Notification on new social group message

Heyho everyone!

My users like the new social groups, but often they forget about them.

So why not make a notification whenever there is a new entry in a social group i am a member of.

I think it would be great and it would boost the usage of the social groups!

I have the exact same request from members on my forum. I'd really appreciate someone having a go at this.

It's not a notification that people need, what they need are social forums instead that are displayed on the forum frontpage at the top, that way members already know what groups they're in and what new has been posted.

lunarmodule 05-06-2008 11:02 PM

^^ bump to say i'd really love this too.

Charlie98902 05-06-2008 11:20 PM

Same here as well.

KURTZ 05-12-2008 03:49 PM

bump :)

toucan42 05-14-2008 11:59 AM

This would be of great benefit to my board as well.

LorinPotter 05-14-2008 02:09 PM

I was sure hoping that the social groups would allow sending email when a message was left. As the social groups now are, they seem useless for any practical purpose.

WhaLberg 05-14-2008 02:51 PM

In another thread, I mentioned, I am coding this product.

sweede 06-11-2008 01:33 PM

Interesting enough, on line 1631 of group.php

//todo: Notification to group owner and members about new posts?

Jase2 06-11-2008 01:58 PM

Great idea! I'll look into this..

vBulletin will end up doing this; but it will be nice to have as an hack for now.

yes Sweede :)

Terrasoft 07-14-2008 09:05 AM

Just wanna bump because I think this feature is HIGHLY needed. Groups are very easily forgotten when theres nothing to remind you about them.

mikkitine 07-14-2008 04:10 PM

^ Agreed. Still eagerly anticipating this.

COUPONSAREMYGAM 07-16-2008 05:03 PM

agree as well, we need email notifications when a new message is posted in groups.

Jase2 07-19-2008 07:46 PM

I'm going to attempt to complete this sometime next week. No definite ETA.

Arrangements 07-21-2008 04:52 PM

Agreed bumb where is that mod?

mark370 07-25-2008 04:44 PM

this would be a excerlant mod for our forum too :)

Thanks for working on this "WhaLberg" and "Jase2"

widemind 07-27-2008 03:59 AM

I swear I get about 5 private messages per day from members of my forum asking about this feature. Glad to see someone's working on it! Any news or ETA from anyone?

Thanks!

paulvev 08-02-2008 12:06 PM

bump. Andy news on this feature?

Im getting hassle from my members about it too. This is going to be a popular mod when its out and working. Notification should be kept to the new 3.7 list of notifications in the welcome box as a dropdown to avoid clutter.

Skavenger 08-03-2008 01:15 AM

Damn, I never noticed this thread, I asked for the same thing here (plus new images notification)

JKatz 08-09-2008 11:48 PM

I'm here looking for it too!

DragonMasterNYC 08-10-2008 12:20 AM

I've been trying to add it to the PM notifications mods for days with no luck.

InsatiableMind 08-30-2008 03:42 AM

Our forum members are constantly requesting this too. It is definitely needed.

cirdok2 10-11-2008 08:09 PM

needed also here. Any news? Thanks! :)

jilly 11-12-2008 12:00 AM

me chiming in on it too.. this is needed!!

DieselMinded 11-12-2008 12:10 AM

/me would install

ahesard 02-13-2011 04:08 PM

up...........

Alfa1 02-14-2011 01:07 AM

This mod does already exist, but unfortunately its far from perfect. Simply because vbulletin lacks the functionality to make it work.

markoroots 07-07-2016 09:58 AM

It's really a shame that on a forum the social groups notifications still now (are years that users ask this) aren't working.

The addon that I found will show a new post when a social group message has been commented on it SocialForums for vB3.8

mokujin 07-11-2016 08:42 AM

I can do this mod, but not sure if you are using vB 3.8 or vB 4.2?

markoroots 07-18-2016 01:39 PM

Great Mokujin it will be helpfull for many people.
I'm using the 4.2 version.
Think that I had to write to each description of the group this:

CAUTION: To follow all the threads is necessary, after you made the subscription to the group, also subscribe to the group to recieve notifications, by selecting "Subscribe to this group", accessible from the link "Group Tools" on the right site of the bar containing the title of the group.

This on each group...
Before the description of the group and after this sxxx
this because nothing work there.

So you sign in in a group and for receive the notification of what succeeded in that group you have also to subscribe you manually if not you will never receive no one notice of that group.
Really clever...
Not only.... because you are also not automatically subscribed to the thread where you had posted in it. Great!

The social-group in this way are really unnecessary...

If you could make a mod the enhance all this think sure will be great and maybe will become the Mod of the Month. Really useful for a social place like a forum... otherwise the social-groups ov Vb are like always.... unusable.

Thanks Blind-Eddie but that mod is not what I was searching.
The problem are the notifications that without these a thread (or better a social-group) can't work.

There is a way to make users auto subscribe to the group when joining. Is it good huh?
