Countdown Timer in signature

Original Modification by Hellcat

Previous versions:
vB3.5.x "User Countdown Timer".
vB3.6.x "User Countdown Timer".

I have taken the original modification and simply edited templates to get it working with vB3.7.x

Note: I did not write the original modification so support of this release may be limited.

This little AddOn gives your users the option to show a custom countdown timer at the bottom of their signature.

Features:
  • Fully configurable via UserCP (see screenshot)
  • BB-Code can be used for eventname and overmessage
  • fully phrased/templated, nothing hardcoded and so fully customizable
  • leading days or hours with a value of "0" are not shown
    (so it shows "42minutes" rather then "0days 0hours 42minutes")
Installation:
Painless:
  • Upload "plugins_usercountd.php" to ".../forum/includes"
  • Upload "bitfield_hc_countdown.xml" to ".../forum/includes/xml"
  • Import the product .XML
You may also need to rebuild your languages after the install.
This can be done by going to:
AdminCP - Laguages & Phrases -> Language Manager -> Rebuild all languages

DONE
That's it.
No template edits, no nothing

Usergroup permission:
Go to -> AdminCP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> User Countdown Permissions

Members Usage:
Go into your UserCP -> Edit Options
On the very bottom you will find the options for the Countdown Timer.
Set it to whatever you like, if "Enable" is set to "ON" the timer will automatically be shown on the bottom of your sig, set to "OFF" will hide/disable the time display.

Please MARK AS INSTALLED & NOMINATE FOR MOTM :p

Enjoy. :)

Seems to be a problem with the text in the admin and user options. It is also not showing up as my sig even after settings have been set. Using vB 3.7.1 pl1

Howell 06-14-2008 05:59 PM

Try going to:

AdminCP - Laguages & Phrases -> Language Manager -> Rebuild all languages

See if that works.

That did the trick. Working fine now. Thanks. Had a request for countdown timers just a few days ago on our forum. This fits that need perfectly.

Howell 06-14-2008 06:18 PM

Could you please Mark as Installed

RedTrinity 06-15-2008 04:50 AM

Hi Howell,

I have just installed this - uploaded the files as instructed, uploaded the xml in the ACP, but this is the result I get... even after rebuilding all languages  Using 3.7.1.

There is also no fields for it at all in Usergroup permissions :S

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Did you install to forum/includes?

In admincp, did you goto uergroups, click example: admin and rebuild bitfields.

Perhaps in admincp, logout, and back in.

Thanks TimberFloorAU, turns out the files to upload to forum/includes didn't actually upload when they were supposed to, as I had other files from last night still queued in my FTP program  That'll do it!

All good now, working well :) Many thanks :D

Cheers Olly :D

I just had an idea for a request actually, maybe the option for the member to upload a small personal pic to add next to the countdown?

Styling would also be great, as Olly has suggested earlier :)

leannet 06-15-2008 09:21 AM

I keep getting this error

Quote:

Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in [path]/includes/plugins_usercountd.php on line 190

ramsayeg 06-15-2008 11:50 AM

hey, I have installed as you said but the Countdown table is empty at the UserCP:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/06/30.jpg

Is there any way to fix this? I'm using 3.7.1 patch level 1.

You will need to enable the mod in Usergroups.

Usergroup permission:
Go to -> AdminCP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> User Countdown Permissions

Bounce 06-15-2008 02:23 PM

Got my issue sorted :D

Howell 06-15-2008 02:39 PM

Oh yes hIBEES sorry forgot about your issue!

How did you fix your problem so I know for future?

ramsayeg 06-15-2008 03:32 PM

Howell, thanks for the quick answer. While I was able to see the countdown menu in the UserCP, there's still a weird error...

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/06/29.jpg

Can't seem to see any text in the menu.

Howell 06-15-2008 03:53 PM

You may also need to rebuild your languages after the install.

This can be done by going to:
AdminCP - Laguages & Phrases -> Language Manager -> Rebuild all languages

hdrmut 06-15-2008 05:17 PM

How the user can Edit conutdown ?

Howell 06-15-2008 05:25 PM

Follow as per instructions.

Thank you for your reply that helps alot :)

TimberFloorAu 06-16-2008 04:08 AM

Styling:

Font/Color/Icon

Perhaps a choice of icons, in a radio button list.

Such as a :
Birthday Cake
Xmas Tree
New baby
Aeroplane

Etc etc.

Be more personal then.

Our users love the countdown.

Can it be configured as a count up?

ie: countup to an event.

28 days 17 mins 32 seconds till we go on holiday

etc etc

Ozzy

How do u count up to an event?

Easy... so for example "X years, X months and X days since X event". A birthday, an anniversary, etc.

I think going by some of the requests made on here sofar, people are more keen on graphical countdown tickers as opposed to just a basic text timer.

Something similar to the ones i paid to have developed: http://www.theparentingsanctuary.com...rTPS/index.php

I dare say they are a LOT more complex, though... you can also get premade scripts of a similar nature on the web for a set pricetag.

No idea if anybody on VB would be willing to go to that extent or not to get a similar outcome....

msalman 06-16-2008 06:28 AM

there seems to be problem with counting down the exact time. I select 1 hour and 0 second and it says 33 minutes till your count down event.

One of our old sites, which we should revamp, tickertag.com has a good mix of counters.
Will try to see if we can hack this to a countup event to..

For some reason the double posting... it added a code to postbit_legacy althou this might have been from a previous install, I reverted postbit_legacy and that sorted it..

To fix the "Select" days Issue I had I edited the phrases countdown_days and countdown_hours which had the text of "select"

again this may have been from the previous install..

All is well now and I thank you for porting this to 3.7 as my users love it

Alexvanleeuwen 06-17-2008 01:01 PM

Strange everything works, but i cant see the timer in my sig??

ArnyVee 06-17-2008 01:20 PM

This would be perfect for our site! Folks counting down to a vacation to Disney especially.

An icon or some sort of small pic would be great. In my case I'd use a little Mickey or something. But, for birthdays we could use a little birthday cake as someone suggested.

I'm going to watch this mod as it will be something for me to add in the near future once (if) these little 'customizations' can happen. :D

Great job!

ArnyVee 06-17-2008 03:00 PM

I decided to test this mod out and found a quirky little thing. It wouldn't show unless you had something (I put a period) in the actual signature. If you had a blank signature, the countdown wouldn't show. Is that a bug?

No this isn't a bug. :)

vB doesn't show a signature block unless there is something set to show in the signature options. ;)

ArnyVee 06-17-2008 11:31 PM

Interesting. Then just something I have to make sure that my members understand. :D

Most of them have some sort of something in the sig, so I won't have many issues at all. Thanks Howell!
