No, the PS3 uses Blu-Ray.

Personally I have not had a reason to buy any HD movies yet. I was waiting on this format war to end first (and was rooting for HD-DVD only because it wasn't controlled by one company).

Considering I can't buy blank dual layer DVDs at a responsible price I doubt I'll be buying any blank Blu-Ray media any time soon. Personally I've moved on to just buying extra HDDs for back-up purposes.

Blu-Ray isn't controlled by one company (the one you are referring to is Sony). Sony may have well invented most of the format, but it is not controlled by them. The format is controlled by the BDA (Blu-Ray Disc Association). A list of members can be found here.

Don't you remember how the video formats had their own war in the beginning? Video2000, BetaMax & VHS.

Been waiting as well. Looks like I'll be buying a PS3 soon though. If I can get a Blu-Ray player for $500 or a Blu-Ray player that also plays video games for $500.

I've just purchased a sony bravia (SONY KDL46D3500) 1080p and a ps3 and for the love of trying blu ray movies look terribly grainy. I understand the bravia/ps3 have to be callobrated (more the bravia) but at the moment blu ray for me is looking awful.

My brothers samsung (without tinkering with any settings whatsoever) using the hdmi cable playing blu ray via the ps3 looks great it's almost heartbreaking that you need to go to so much effort to get a great picture using sony products (mainly the bravia lcds) which I'm growing to hate.

My husband recently purchased cod4 but he's finding the control system tricky (he's a keyboard and mouse person :)

I'm holding off for the Blu-Ray replacement :)

You can't even compare dvd to blu ray running at it's full resolution. Course they work as good as each other, why wouldn't they? That's not why people go out and buy hd televisions to play these hd formats on. :rolleyes:
