How do you get people to post? We are an up and coming forum and we have a few core users, a good bit of registrations, but few, active members.

How do you get people to post? Any ideas?

contests, good topics, content...

you need a topic of the forums that generate good discussion.

something that a group is adamant about and wants to discuss. It's fine and dandy to have a forums for some purpose, but if it's not a highly discussed purpose, people aren't going to talk

You need to start threads yourself, and try to get your community joining in.

you can give nice idea which how? maybe present is?

contests:
poster of the day,
member of the week
Freebies like stickers, hats. gifts.

Good Topics:
Anytime you talk about race, religion, sex, you'll get posts. Not necessarily GOOD posts, but posts.

Content:
discussion doesn't happen if everyone agrees on something. Good forums are for varying view points. If you're forum is unable to drum up any content, it could just be there is no need for the forums.

You get 'disciplined' too often, even when u have a good grip on reality ;)

well, on my forums i allow open discussion as long as it's done in the right place. I have an 18+ section which is by request only so unless you've requested it, you dont see it in searches and can't navigate to it.

what this allows is thsoe who are willing to accept more responsibility in discussing the taboo topics to do so. I moderate that section a lot more lax and only step in when it gets over the top and people are getting butthurt.

I do not currently have a "poster of the week" as I did consider it. I dont have scripts to do it and was going to do it all by my decision of who i thought had the best posts. However I decided this was not the best thing in my particular forums as I don't want useless spam to fill the board.

I always post random questions and topics on my forums everyday that are condusive for discussion. I also have a few guys on the boards do the same thing so people have something to read and post if they want.

ok , here let me put it simple , GOOD RELATIVE CONTENT To your site...

if your site is about UFO's , post some good Backed FACTS about certain things, content is everything , it can make or destroy your site ...

If i go to your site and see something interesting ,i will read it , however... if its really peaks my desire to become part of the topic , i will post , how do you peak someone? , with some hardcore messages , messages that will make people stick to the topic and have something to say about it .
