Haven't been here for almost three years!

Wow, how times change. vB.org looks great! I love the new system (not sure how new it is?) to organise the hacks. I remember back in 2002 when I started hacking (at age 15!) it was just a "Full Releases Forum"!

I don't recognise many/any people on the staff list either - I think I recognise Chris M on there.

It's good to see vB hacks still going strong. 235,000 members now! There must be a whole different type of hack out these days, considering vB's latest versions have incorporated so many features we made hacks for long ago.

I randomly remembered vB.org and thought I'd drop in and say hi. Luckily I remembered my password to login, heh.

I haven't actually run a forum for over three years now, which might explain my absence from this community, and also the lack of hacks released since 2003. It was great fun when I was involved though.

I wonder if someone can tell me the few biggest changes that have happened in the last four years? I feel like I've been in a vComa for 3-4 years.

Hello, stranger, welcome back. ;)

nexialys 04-17-2008 05:44 PM

not yet another guy who pops up this month ??

come on guys, make an announcement, something....

now, where's the Newspaper... n9ne !!!

WEBDosser 04-17-2008 06:04 PM

man.. sound like you been busy doing other stuff like me :) .. but always kept me VB licence up to date..

N9ne 04-17-2008 06:59 PM

I had two owned licenses back in the day. I still have my first ever owned license though, but it is in need of renewal! Doubtful I'll have the time to startup a forum anytime soon though.

Boofo: long time no err... newreply.php.

I've been away caught up in GCSEs, A-Levels and Degree-level exams! It's amazing how big changes in the real world can completely detach you from the virtual world.

I was offline for over a year myself due to RL things going on. Been there, done that. ;)

We've got better coffee here now. I make it myself. Ask the rest of the staff. Grade A Arabica beans.

Welcome back. :)

All the staff except me that is. :D LOL. But you seem to have left before I joined.

I remember your Licensed Users Hack for vB2. I used it for one of my old sites. 'Twas quality stuff. :)

lasto 04-18-2008 04:43 PM

well lets be honest - you aint missing much.
If u want the truth then here it is :

Hacks in the old days where a lot better and released virtually every day. There was always something good to mess around with or something you wanted to Install. Now you come here and you lucky if something is released in a week and if it is then its proberly a minor template edit disguised as a hack.Good decent hacks are far and inbetween these days.Things aint looking so good for vb at moment as getting hacks is nearly non - existent unless you willing to dip your hands in your pocket and pay for any hacks you need.People will disagree and say vb is going strong, well maybe the board software is but the hacks are certainly not.Go see how busy Paid requests section is.Should give you some indication of how things are going.

And welcome back m8 :)

Hi N9ne, good to see you again!

TECK 04-18-2008 07:55 PM

Welcome back, N9ne.

Dean C 04-18-2008 08:49 PM

Glad to hear your well N9ne. Have you finished your degree now?

N9ne 04-18-2008 09:15 PM

Dean: nope! Still another year and a term to go. Exams are a real pain.

lasto: 'back in the day' there was perhaps a core of some 15-20 coders who were releasing hacks often. They were often people who had a lot of time on their hands - people in their teens. I'm surprised that this hasn't continued; perhaps the opportunity to earn from hacking has led to its demise.

Probably, but there are still a few teen coders around here...

dont get me wrong im not calling the current coders but i want to make a point to how different it is today to how it was back then.
I could go on other board software and get hacks galore as there is a big userbase creating hacks for them so why has vb got it so wrong ?

Possibly, if you mean free software, then maybe because the coders for vBulletin know people will pay money for modifications and products while there might be a tendency to not buy for phpBB/SMF/MyBB addons because the core products are free? Then again, I don't notice too much of a shortage of mods. I mean, there's only one type of add on which is rare (cash and store mods) and one type which is pretty much non existant (RPG) that are major modifications.

Is it a secret oooo. The only reason my inbox is full is because I originally had a limit of 1000 when I was staff, but that changed to 500 when I left, so I've never got around to deleting them, as I tend to only keep important PMs anyway :(

AppleTalk.tv 05-28-2008 07:55 PM

Hey N9ne, it's "Speedy" here. I am sure you remember me... anyway I have two licances right now. One for AppleTalk.tv a Apple forum I am making, and then GamingAttic.com which has the main core group of members who used to post on SD!SYM. You should stop by and say hey. And if you want to get back in to the forums, (and see a few other faces) I am sure everyone would love to see your face.

Hope all is well dude.

Tons have changed. When they went from vB3 it changes. and then again a lot changed when it went to 3.5 and again at 3.6 and now 3.7.

So check it out.

and also if you wanna chat send me a PM with your AIM/MSN details.

Brandon Sheley 05-28-2008 08:04 PM

good to see you back N9ne :)
