Block AOL's Anonymous Proxies (proxy.aol.com)

This addon has been withdrawn.

SEOvB 02-15-2008 11:26 PM

Genius! And providing a link from something like google to download that firefox browser could also make you some money :)

Nice hack

FleaBag 02-16-2008 11:40 AM

jeddahbikers 02-16-2008 11:47 AM

See mod description.

-=Leb=- 02-19-2008 05:57 PM

I believe the block proxies preventing members from using fake ips.
BTW, already INSTALLED :D and excellent job

nyunyu 02-19-2008 06:38 PM

Even if aol proxies are blocked, there is still plenty of web proxies out there which can be used for creating an account (duplicate maybe).

peterle1 02-19-2008 10:15 PM

Where do I have to look to enable/disable this mod or isn't there any?

peterle1 02-20-2008 05:27 AM

Any way to edit the message in your xml?
Kxml and other editors don't like to open it, because they find an error.

smooth-c 02-20-2008 11:53 AM

Does this work in 3.7? Thanks.

True. But this mod wasn't designed to block all proxies, or even all open proxies.
It was just designed to block AOL users from using the anonymous proxies provided by AOL.

If you want to block ALL proxies, then you need another mod...
Perhaps these mods could help you...
* Check proxy RBL on new user registration
* DNSBL/Open Proxy-Blocking
* Proxy to Real IP Conversion
* Web Proxy Redirector

Just uninstall, or disable the plugin named "Block AOL Proxy Use" via the plugin manager.

I did not include an admincp setting for it, as it is so simple it doesn't really need one.

I have no idea what Kxml is. However, it opens fine in notepad, Wordpad, etc.
If you're using Linux, try using a conversion tool.

Alternatively, if you just want the source, send me a PM and I'll send it to you as a PM.

I have no idea, because I don't run 3.7.
However, I see no reason why it shouldn't. It doesn't use any complicated functions.
Give it a try and see if it works. If it does, I'll update the file to make it officially compatible.

peterle1 02-20-2008 09:06 PM

Thanks for the answer.
Kxml is an XML editor for KDE and it won't open with an error.
All other editors tell me, this is a binary and it will be corrupt, if it is saved.

It works really great!
Could be too good for me, because my members are older they will have a lot of problems with thsi mod.

MeMySelfNi 02-22-2008 03:53 AM

this didnt affect the aol members that come to my site cause they are still using AOL???

MalebolgiaHR 02-26-2008 01:45 AM

Is it compatible with 3.6.4?

b6gm6n 02-27-2008 01:07 AM

doesn't work with 3.7

AOL members who don't use AOL's anonymous proxies will be unaffected by this mod.

AOL members who don't use AOL's browser or IE will often bypass the proxies entirely.

This is intended! This is what encourages them to stop using proxies and start using their real IPs.

If anyone lets me know the modifications required to make it 3.7 compatible, I will update it.
Presently however I have no plans to develop a 3.7 version myself as I don't use 3.7.

Running 3.6.8 patch 2

Had this product fromt the start, no issues.

This has been slowing down our site the past two to three days. Disabled.

Ack! Sorry, that is my fault. Unnecessary DNS lookups!

Version two of this product (released today!) fixes this issue.

Thx alot for the excellent script <3

Thanks, Will give it a go again.

Removed the 'Beta' tag, as this has been in use for over a month with no unresolved issues.

BadgerDog 04-01-2008 11:35 PM

Uninstalled...

Sorry, didn't realize that it was incompatible with v3.67pl1 .... :)

We run a lot of mods that are 3.68 and they usually work fine ...

Regards,
Badger

Unfortunately, I don't use 3.6.7p1, so I'm unaware of the differences between it and 3.6.8.
I would make it 3.6.7p1-compatible if I could. If you find out why it doesn't work with that older, unsupported version of vB, let me know. I might well look into making a 3.6.7p1-compatible version for you. If you adapt the code yourself to make it so compatible, please send me the modified code so I can make the official release so compatible.

peterle1 05-02-2008 08:47 PM

Any way to test it on 3.7?

sexgosex 02-16-2009 06:42 AM

kylek 10-17-2009 02:34 AM

Anyone try this on 3.8 yet? I would try it but dont know anyone with an AOL account to try it out.
