vBFriendsBrowser 1.0.1
vBFriendsBrowser for vBulletin 3.7
---------------------------------- Created by Marius Czyz aka Phalynx. This mod will work *ONLY* with vBulletin 3.7 or higher. It will not run on vBulletin 3.6.x due to non existent feature of "friends". I don't plan to create this mod for vBulletin's 3.6.x Buddies. Description This small addition will show friends of a user in a circle-like view. The user is centered in the middle, all his confirmed friends are grouped around him. It's similar to vBulletin's own view, with the difference that all (currently max 33) friends are shown. You can click on a friend to see his friends. A click on the highlighted user brings you back to his profile. Demo http://www.insidesupcom.de/friends.php?u=1&langid=1 If there are requests regarding a social network feature I could include this. It would contain a view which would show over how many connections I know a particular guy. Installation/Upgrade This product has 1 additional file, is fully phrased and uses template hooks. No file changes or manual template edits needed. 1. Upload the file friends.php from "upload" to the root of your forum. 2. Import the main product History 1.0.0, 19th March 2008 - Initial Release 1.0.1, 11th April 2008 - Fixed a bug with custom avatar's revision (url cutted after "_") - Slightly changed visual view |
Great idea, thanks!
|
thnks.
|
Cool mod and a good idea.
A suggestion if i may. When i go to your demo, and i click the top left most user (mensi) it all displays fine, but to get back to user Phalynx, it is now the bottom left most. It should be bottom right, showing the direction of the click thru from where we come from. If that is possible. |
Would be really cool, but I have no clue how to realize that within the SQL-Logic. All other things would eat up to many performance.
|
really interesting Marius ... :)
|
I knew sooner or later someone was going to make this for 3.7. Nice job.
|
Is it necessary to have the Show all friends and browse friends...what's the difference between the two.
But a nice mod though. |
This is pretty cool. I'm going to install it right after upgrading to RC1, but I marked as installed already. ;-) Thanks!

I was looking for something like this.
But, how many friends are going to be displayed? will it put a page nav after certain amount? Looks good man  |
Currently a max of 33 friends are shown. Please let me know if this is not enough - I will created templates for more friends.
|
I think this is a great concept! Good job. One suggestion I would make is to also allow people to visit a member's friends profile when they click on a friend as well as what you have (click on the username and it takes them to their friends). Make sense?
|
Also, how is this on server load?

[QUOTE=Phalynx;1482261]Please explain more.
Thanks for the reply. I think the great thing about this mod is it shows who a member is connect to in a really cool way visually. But one problem is that when you click on the username of a memeber's friends, it brings them to that person's circle of friends. It is not that much of a problem, but I first assumed it would take me to that person's profile, not their circle of friends. I don't really have that much of a connection with a friends friend and the more you do it, the more disconnected you are from your original friend. While I think this is a great feature, I also think there should be a way to go to the profile of a friends friend in the circle instead of having to first click on their username, then click on the center of the page to go to their profile. Is that clear? |
Clear, yes. This behavior is by design. It's a friends browser. The default profile is already that way you want it: You click on a friend and get his profile.
|
Is it built for database driven attachments (avatars in this case) or will it also support the hard drive stored images (avatars)?
Because I switched from db to hard drive and the addresses look different and the mod does not display avatars properly. Mod calls for avatar images in the format avatar1_.gif when we have them in the format: avatar1_1.gif |
This is a known bug, it will be fixed in next version.
|
Thank you
|

Cant wait to see where the mod goes
i think would be great to see something similar to facebook/friendster where you can see how friends are connected to each other |
Thanks Marius
Cant wait for next release limit friends to 33 is not so good |
Hmm I installed and I seem to only have the default one still........ Did what was required. Will have to look at it later today and see whats going on!!
Where is it supposed to show up on the forum?? I can't see it anywhere. Is it in the cpanel admin options? I am running 3.7.0 Thanks |
I have 39 frineds in total but only 32 of them are seen.
Also these only 32 friends (out of 39) are seen in another page could you please check it vbulletin s?r?m 3,7,0 Demo : http://www.aleviforumlari.com/friends.php?u=1 |
Support only for people who click "Mark as Installed"
Beside that, the answer for your question is some posts above your question. |

I tried to install on 3.8.2 and it didn't instal. Said the following:
The following dependencies were not met: This product is not compatible with version 3.8.2 of vBulletin. (Compatible starting with 3.7 Alpha / Incompatible with 3.7.99 and greater) Any ideas? |
Please download again. I uploaded a 3.8 compatible version. Nothing else changed.
