3.6.9 upgrade

Are we allowed to ask for support here?

Jase2 04-01-2008 08:03 PM

Sure, as long as you are showing as licensed.

What is your question?

Regards Jason :)

Bradley_Wint 04-01-2008 08:18 PM

Durrr he must be licensed if he can post here. http://www.level2gaming.com/images/s.../final/lol.gif

Yes 3.6.9 is fully supported so feel free to post.

Jase2 04-01-2008 08:21 PM

Bradley, please don't be rude. Users can still post here, even if they are unlicensed, well so I believe.

Regards Jason :)

no i didn't intent to be rude *damn internetz failed me again* :o

you can't post in certain sections nor view code and quotes or downloads. i tried it back in the days when i didn't have vb.

Jase2 04-01-2008 08:56 PM

Ah, I see. Well, there is a few forums you can post in, even if you are unlicensed.

No problem! :)

Regards Jason :)

My question was that do you "drag the whole of the upload folder" to public_html and then press overwrite *all*?

and the config.php file, do you have to edit it manually adding the permissions and database names etc like when you first install vb and it asks you to edit the config file?

Jase2 04-01-2008 09:00 PM

Yes, but make sure you rename the upload folder to match your forums directory. The new config.php will be called config-sample.php, so you will need to edit that and input your database details, ect. Then you can delete your current config.php.

After, you will need to run www.yourdomain.com/install/upgrade.php and follow the upgrade script. Then you're done!

Regards Jason :)

(Somebody posted in this forum yesterday and had their thread closed because they were unlicensed, so Jason's statement was legit.)

Jase2 04-01-2008 09:04 PM

Only to mods/admins.

Thanks for clearing it up Lynne, I was almost 100% sure you could still post :)

Regards Jason :)

I thought you need a license to download mods etc... which I can do so therefore I am licensed.

Lynne 04-01-2008 09:08 PM

If you can download the mods, you are licensed. But, what we are saying is that *we* cannot see if you are licensed or not.

OH! Sorry + Thanks jase2 :) I certainly am, I got caught up in a twig, because I always thought that unlicensed members would have somethings such as "italic name".

Any ideas why this forum don't show that to everyone so it can prevent others from giving out support to members that are not meant to ask for it?

Dismounted 04-02-2008 05:13 AM

Only licensed members can post in this forum. Unlicensed members can only post in Pre-Sales and the Community Lounge. Some members become unlicensed after they post here, hence why some unlicensed members seemed to post.

Unless you are upgrading from pre-3.6.x there is no reason to create a new config.php file. Just do not rename the new one and keep using the old file.

Jase2 04-02-2008 10:32 AM

Oh, sorry. I've always input my details in the new config.php, then deleted my old one, since it has the vB version number at the top of the file. So, I can just leave the current config.php everytime I upgrade?

Regards Jason :)

Marco van Herwaarden 04-02-2008 11:06 AM

Yes you can keep the old config file within a major version. Even the 3.5 config file will still work on 3.7 (but might be missing a few new options that are not always needed). If it is needed to create a new config file upon upgrade, it will be announced.

Jase2 04-02-2008 11:09 AM

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up with me Marco. Oh well, it's never done me any harm.
