Pay to view VB question
I am considering purchasing VB. I want to know if VB can be modified so that registered users can upgrade themselves to paying users which would allow them to view/post in a certain section of the board. I hope that came out right. In other words I want to restrict certain portions of the board to paying members.
I also was wondering if you know about a Karma mod for VB. I searched but could not find it. Thanks. |

There is a Karma system on vBuleltin, but it is known as "reputation". |
Excellent...just to clarify, the subscription feature can be limited to only a portion of the board correct? Also does the reputation system allow users to give/take away points and can it be made that only paying members can give/take away points? Sorry for being so specific, I just want to make sure of some things before I spend the money. OH, is the payment system compatible with PayPal or other payment systems? Thanks.

Yes, you can make it so only paying members can only use the reputation system. Quote:

Thanks a bunch...you rock! Finally after days of research, I finally found the board I need! Thanks again WFZ!

OK, but that just brought up another question...Once this is set up, is it automated? I mean if a user is a simple registered user and then decides to become a paying member, will they automatically be transferred to the "paying member group"? Thanks again for all the help.
|
Yes, it should be automatic. I believe there was a thread a couple of days ago about the paid memberships not being automatically promoted. But you define all that within the ACP. :)
|
Cool.....does this feature nullify the use of any member management programs like aMember? I looked at aMember and it says its compatible with VB but is getting aMember overkill or does aMember simply replace the payment feature on VB?
|
I am not sure what aMember does, but if you just want simple promotions, I don't see any reason for purchasing an external script when vB has the functionality built in. :) And you can set up as many paid subscriptions as you want, mark them as recurring (meaning they bill every so often), and have them promote to groups. This way you can have as many hidden forums as you want. :)
|
Yeah, your right. I suppose if it gets out of control I can always buy something like aMember. Thanks for the insight and help...If I had any "reputation", I'd give you some. :) Take care.
|
Thanks. And I will. If you and when you buy your license. You can always come back for support and someone will be more than willing to help you. :)

I checked out the VB demo. I like the reputation system...but I am looking for a more specific mod that makes your users look like this under thier screen names:
Join Date: Sep 2004 Karma: 1127 Karmic Power: 16 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <------- Karma points representaion (like rep system) Has anyone seen anything like this? If allowed, I can give an example of a site that has this. |
Yes, and I believe that there is a setting within the ACP that comes default with vBulletin for the xxxx part. I am not sure if it displays it with Rep Power and stuff but with a few template modifications this can be achieved. Again, after purchasing a license, post within out programming discussions / general vBulletin forums and we will help you achieve what you want. :)

The "Karma" thing is very easy to do, and does not even involve a modification (installed modification, to be precise).
