do modders get royalties from vbulletin?

you know, i have noticed for a long time being a customer of vbulletin that as the forums age, ofcourse it gets enhanced. almost all of the enhancements that come with the new versions of vbulletin are mods coming directly from addons users here are submitting. i just wanna know if vbulletin pays the creators for the mods, and the rights to them or whatever, to implement them in the software that keeps coming out?

if modders are ok with this, then whatever, but we all know that jelsoft is making big bucks off this forum and the enhancements it has because of the submissions from the coders/hackers here that enhance it.

someone makes a captcha addon for registeration...its now included in vb 3.7x...
Advanced Warning System was made....now it came standard with similar template information in the forum...

even though it is small stuff, the ideas and the work comes from these coders and everyone throws around the mud with copyright this and that, but it looks like with each new version of vbulletin coming out, there is another added default mod that is from some user here who submitted it for free....

There is no royalties given to any coder. And, as far as I am aware, Jelsoft has never actually used code created by a third party developer in the core product.

You can donate to coders though. After all it is fair and it stimulates development.

Very true, although it doesn't happen as often as it should I think. It seems to be the "since I bought vBulletin I don't think I should have to pay again for mods" mentality instead of rewarding coders for their work.

That leads to me to an interesting thought:
A feature on vb.org that sends a messages a month after a mod was marked as installed. The message asks the forum member if he/she enjoys the mod (the answer can be posted in the relevant thread) and if he/she wants reward the modder by donating. (with donation link)

I will post more about this in a dedicated thread.

Jelsoft hardly ever looks at modifications. Most modifications are created after requests by other customers, the same requests also reach Jelsoft/vB.com. Obviously a modification can be developed much faster, and for a smaller target group, then introducing such a feature in standard vBulletin.

It has happened 1 or 2 times in the past that an author has been compensated for an idea, but those cases where exceptions. Also Jelsoft might be creating a solution based on the same request/idea but they will never re-use any code from a modification.

i dunno if they will re-use code, but another example is this mod here https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=124828 now available as option for vb 3.7x

vBulletin uses Akismet as their SPAM engine. They have not reused that code (which requests you to type an answer for a question).

But this is the start point of all. The idea. If you've the idea, then with the right programming team you can bring it to life. And as I know big software companies are mostly looking for those who can bring new ideas than programmers.

Actually, he meant the question and answer verification thing, not Akismet. NoSpam and the question and answer one in vBulletin he means are similar, and Akismet hasn't got anything to do with that modification.
