Avatar Size Problem...

Hi,

When I upload an avatar from my PC... even if its bigger that the size specified on my admin cp... it gets resized to the specified size, but when I put a link to an image from internet even if the size of the image is 1000x1000 it will stay like that on the avatar...

How can I fix this?

Thanks

Yea that's how it is I would believe. The same applies for signatures, If you upload, the size limit restricts images but if you link, you can put any size. :(

So there is no way to fix this?

are there any mods wich can fix it?

You could do <img src="path/to/avatar" width=xxx heigh=xxx> in the code. That will make it that size when you view it, although the person will still end up downloading the entire large avatar.

Is there an option to make a default avatar for everyone in a usergroup?

bump..

man Ive seen forums that have this issue fixed.... please help me someone!

Why don't you ask them cause they might know something we don't know even though I have a good feeling those forums do not allow linking, only uploading, but that's my guess.

Did you try putting in the width and height like I suggested? That will make the avatar the size you want.

I dont know where to do that :P

can you make a step by step list :D

thanks

Okay that can be a way to solve it... how can I disable linking... :D

Hmmm, not as straightforward as I thought. Here is the line in the postbit template:
HTML Code:

<if condition="$show['avatar']"><td class="alt2"><a href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]"><img src="$post[avatarurl]" $post[avwidth] $post[avheight] alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" /></a></td></if>
You would have to write a plugin, I think that would basically say if $post[avwidth] or $post[avheight] is greater than whatever-size-you-want, then to set it to whatever-size-you-want. Like, if you want it no bigger than 100, write a plugin that says if either of those two vars are greater than 100, set them to 100. It could result in an strange looking avatar (like if it was 200 x 100 and you set it to 100 x 100), but it would keep the appearance how you like it. Another way might be to use css to say the overflow is hidden. I think you could put a div around it with that sort of css and then any part of the avatar that is great than your size, would just be cut-off.

Thanks Lynne, but is there a way to disable the linking option?

I was looking for that for you but didn't find it with a quick look. I'd have to do some searching to see. Or, if anyone else knows, please post about it.

Why doesnt vbulletin fix this?

Lynne 04-09-2008 04:05 PM

Have you tried posting over at vb.com about this? vb.org is a modification site, it has nothing to do with the actual coding of the official vb software.

bloodychunk 04-09-2008 04:10 PM

Ok Ill try to get support there... but Its realy interesting, I remember that a friend of mine had this problem a year ago... and vbulletin still hasnt done nothing...

ups: theres nothing wrong with vb but with my custom skins :P

issue solved.

thanks

What's weird is, I was reading a few threads about this, and they upload the avatar from the external url just as the upload the avatar from your computer. So, both should have to go through the same filesize constraints as they are uploaded.
