April fools!
Anyone thought of any good prank for April 1st?
Last year I used the {username} and {email}. Worked great! I found some old hacks from 2003, 2004 but I doubt they will work with newer versions of Vb. Some of the coders are pretty clever when it comes to pranks. Can you guys come up with something good for this April? |
Force Change of Timezone, add something like 23:59 hours... everybody will be messed out, thinking they missed an entire day at work.. :)

One year I opened the postbit template and added "is gay" after the username variable..
That might not be suitable for everyone though. |
Good way to freak out your entire staff, make up some hacker name and upload the html file, remove the php file, watch everyone freak, leave it that way for about 2 hours then remove the index.html file and reupload your index.php file, you will have threads about being hacked, questions all over the place. That might be pushing it but would be interesting to see how it turns out once the index.html file is removed.

I usually edit the postbit templates and just put in ridiculous "names" in place of the usernames. I also rename my forums altogether. Since I run a music site for metalheads, I change things like "General Music Discussion" to "Arguments about Korn".

I was also thinking of going for a joke regarding the {username} idea. Someone posted a hack that allows you to put {username} in the forum title. So, you could use that and then also some bbcode to change "/you" to {username} and have a pretty silly forum thing going.

For the last couple of years, I've used the word substitution feature to alter words in what I consider amusing ways.
"Beer" became "Milk of amnesia". "F**k" became "Love a duck" etc. This year, I've been in discussion with the person who runs the christmas card list. We're going to announce a April Fool's card list and ask people interested to PM her with indications of interest. Rapscallion |
One word of warning in using the word replacements...
Our site came to be because an old site suddenly disappeared that we all used to hang out on. So, for April Fools, I made a new skin to make our site look just like the old one and then I used the Word Replacement Variables to change the names of staff to the names of staff on the old site. Don't do that!!!! When someone goes to PM a person who has their username changed in that way, it goes to the changed username person (or tries to anyway). This screwed up a few PMs that were sent that day. |

Is there a hack anywhere that will put a delay on loading the homepage by any chance to make the forums look like they've crashed and then maybe a page can refresh saying april fools then refresh to normal?

I believe I tried the miserable user hack a while ago and it didn't work on my site for some reason, maybe it clashed with one of the mods....who knows. thanks though.

what you do is type
hello [you] or whatever u want and whoever reads it see`s there name there so if i read it it will say hello lasto but it can be used for nasty stuff such as I heard [you] has been saying such and such about me so then people get fired up cause they see their name there and actually think the post is directed at them when in fact its directed at everyone who reads it :) very interesting hack if used the correct way :) |

The hooks should be the same so yes, it should work fine.

I will rename it Bratitalk - The Bratislava Virtual Community, and make sure the header includes a silhouette of a bridge in Bratislava (right now it's a bridge in Budapest).
The users are gonna kill meeeee. (Hungarians and Slovakians don't really like each other...) :D:D |
