.

If you can't get vbulletin to optimize the forum, I'm afraid you will need to
upgrade to more powerful server, not just upgrade the ram. Giving your past
ticket issues, I don't think I can do anything else to help the situation.

In order to fix the attachmentviews problem, you can try to add the following line to your config.php and see if this makes any difference:
PHP Code:

define('NOSHUTDOWNFUNC'true);

Well I don't know. My smallest server gets ten's of thousands hits per hour and still doesn't give up. The MySQL gone away error is usually a record size problem, and the server should time out at most = no reply = white or error page. For me it's a server setting issue. But of course, if you are on a shared environment - as it seems -changing the settings may be done only within certain limits.

I don't know if you solve the problems you have now switching to a "professional" solution of the same host. If I was you I'd look to get the best for my money, which isn't necessarily the cheapest. I would buy a good computer, giving the most attention to the hard disk quality, add some RAM, install an operating system, the latest Apache, MySQL and PHP and would go housing after a home test session. This way, you know what you have and if something doesn't work, you know how to fix it. It has a relatively high cost because of the computer, the OS and preliminary work, but pays off after a year, because the expense of housing is very small.

R1lover 08-03-2008 03:45 AM

That server should be more then fine for your traffic depending on your site and what add ons you have. If this is just for one vbulletin forum then your server or software configuration is way off.
