iPhone / iPod Touch Optimized Skin

If you use my style, please click "Mark as Installed" in the Mod Information box -->

I made this Skin based on www.elforro.com colors and it has hardcoded CSS; so you would need to change some CSS values to match your forum style.

Many people ask me to share the style, so I did my best to make it as "default" as I could.

I spent a lot of time working on this skin, so if you decide to use it on your forums, PLEASE leave the "Design by:" legend. (it's only at the bottom)

Demo: http://www.elforro.com/index.php?styleid=15

( or go to www.elforro.com from your iPod / iPhone and click on the legend for the Optimized Skin )

-------
To show a message to all your iPod / iPhone users, you just need to add something like this in your navbar template (in your default style)

PHP Code:

<script type="text/javascript">
    if ((
navigator.userAgent.indexOf('iPhone') != -1) ||
    (
navigator.userAgent.indexOf('iPod') != -1)) {

document.write("<a href=\"$_SERVER[PHP_SELF]?<if condition="$_SERVER['QUERY_STRING']">$_SERVER[QUERY_STRING]&amp;</if>styleid=[B]XX[/B]\">iPhone Style</a>")
    }
</
script

(Change XX to your iPhone style number and write whatever you want instead of "iPhone Stlye")
--------

Screenshots: (Below the post)

You have to upload (and change the color/hue maybe) 4 PNG images in images/misc/ folder (included in the ZIP).

Please keep all of my copyright info in this style. Please do NOT redistibute this style on any other sites! (It's free!)

very nice

slmoney 03-03-2008 04:45 AM

is this supposed to be a WAP style?

KoSoVaR 03-03-2008 07:30 AM

Alright ElForro - sweet. I tried to make something like this but my theme got bashed down because of the "Mobi" developer not liking that I partially based it off of his.

My inspiration was your site - AMAZING work and thanks for publishing.

I would love to donate - if you want to put a donate button or something like that :)

ElForro 03-03-2008 10:40 AM

slmoney, it's supposed to be an iPhone Style...

Kosovar, thanks.. If you want, I've updated the Mod with my Paypal :)

KoSoVaR 03-03-2008 06:21 PM

I enoyed, you enjoy now.

Thanks so much, donated!

I have been waiting for this! Thanks so much ElForro! I'll send you a nice donation (not a lousy 5 dollar) once installed and configured! You may keep me to that promise :)

[edit]Donation sent! Hope you will buy yourself a nice gift after your hard work on this skin![/edit]

ElForro 03-03-2008 11:56 PM

xixxon, that is what you will see if you see the iPhone skin in Safari... Go to www.elforro.com from your iPod/iPhone and you'll see the skin like shown in the screenshots..

Thanks djr! I hope you can tweak the CSS colors and stuff... Please leave your URL (or PM to me) if you're using this Skin, I would love to see it with other colors and modifications...

Dr. Bantham 03-04-2008 12:53 AM

Wow! This is very nice. I do have a question, however. I allow large avatars at my site (150px width x 200px height). This is problematic for the iPhone pixel limitations. An image re-sizer routine for avatars would be ideal. Could this be integrated?

ElForro 03-04-2008 01:04 AM

Dr. Bantham... I've decided not to show avatars in the 'Showthread' template... This will help to load faster (a thread page with 10 replyies -and a lot of text- is about only 30kb of html)... However, you can see the avatars in the Profile Page of each user...

ALL images on ALL pages of your forum -while using this template- are resized (in fact is a "max-width" limited to 235px) with CSS, so there's no problem with that... If an image is under 235px width, will remain as it is; if it is larger than 235px -in widht, height doesn't matter- it will be downsized to 235.

You can check it here:

First enter the Theme: http://www.elforro.com/index.php?styleid=15

Then go to this thread with photos: http://www.elforro.com/galeria-de-tr...a-barbara.html

Going away from the postbit legacy layout would allow for a better avatar fit, but if bandwidth reduction is a concern, I understand. I would still suggest the standard postbit mode (visible here on vBulletin). It would allow clarity of member information as row content without it competing as a column with the post content.

ElForro 03-04-2008 01:34 AM

The postbit I've used is the postbit legacy... The only thing is that it only displays the Username... It doesn't show the avatar, or the Joindate, etc... You can see that the showthread is like this ( https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachmen...6&d=1204518212 ):

-------------------
Date of the post
Username
Post
-------------------

With 3 rows...

I've decided not to show the avatars because with an average of 50kb per avatar, it's a lot of KBs to download and I prefer to keep the threads as clean as possible, in order to guarantee a better experience while reading the posts content...

Anyway, you can change the template and add the Avatar to see how it looks...

GetGamer.com 03-04-2008 02:09 AM

Fantastic skin! Thanks for releasing this!

dartho 03-04-2008 02:44 AM

This is a great style, ElForro!

One suggestion for people who use the Legacy postbit is to copy entire contents of the postbit template and overwrite the postbit_legacy template within this style.

GetGamer.com 03-04-2008 02:17 PM

I'm using this style with the Mobile Device Detection mod and it works great.
There are some localization issues with the template modifications. I noticed that some of the labels are in Spanish, so it appears they have been hardcoded. Not a big deal to change, but something to be aware of.

Dr. Bantham 03-04-2008 09:37 PM

I am thoroughly enjoying this style. I do have two issues, however:

The first is the fact that I use vBadvanced CMPS as my index. Even though I use a two column approach in lieu of three, it still does not conform well in this environment. Could this style be modified to better accommodate vBa forums? If not, is there a manner by which the page could skip the vBa portal page and go to the forum index? Could the Mobile Device Style Assignment mod allow for this?

The second concern I have is that there is no menu system. The functionality appears to be limited to forums, private messaging and member pages. While I understand that other content might not be ideal for this environment, the need for a menu system of some nature is important to me. This would be a wonderful addition to this style.

Again, thanks for the great work thus far!

ElForro 03-04-2008 09:49 PM

There are a lot of options that are not available yet in this Skin. That is because its supposed to be a light skin, just for read and reply threads in the forum... I think that if you want to change some settings to your forum account, you can do it while using a PC and while using an iPhone just read, search or reply messages...

However, if you know how to edit the templates you need, there is no problem in doing it... About the vBadvanced, I don't know how it would work because I don't use it, and I can't offer too much support for other addons that I don't use.

Understood.

I do have another issue which just came to mind. Is the lack of vBulletin acknowledgment in the footer a violation of our Terms of Service?

ElForro 03-04-2008 10:08 PM

Dr. Bantham, you're right. I don't have the Copyright legend because I've paid for it's removal. I forgot to include it on this skin.

I will try to add it now and replace the ZIP with the modified skin.

Edit: DONE! Please download the iphoneskin.zip again OR add this lines to your footer template:

PHP Code:

<!-- Do not remove this copyright notice -->

$vbphrase[powered_by_vbulletin]
    <!-- Do
not remove this copyright notice -->

dartho 03-04-2008 10:13 PM

Edit the adv_portal template in this style and replace it with a link or a redirect to your forums page..

Good idea. However, I have already started on a custom vBa page which is limited to a single column. This will allow for news and recent thread blocks. Ideally, it would be great to have it auto-detect and revert to this page for the custom portal layout. Otherwise, I suppose I could provide a link or button for switching.

ElForro 03-05-2008 01:34 AM

It's on the CSS... Look for "img"

djr 03-05-2008 08:43 AM

For people wanting to give their user the "New posts since last visit" option, here's a template fix:

1. Open template navbar for the iPhone skin
2. Find:
PHP Code:

<li><phrase 1="$pmbox[lastvisitdate]2="$pmbox[lastvisittime]">$vbphrase[last_visited_x_at_y]</phrase></li

3. Add after:
PHP Code:

<if condition="$show['searchbuttons']"><li class="link"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getnew">$vbphrase[new_posts_nav]</a></li></if>

very nice

HenrikL 03-05-2008 12:56 PM

Nice template!

I just installed it and made some needed mods to remove some spanish stuff ;-)

http://forumet.kent.nu/?styleid=5

Will donate now!

HenrikL 03-07-2008 08:34 AM

Can someone please help me and tell me in what template I must change stuff if I want the font to be smaller on the showthread.php page. I was hoping it was the postbit template, but I can't get it to work.

Oh, stupid me, it was the postbit_legacy. Sorry.

Big Boss 03-08-2008 07:05 PM

Looks really good so well done on that! ;)

mikkitine 03-10-2008 03:09 AM

I understand that this style is for 3.7 but it partially works on 3.6.8 PL 2. However, the four .png images don't ever show up on the skin(only the regular vBulletin statusicon images). Does anybody know of a way to get this to work better on 3.6.8 PL 2?

ElForro 03-10-2008 03:21 AM

The four PNG are for the header and footer menu (Log out, Search, Home, etc)... There are not replacements for any vBulletin image...

How about the icons that appear next to the forum names/forum descriptions? You see, my skin appears just like this. As you can see the vbulletin icons appear next to the forum names/forum descriptions. I want it to appear like yours. Do I simply have to switch the images around for this to work?

dartho 03-10-2008 11:02 AM

@mikkitine - it doesn't look like you have actually uploaded the images to teh correct place on your forum - for example - http://forumet.kent.nu/images/misc/iPhoneToolbar.png does not exist on your server.

mikkitine 03-10-2008 01:01 PM

Na~...they have been uploaded to the server and they exist in the "images/misc" folder so that can't be the problem.

ElForro 03-10-2008 03:28 PM

Yes, but the 4 PNGs are not that images. If not they would have to be named "forum_new.gif" and "forum_old.gif"

If you want to use my images, replace that GIF with this:

http://www.elforro.com/images/statusicon/forum_old.gif
http://www.elforro.com/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif

nicolerork 03-12-2008 04:08 PM

Awesome style. One question though, it seems to be in Spanish. Is there any way to change that?

ElForro 03-12-2008 04:26 PM

If there's some spanish word in the templates, just Search for them from the AdminCP and you cand edit that Template changing that word... If you find any word, please let me know so I can edit the Skin myself and re-upload it.
