Extra Profile Fields Page

Don't forget to hit INSTALL!

You can find the 3.6.x version of this hack here.

This product will add a new page to the User CP for easy editing of specially marked profile fields, that for one reason or another you would like to split off from the main list. NOTE: Any fields marked for this page will not be seen in the user's profile. A mod I'll release later on will create a tab for them, fully editable like the "About Me" tab.

After the product is FULLY installed, when a you want to move a profile field to the new page for easy editing:

1. Go to the AdminCP and edit the field as normal.
2. At the bottom in the Display Page area, you will see "Which page displays this option?" The last option should say Options: $vbphrase[extra_options].
3. Save!

Personally, I use this page for PC specs, but it can also be used for other specs as well (e.g. cars). With an ADDITIONAL product (e.g. NOT this one), I place these specs in a dropdown list under the user title in each user's post, as well as in their profile as an extra tab.

Here's some examples of how I use this mod (with the Add-On mod, Extra Profile Fields Tab, and a separate mod, Profile Fields in a Postbit Dropdown):
http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=39826
Note: the pics in that thread are from 3.6.x, but you'll get the idea.

# of plugins: 3
# of php page edits: 1 (admincp/profilefield.php)
# of new templates: 1 (page)
# of template edits: 1 (USERCP_SHELL)
# of new phrases: 3 Click here for details. Also look at the attached pictures to see where they show up.

If you have a 3.6.x version of this on your forum and are running 3.7.0, please uninstall it via running backwards through the old instructions, and then follow the Install instructions.

To Install:
1) Save the attached product-wired1_epfp.xml file.
2) Navigate to AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> [Add/Import Product]
3) Browse to wherever you saved the file.
4) Allow Overwrite -> Yes.
5) Import!
6) Follow the instructions for the manual edits (1 template edit, 1 PHP page edit)

The install process should only take 5 minutes at most.

Don't forget to hit INSTALL!

Support will only be given to people who have hit install.

Wired1 05-21-2008 06:43 AM

vB Phrases:

extra_options_updated - Simple message posted after you hit the SAVE button on the page.
edit_extra_options - Name of UserCP link
extra_options - Shows up in various places, mostly on the title of the extra page, as well as in the profile field selection area (see pics above for more info)

Version History:
3.0.0 - Initial Release
3.0.1 - Added header to edit page, cached templates, redirect now goes back to edit page

To uninstall a previous version (pre vB 3.7.0) of this mod, simply reverse the old instructions and edits!

Installed the 3.6 version on 3.7, but I can't quite remember what happened but I stopped using it. The extra profile fields still show up on the user profile (I think it's only viewable to admins) - any ideas on how to remove it?

If these extra fields can be on a seperate 'tab' when viewing their profile this will be an excellent addition to my board and will go straight back on! I look forward to seeing the images.

Cheers

1. Post in the CORRECT thread. This one is for the 3.7.x version, NOT the 3.6.x version.
2. Uninstall the 3.6.x version by following the instructions and edits in reverse.
3. Yes, they can be on a separate tab. It's a different product, so as to give people choices if they want to use it or not. I'll upload that one tomorrow though, didn't realize it's so late!
4. Also, please hit the INSTALL button!

The images are just the old ones pretty much :)

sorry, you haven't attached something.. where can I download it?

You may have been looking when it wasn't attached yet (AND there was a message at the top of the description stating I was attaching it).

Either way, it's there right now. Don't forget to hit INSTALL!

1. Yes, I realize this is for the 3.7 version but I thought I would ask anyway :)
3. Brilliant, I will hold fire until tomorrow
4. Will do once it is installed (tomorrow lol)

Cheers :)

If you were running this on 3.6.8 and just upgraded to vb3.7 with the default vb files, while waiting for a new version of this :

Then you can just uninstall the old version 2.x then install 3.0.0, then make the 1 template, and 1 profilefield.php edits.
Then change the two phrases (or three if you have the redirects turned on), to your liking :)

Installed! :)

neologan 05-21-2008 05:10 PM

is it just me or is there a little styling missing on the edit extra fields page in the user cp? i'm talking about the html which under user details would say:

<tr>
<td class="tcat">Edit Your Details<span class="normal"> username</span></td>
</tr>

it's missing for me under extra fields, did you forget it?.

Correct, because after you upgrade, you've replaced the files, and of course they have no manual edits.

Got a screenshot? Code's the same as before, but maybe they added something, or maybe it's been that way the whole time and no one's ever mentioned it :)

neologan 05-21-2008 06:39 PM

i don't have a screen shot as i added the code to the post template so it looks the same now.

but if you go here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/profile.php?do=editoptions you see the light gradient blue bar saying: Edit Options: username, this is the bar that is totally missing in the mod. not a big deal really :)

Wired1 05-21-2008 06:49 PM

What's the code? I'll add it tonight.

KHALIK 05-21-2008 08:12 PM

How do I manage to get it displayed on postbit?

Example - like this or smiliar (prefer - just one line and the rest under popup)

This is from neologan forum
http://forums.pureoverclock.com/showthread.php?t=479

I have installed this and can see the extra options under my UserCP, but it does not display under postbit.

any ideas why?

Jase2 05-21-2008 08:21 PM

Anything changed from the 3.6 version Wired ?

Big Boss 05-21-2008 08:31 PM

Thanks for the update! I've been waiting for this and it's finally here.

Because this mod has nothing to do with the dropdown in the postbit :) That's a different mod of mine, although that site you linked to either made their own or uses someone else's. They do indeed use my profile page mod though.

Functionality, nope. easier install though (less manual edits). Still working on something new for it, but it would hardly be a noticable change.

the actual table is

Code:

<tr>
<td class="tcat">[new phrase?]</td>
</tr>

in the page template above:

Code:

<tr>
        <td class="thead">$vbphrase[extra_options]</td>
</tr>
<tr>

but i think a new phrase for naming this would be best, too?

odeezie 05-21-2008 09:30 PM

I installed this, but im not seeing anything...Am I supposed to see an "Extra Options" link show up in my UserCP? :confused:

Wired1 05-21-2008 09:37 PM

Code:

<tr>
        <td class="tcat">$vbphrase[edit_extra_options]</td>
</tr>

just before
Code:

<tr>
        <td class="thead">$vbphrase[extra_options]</td>
</tr>

is sufficient I think. Now that I see the change, I'll probably wait till the next product version update to add that, as no one's mentioned it in years :)

If you followed the INSTRUCTIONS, yes. To be specific, you need to do the manual edits in the instruction file.

I did those edits and went back over them a second time to make sure they were right. I would love to download your other mod too so I can get that drop down menu in users postbits, but I am stuck right now....:(

Can you tell me exactly where I should see the Extra Options link? Maybe I am simply overlooking it....sorry

Wired1 05-21-2008 09:50 PM

I put pictures up which should explain everything (probably put up around when you were initially posting your question).

agreed!

odeezie 05-21-2008 10:34 PM

I figured out why it would not show up.

The Extra Options link in the userCP will not show up if you have the UserCP icons hack installed: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=170558

Once I disabled those icons, it worked just fine. Is there anyway I can make this work with the icons enabled?

SVTOA 05-22-2008 12:04 AM

Very well done!

/installed

His mod does much more than just add icons, it replaces the UserCP with its own template. You'd have to edit that new UserCP template.

BTW, to those of you who use this mod, and don't use the dropdown / tab mods, what DO you use it for? :)

My website allows users to share friend codes. I have a separate profile field for the DS and the Wii.

http://www.friendcodes.com/forums/members/1/corey.html (friend codes block)

http://www.friendcodes.com/forums/si...-complete.html (my friendcodes button under signature)

I have a custom page in the usercp that members use to submit the data.

The ability to add extra profile categories helps us allot, and is mostly what I use this mod for.

Wired1 05-22-2008 09:13 PM

Cool idea!

I used it to fix an issue with the "timeslips" hack I had installed way back when I had Vb3.0.
After upgrading to 3.7.0, I lost the "edit vehicle profile" function in that hack. (It would take a selected block of custom fields for a timeslip database and make it so the user could edit them as a group separate from the regular profile)
The sorting still worked, however the user had to sort thru all custom fields to change anything with the timeslip hack. Your hack allowed me to re-create the "Edit your Vehicle Profile Info" function (with working link to same) and I edited the phrases to suit my needs. So I guess I am using this as a "patch" for another hack and it was just what I needed....

I'll use the rest of it when you finish/release it....

verino 05-23-2008 02:04 AM

Hello.

Can this be used as a dropdown user info such as to show :

- member userid
- member additional usergroup
- other info I want to be shown

Thank's

Wired1 05-23-2008 02:36 AM

This mod is not a dropdown, so... NO. It's clearly only for PROFILE FIELDS. I have a different mod for dropdown (which I've gotta upload tonight, after some forum work).

MarkoXaser 05-23-2008 07:25 AM

i have installe this for my 3.7 but the problem is one....

dropdown menu don't show! why?
