vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 6 Released

vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 6

THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE.
IT IS UNSUPPORTED.

If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, DO NOT INSTALL THIS BETA VERSION

Although we had hoped to bring you the first Release Candidate at this stage, we have added some new functionality to 3.7 and as a result, must do another beta release. This is Beta 6.

Customers running older beta versions of vBulletin 3.7.0 should upgrade as soon as possible, to ensure that any known problems are eliminated.

Social Group Moderation
Users can now create social groups with content hidden until moderation. Therefore, it seemed logical that it should be possible for those users to act as moderators for content within their own groups.

Beta 6 sees a new permission added which can allow just that.
Album Picture Moderation
It is now possible to force all images uploaded to enter the moderation queue before they are displayed to other visitors.
More Social Group Options
This functionality has been extended with new group options including:
  • Enable/disable images
  • Enable/disable messages
  • 'Users must join to see content' now completely hides content including image thumbnails
Visitor Message / Social Group Message / Picture Comment BBCode Limits
While previously these were hard-coded, administrators now have the option to define exactly which bbcode tags are available for each of the three new message types.
Visitor Message Privacy
Users can now specify that only their contacts can view and post to their visitor messages section. It is also possible for users to completely disable visitor messages on their own profile.
Minified Javascript Files
In order to minimize the download footprint of the vBulletin Javascript files, these are now distributed in 'minified' (compressed) form when a package is downloaded from the Members' Area. The uncompressed versions are still available as a download option should people want them for modification purposes etc.
Significance of a Beta Release

This is beta software. If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, do not install this beta version.

Customers should bear in mind that this is a public beta, not a certified 'stable' release so the following caveats apply:
  • Beta software is unsupported and you install beta versions at your own risk.
  • Some minor bugs remain unresolved at this time, so beta software should not be on production sites.
  • You should always back up your database fully before attempting to install beta software.
  • If you choose to install this version, you should be aware that we plan to release new beta versions in rapid succession as bugs are fixed and holes are plugged. Do not install this beta version if you are not willing or able to keep up-to-date with new releases.
  • The ImpEx import system does not support the 3.7 code yet, and will not support it until the release of 3.7.0 (stable).

give them time, it's been 30 minutes...

--------------- Added [DATE]1204905610[/DATE] at [TIME]1204905610[/TIME] ---------------

Have done the upgrade the time to let the files be uploaded to the server and click the 6 first steps and the 5 nexts... so, between 60 and 75 seconds for the upgrade.. :)

the new compressed javascript files save 200k in total... good for the bandwidth ;)

This is the first time for me upgrading a beta. I currently have Version 3.7.0 Beta 5 and want to upgrade to Beta 6.

My questions are::)

1. Do I upload the entire "upload" folder again;
2. Do I have to rechange the config.php file again.

Can some one give me direction please?

codershark 03-07-2008 02:36 PM

yes you must upload all files and change the config.php and then start the upgrade.php in installfolder

nexialys 03-07-2008 02:44 PM

the config.php is unchanged in the last version... no need to edit it.

joeycano 03-07-2008 02:45 PM

appreciate it.:D

IRANCITY 03-07-2008 04:23 PM

thank you my friends....
i wait for Vb 3.7 Stable version

Boofo 03-07-2008 04:25 PM

What did they change in the postbit and the navar? The other files I found the changes. Only 6 templates updated this time. Not bad.

nexialys 03-07-2008 04:44 PM

the template edited are not about new elements, they are actually cleaning the templates of the useless tabs and cr ... they mainly deleted 25 tabs at the end of some lines...

MrPHD 03-07-2008 04:57 PM

Installed and running. Best regards all

Boofo 03-07-2008 05:19 PM

They screwed up the WHOSONLINE template in the process. There is a "; at the top left of the page now. I reported the bug and fix for it a few minutes ago.

Posted on vbulletin.com here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=262676 but hopefully someone can answer it here Here's the post,

I submitted this as a bug, but I need help to get this fixed, any ideas? Not sure if this is part of the "forced moderation" part of the upgrading to B6 from B5.

I upgraded to Beta 6 today from VB 3.7 B5. Everything was working fine until one user posted that his images for the albums were automatically going into moderation, though not the day before. Apparently when I upgraded, it changed the registered users now had to have moderation each time they uploaded an image or comments. I had to change the following in the usergroups permissions to "yes" (the last three in usergroup under "User Album Permissions"

Quote:

Follow Picture Comment Moderation Rules

Follow Picture Moderation Rules

Follow Picture Comment Moderation Rules
Apparently the upgrade reset these to "no" forcing moderation in all my user groups including Moderators and Super Mods, basically everyone but admin. However, when I hit save, after changing them to "yes," it doesn't save and it resets to "no."

When I went to the "User Profile: Album Options" in the admin under vBulletin Options, I also noticed this message in the admin panel under,

Quote:

Picture Comments: Allowed BBCode
This setting allows you to enable and disable the use of various BB codes in picture comments.

Note that any changes you make will only affect messages posted (or edited) after this point.
To the left, of that column it states in bold letters:
Quote:

An error occurred while processing the bitfield files, the following information was returned: Bitfield Collision: commentfollowforummoderation = followforummoderation
After examining more user options, this same bitfield error message shows up under, (User Profile Options) Enabled User Profile Features, (User Profile: Album Option) Picture Comments: Allowed BBCode, (User Profile: Visitor Messaging Options) Enabled BB Codes for Visitor Messages, (Social Groups) Enabled BB Codes for Social Group Messages, (User Listing Options) Member List Field Options, (BB Code Settings) Enabled Built-in BB Codes, and (Forums Home Page Options) Active Members Options, (Thread Display Options (showthread)) Post Elements.

I want to add, there is nothing in the admin panel to tell me that I had photos to moderate and approve, under "User Albums" on the left side of the panel, you have only two options, "Album Picture Storage Type" and "Rebuild Thumbnails" so the only reason I knew the user that complained had images to moderate, was because of his post on my forum. Without that I had no clue and could not find anything that would direct me to images in cue for moderation.

There has to be something to notify me if I had this option on. I had to go to his albums and moderate the images manually instead of something in the admin panel for moderation.

I hope this helps. Thanks, Rolando.

Upgraded. I think also the URL and embed code is now available under gallery images by default, plus there's now a tag search link on the navbar.

I wish there was a way to come up with a bbcode for that. I could use something like that.

This thread is to dicuss the new release, not to get support.

For support please post in the proper section on vBulletin.com.

UPGRADE QUESTION:

i had used impex to transfer a mybb board to the latest stable vb (3.6.8) in january (3.7 beta 5 was out)

if i upgrad to this new beta release from 3.6.8, would there be issues with the previous imported items, since impex isnt currently compatible with the betas?

BatMNet 03-11-2008 04:03 AM

Visitor Messaging seems to have disappeared on my site.. All the settings seem to be on

I entered an Akismet API number and set the threshold to 99999 but when I post what should be seen as obvious spam, it is not blocked.

Is the anti-spam feature working in 3.7? I have 3.7 beta 5 installed.
