Forum Category Icons on Forum Home

Here is a hack that will add icons to your forum categories on the forum home page.

History: I was the originator of this hack back in the vBulletin 1.x days and decided to revive this as I didn't see one here and I needed it for my new site.

vBulletin 4.x.x version here.

Please click install if you want support for this mod.

Enjoy!

Pretty nice hack. I prefer actually putting the icons in the Forum Descriptions.

Do they line up right? Please PM me how you do it.

ramco 05-26-2008 07:25 AM

and if you can make an option to put it in where it is now or in the Forum Descriptions according to the admin's desire. and that for each forum

X2 on that!

PGAmerica 05-28-2008 10:07 PM

I installed this mod and after configuring it in the vbulletin options, I went the the Forum Manager area. I do not see any options for adding the forum icons.

What am I missing?

Yes it is, look at the forum categories and there is an icon to the left of title.

You need to go to vbulletin options and set the path to the icon folder.

Not with this hack, this was only meant to show icons for each specific forum category.

Again, this only works for the category forum and no others.

Please make one for forums :D
For like each forum :)

PGAmerica 05-30-2008 08:36 PM

OK, I finally got around to adding icons after installing this mod. I added my first icon to a category. Lo and Behold, it added a new column on the right hand side of the forums and put the icon there.

Look at my screencap.

Ideas?

PGAmerica 05-30-2008 08:46 PM

OK, I figured out why the icon did not show up next to the forum category title? I did not make the change int he template for that style.

However, I still have the additional column on on the right with the category icon in it.
See my screen cap again.

Ideas?

You need to go back and check the template edit you made, it is in the wrong place.

PGAmerica 05-31-2008 03:21 PM

I figured it out. Somehow, I had the <if condition="$forum[forumiconimg]"><td class="tcat"><img src="$vboptions[forumiconimg_url]/$forum[forumiconimg]" alt="" border="0" /></td></if> line in there twice.

juleikaseven 06-01-2008 12:57 PM

My forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost
I have no:

Find:
<td class="tcat" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">6<else />5</if>">

and Now ?

PHP Code:

<div class="tcat"><span class="fright"><if condition="$childforumbits"><a href="#top" onclick="return toggle_collapse('forumbit_$forumid')"><img id="collapseimg_forumbit_$forumidsrc="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/collapse_tcat{$collapseimg_forumid}.gif" class="inlineimg" alt="" border="0" /></a></if><img src="{IF}/misc/tcat_right.gif" class="inlineimg" alt="" /></span><img src="{IF}/misc/tcat_left.gif" class="inlineimg" alt="" /><a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]">$forum[title]</a><if condition="$show['forumdescription']">: <span class="smallfont">$forum[description]</span></if></div>
<
table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<
tbody>
    <
tr align="center">
      <
td class="thead" width="4%">&nbsp;</td>
      <
td class="thead" width="56%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
      <
td class="thead" width="20%">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
      <
td class="thead" width="10%">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
      <
td class="thead" width="10%">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
      <if
condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">
      <
td class="thead">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
      </if>
    </
tr>
</
tbody>
<if
condition="$childforumbits">
<
tbody id="collapseobj_forumbit_$forumidstyle="{$collapseobj_forumid}">
$childforumbits
</tbody>
</if>
</
table>
<
div class="tfoot"><img src="{IF}/misc/tfoot_right.gif" class="fright" alt="" /><img src="{IF}/misc/tfoot_left.gif" alt="" /></div>
<
br />

PGAmerica 06-01-2008 05:42 PM

I placed mine after
Code:

      <if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">
      <
td class="thead">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
      </if>

Fantastic mod! WE use banners along the top of each categoryv and using this mod could stretch them right along the top of the category and lose the text, brilliant :).

Do however have a coupla problems, dunno if can help me here. Now I'm using the images instead of the text for the category headers, all the text (forum name & description) have been put at the top of my forums, do you know where I can edit this? Also it seems on insisting on putting the forum header above my first banner??

Have attached screenshots of the banners in action, plus what I'm talking about re the forum text.

Marked as installed and nominated for MOTM :).
