Per-Forum Age Restrictions on Posting
Per-Forum Age Restrictions on Posting
Compatible: vB 3.5.x - 3.7.x What does this do? Like the title says, this modification will restrict users whose ages don't meet minimum requirements (set per-forum) from posting replies and creating new threads. Installation 1. Import the Product XML file. 2. Set the minimum age required for each forum through the Forum Manager in your AdminCP. Version History 1.0.0 - Initial Release to Community 1.0.1 - Consolidated plugin code; included name of forum in denial error messages This modification was written on request for Spinball. |

|
Nice. I love it.
|
thanks! you're the man today.
|
how about restriction to read forum also based on age?
|
Very good mod working nicely. I needed something like this
*installed |
small but useful :)
|
very usefull ....
p.s i think the install click key is not in function here.... on this site |
This is quite useful if you have a sports forum + bookmaker section.People underaged cannot bet so that they dont need to participate in this.Thank you.
|

This is great if you have a classifieds forum and you want to protect your traders (in a limited but responsible way) from people under 18. Since you can not enter into an enforceable contract with a minor, you're much better trading with their parents.
|
nice job Captain! :P

Block Guests from reading Entirely?
|
Nice Work...Thanks
|

One major way to make money from your forum is banners. Block visitors and you will be blocking roughly two thirds of your potential banner impressions (based on our stats of one third members two thirds guests on average). And block visitors and you are blocking spiders so the threads in that forum won't get into Google. Bad, bad idea blocking guests. |

Our site for example does not have any adult forum yet and we are still wondering whether it will have one in the future. I cannot imagine that blocking guests from such a section would have much impact on us. We would need to focus on adult content to make this happen and that is not what we intend to do. |
Won't a user be able put any DOB in their profile, then be able to access it?
Regards Jason :) |

Make their DOB non-editable so they can't change it themselves. Then when they come to access a forum for which they need to be 18, they may give you some tale that they entered the wrong DOB and ask you to change it for them. We ask them to fax over proof. |
v1.0.1 has been released. The plugin code has been consolidated and the age denial messages have been improved to reduce user confusion.

Is there away to set this up to block gender?
|
I believe there are already a few modifications that do that. But no, this modification wasn't designed to restrict each gender to a specific forum.
|
I've installed this but does not seem to work..
I set it up to not allow under 16's into a particuliar forum then set up a test account (aged 8) then tryed to access that forum and it let me ... Do I need to turn it on elsewhere or just set the age per forum? Edit: Apologises it's working althou I'd prefer it to not let the user see the forum thread content at all.. Maybe show tham the list of thread but when they click to view the thread is denies then?? This works when they try and submit a thread or reply. |
Great ..
but they can go and change their ages .. by this i will not se the real ages .. it will be a big mess . thanks anyway .. |

yeah ..
Just saw that .. ! Great work ,, and nice idea ... Installed .. can i translate it to another language .. ? |

Ahh apologises,no use to me then as what's the point when they can see all the thread content. Wanted this for an adult section where swear words are allowed Not to worry  |

I think I refrain from opening an "adult" section. Looks like it causes too many headaches, which are not worthwile if you intend to keep it small and do not want to earn a ton of money with it. |

can this be easily modified to prevent under 18's viewing specific forums?
|
This doesn't appear to be working for forums that also have a password on them.
Ie, i have a nws forum of which the password 'nws' needs to be entered to view. I added thei product, and as a guest, as long as i enter nws, i can still see it. |
I've been needing something like this, thanks. Installed.
|
Until I hear from the creator of this product, I won't release it, but there's a simple, one-word-edit to restrict under-aged people from viewing threads.
Yes, someone can still go in and change their birthday, but under-aged people can still hit "I'm Over 18" on adult sites, too. It's their responsibility to provide you with the correct information, and if they really want to, they'll change their info. I don't require people to enter their b'days at registration on one of my forums, but I still want to keep it a "family-friendly" site while at the same time provide a small space for our over-18 members to have their adult conversations, and post images that contain adult-oriented material (no porn). |
